Started in Barcelona, short train rides to Girona, Nimes, Toulouse, Foix, Carcassone, then back to Barcelona. The only disappointment was Nimes. Besides Les Arenas, which can be seen in an hour, there wasn't much else going on. The rest was fantastic. For a medieval buff the castles of Foix and Carcassonne were truly awesome. Late September was the perfect time to go: Great weather, with hardly any other tourists.
Most pictures we took don't even have other people in them.
Spain in general was a lot of fun with Girona providing a great small town experience contrasted by the bustling Barcelona. We loved eating Tapas late and enjoying cheap regional wine. Eating in France was a bit more expensive, but we thoroughly enjoyed the regional fare, especially Cassoulet.
The whole region, Catalonia, is connected and the shared history of the different places really added a deeper meaning to our trip. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
