“Ideal stop-over in central Spain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2009

We stopped in Segovia for 2 nights on our way from the Costa Blanca to Bilbao. Segovia was an ideal choice, beautiful medieval town and the choice of the Hotel San Real was a very good one. Located just at the very start of the famous aquaduct (at this stage looks just like a wall!) a short walk from the main bars and restraunts. A good 4* hotel, we stayed in the central quadrangle - traditional style rooms but all recently refurbished. Free WiFi throughout.

For some odd reason, I wasn't expecting very much from this hotel. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The location is terrific, especially if you're driving. Lots of free parking either under shade structures or underground (drivers' choice.) The breakfast (mine was included) was terrific, with a big selection of very appetizing offerings, including big plates of the very expensive jamon and cured pork loin that were constantly being refilled. Nothing cheap here. There's an excellent restaurant and bar. The hotel is extremely easy to find by car. It's right at the beginning of the aquaduct, and it's an easy walk to the center of the old city. If you prefer, the city bus stops very frequently right by the front door. The front desk personnel were extremely eager to provide any service they could. I can't say enough about how pleasant and helpful they were, and their english is much better than in most Spanish hotels I stayed in. The room was fantastic with a high-tech shower that I'd love to have at home. This hotel is not part of a chain, and it really shows. They even sell bottles of the terrific, Spanish, extra-virgin olive oil that they provide at breakfast at a bargain price. All-in-all, this is everything a hotel should be. Furthermore, the price is right.

We stayed at the San Antonio el Real for one night of our eight nights in Spain. The hotel has a nice ambiance and friendly staff. The room was small with only a small window looking out to nothing, but nicely decorated and the bathroom was clean with a good shower, etc. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is right at the start of the aquaduct, so it is an interesting and short walk to the old town. The rates are very reasonable and included breakfast. We had wine and a cheese plate in the lounge, which also had a nice ambiance to it. This is a perfect hotel for a quick stopover in Segovia.

So aside from the terrific breakfast, I'm scratching my head over why this hotel is so highly rated on Trip Advisor. We were unaware that it has a new wing with American-style generic rooms (not pictured on this website) and very disappointed when we were given a room there. Also, the room had no view to speak of. To be sure, the room was immaculate and quiet, the service was friendly and the breakfast amazing, but given the charm of Segovia and what we were hoping would be a romantic time there, we felt we'd have rather stayed within the city walls in a more historic and character-filled hotel which would have been less expensive as well.

This hotel is not especially memorable, but it was very convenient to historic Segovia without being in a busy, noisy section. It was clean, the breakfast good and filling. The staff were very helpful. It satisfied all our needs. It was the smokiest of nine hotels we stayed in. The price was a little high compared to our other eight accommodations.

Stayed here for 2 nights in the beautiful and fascinating city of Segovia during June this year.Would stay again in a heartbeat!

It`s a genuine 4* hotel with all you`d expect of that standard. It`s about half a mile walk to the heart of the old city and the cool thing is that the famous aqueduct begins about 50 yards from the entrance to the hotel so you can just follow it along and there you are!Word of warning though--at this end, which is where the aqueduct starts above ground it just looks like a wall so get the hotel to point you in the right direction or you could follow another wall the wrong way and end up in Madrid!

Check-in and check-out were efficient.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

The room was a good size with a double bed though the view wasn`t up to much from our room. However we found the room on a late rooms internet site for £55 per night including breakfast so that was a fabulous price and a view wasn`t really what we were bothered about.

The bathroom was a decent size with a bath, and towels and toiletries were plentiful. It was all spotlessly clean

There was a TV with 2 English speaking news channels,a mini-bar,room safe and AC..Each room has internet access.

There is a small but adequate fitness centre.

The parking is in the gounds of the hotel and included in the price.

Breakfast was excellent,a big range of food, buffet style, with fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, bacon, eggs, sausages etc.Absolutely no complaints and it tasted good.Plenty of fresh juice and tea and coffee.

The restaurant in the hotel is simply a superb standard of food and service. We ate there both nights because the meal on the first night was so good and we weren`t disappointed. second time.It stands alongside many top class restaurants around Spain.

There is a bar and comfortable lounge area and there is a courtyard off the bar which is part of what seems to be an old monastery and is lovely to sit in with a cool drink at the end of a day of site-seeing.

Overall the hotel was terrific.I`d tell my best friend to stay there(actually she did--with me!) but seriously,it`s a place you just can`t go wrong.

We spent two nights here earlier this month and were very happy with the hotel. It is located onthe edge of the tourist area so a slightly long walk to the centre of the town - which might be a problem if you wanted to use the restaurants etc there - , but that does mean that you get good parking and a quiet location. We had no regrets on that score, especially as the hotel restaurant proved so good both for breakfast and for dinner, with helpful staff and interesting and comfortable decor. A converted monastery it still has its cloisters - with very nice tables for a drink - and the whole building has a pleasant and interesting atmosphere. We were glad we had chosen it.
