“From Llança with love !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

If you can spend some time (and money) in the Llança area, please, have a seat there. Embrace the landscape, order some tapas and the classic oven fish with potato and tomatoes, a bottle of Spanish wine at extremely reasonable price (brut nature cava, I suggest) and spend what can be the meilleur souvenir from the costa brava.

“unique view and excellent cuisine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2011

During our lovely trip to Spain, my family and I spent a couple of days in the small town of Llanca, located on the coast between the Cap de Creus and the French border, visiting some friends. Llanca itself is quite small and rather quiet when there are no events going on, but it is a great place for those who seek to just relax, lay back, and listen to the wind and waves! Our friends recommended a restaurant to us, Restaurant Garbet, saying we'd absolutely love it, and we did, it was the highlight of our trip!Located right next to the beach, overlooking a magnificent view into the bay, you were able to just sit down enjoy the warm ambience of the restaurant while still feeling as though you were sitting in the centre of nature's purest form of beauty. The whole restaurant is open and the floor consists of small pebbles! We went there for lunch and it couldn't have been a better day. We took an aperitif drink under one of the small umbrella tables out of wood. It was a beautiful change to not have plastic for once. Mind you, Garbet is an elegant restaurant with tables mantled in white, waiters in proper uniform and decorations consisting of exquisite objects. However they were able to create a perfect balance; modern yet at the same time being a part of nature. After our drinks we headed to our table, there we were welcomed by the waiter. The service was first class indeed! Considering we were right next to the sea, we decided to try the seafood. In all truthfulness, it was the best seafood I've had so far, and I've had plenty! You could taste the freshness of it, and it was nice to not have it smothered in a heavy sauce because it gave you the opportunity to really 'taste' it. It was absolutely beautiful. The desserts were excellent as well, colourful, fresh and looked as though it came out of a magazine! Of course any who goes to Garbet will see that the prices are quite a bit higher than in other places, but it is definitely worth it. The food you get is of top quality! And let's face it, you don't just pay for the food, you pay for everything, the first class service they give you, the lovely warm ambience they provide, and the magnificent view. It all comes together. It may not be a restaurant you would go to everyday, but that makes it just a little more special than other places, because everytime you go there you feel as though you are treating yourself to something beautiful. Plus, you can always just go there to take a drink on their umbrella tables! We came back another night for a drink. At day you can enjoy the beautiful view of the bay, but at night it's just magical. Everything is illuminated with warm lights.
In conclusion, it is definitely a place worth going to. It is unique and beautiful in all forms!

“Pricey, but very special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2011

Around nine years ago we (my wife +our two friends & travelling companions) had stopped at Restaurant Garbet and sitting under their sunshades had enjoyed drinks alongside the peaceful bay. We vowed back then that one day we would return to lunch or dine in the restaurant proper. In fact we've visited the Costa Brava's Emporda Baix region many times since, but this time we actually made it back to Colera and the Garbet. Apart from the enticing menu and the restaurant's location, all those years ago, what made it memorable was the waiter who took our drinks order; a Spanish Jeeves character, very stiff and proper, dressed in tails, high collar and black bow tie – and the restaurant's loos – yep, their loos. These featured marble sinks and gilt faucets with various artfully lit objets d'intérêt secreted in corners. There was even a tank of goldfish perched on the water closet's cistern! Well, hardly anything had changed. The menu was still pretty pricy, especially for what you seem to get, which never appears very much to me (but I'm tending to be a bit cranky over such things now). Anyway, we four settled down to a long lazy lunch. Starters were all around the €20 - €25 mark. I had a delightful plate of (five, small) whole squid, cooked simply with oil & lemon, all arranged in size with a tiny purple octopus popped inside each one - aah! Our main courses were around €40 a head (and not the most expensive by far) Three of us had turbot from a sizeable whole fish, while our fourth had bass - 2 fillets; all of which was perfect, served atop of a good portion of sliced, oven baked potatoes. Desserts, between €12 - €.25 a go, were splendid creations ranging from simple fresh ice creams to figs in liqueur topped with fruits in an ornate sugar work basket , to millefeuille pastries crammed with fresh exotic fruits and cream. Wine was pricey but excellent; if the rapturous rolling of my chums' eyes by was anything to go by (I don't indulge, so I can’t comment directly.) The bill for four was over €380 (which pricewise is heading for higher ground) Mind you eating here, or anywhere in Spain, can be cheaper if you opt for the local fashion and share dishes, or just go for a course or two; but heck we were on holiday. In fact we were the only Brits in the place and such was our rarity the owner & maitresse d' - a charming lady who spoke reasonable English - asked how we had discovered her restaurant. She was delighted at our story i.e.: coming across it it years ago, and returning, while she remembered the Jeeves character, who has since retired, quite fondly.
In short The Restaurant Garbet is highly recommended and deserves seeking out. Both food and table service is absolutely first rate; but be prepared to part with more than a few Euros for the experience. Incidentally they also cater for vegetarians, vegans and, I believe, coeliacs too, which must put them in a special league of their own.
Go there.
