“Historic hotel, on the edge of the old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

A delightful hotel, using parts of an old monastery. Comfortable rooms, good service, lovely atmosphere. Charming and quiet. There is a good bar and lounge area, which opens onto the central courtyard.

Not all the rooms face onto the courtyard area that you see on the photos. We were originally placed down a side corridor, but asked to be moved if possible, and the hotel was very happy to oblige us without fuss.

The only downside is that the hotel is at the very edge of the old town (if not slightly outside it) on a relatively busy intersection (though completely sheltered from the car traffic by the monastery walls), so you need to walk nearly 10 mins to get to the main historic part. This initially disappointed us, however it is a very pleasant walk (once you cross the intersection) right along the length of the Roman aqueduct, so there is always something nice to look at an appreciate. Also, as we had a car, this slightly-less-central spot worked well, as there was ample parking within the walls of the hotel grounds. The charm and beauty of the hotel (and the parking convenience) more than made up for being a little less central than we had originally wanted.

Breakfast was included, and was fine. Nothing special!

The hotel has a restaurant which we ate at one night, which was excellent. We enjoyed their suckling pig, which is a must for any visitor to Segovia.

All in all, a flawless visit. However, if you really want to be in the very centre of the historic town, you may need to consider a different hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room off the courtyard, for added charm.

After three noisy nights in Madrid we found our stay at the San Antonio Real to be peaceful and relaxing. This was my second stay here. A major appeal for this property is the easy parking. The tradeoff is that you must walk 10-15 minutes to reach the town center. Or you could use a taxi. Anyway, driving in the center of Segovia is only for locals or the fool hearty. Our beds were comfy and the breakfast was very good. We could have use better lighting for reading and the room temperature adjustments were a bit finicky but the service was terrific. Segovia is a great place to visit and I would choose the San Antonio el Real should I return.

We stayed at this hotel on route to Almeria Region after our 24 hour boat crossing to Santander. It was a lovely clean hotel and the rooms were of a high standard. The actual hotel was close to the aqueduct which made wonderful walk first thing in the morning before our long drive through Spain. Our room was very modern with plenty of towels, soap, gels etc.... Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was help oneself and not bad. I would definitely stay here again if we had to drive through.

The not so central location of this hotel is rewarded with a pleasant 10 minute walk alongside the magnificent aqueduct to the main square at the entrance to the old town. Rooms are perfectly adequate, a little small and somewhat simply furnished but clean, bathrooms have plenty of towels and amenities. Public spaces are limited; a pleasant bar area, restaurant and breakfast room. The outdoor courtyard looked very nice but was not in use during my winter stay. Excellent choice at breakfast and buffet constantly replenished. The staff are helpful, courteous and hard working, if not overworked. Only ever one person on reception and one person on duty at breakfast and in the bar, which when the hotel was busy was definately not enough and service did suffer as a result. All in all, good value for money and a perfectly acceptable place to stay for the price.

We stayed here for one night between Madrid and La Rioja. The hotel itself is in a good location for 10 minute walk access to the main plaza. The staff is pleasant and speak English well if that is important to you. We found the room to be adequate yet dated. Nothing wrong with the room or the hotel, just not a place you'd be dying to spend more time in your room. The breakfast on the other hand, was a pleasant (and included in the price) surprise! Highly recommend eating breakfast in!

Considering that Segovia is NOT the most touristic spot, none of us are really expecting an amazing hotel! Though i dont think someone elses hair in the bathroom is acceptable!
The floors are cold and the furniture simply looks old though it is good quality!
The elevator is hidden and confusing to find.
I must admitt the people were friendly and helpful.
The view outside the rooms is beautiful but not inside which might be more important!! And the lighting through the hotel is bad... (It all seems a little dark).

by the pictures of the beautiful building. It is lovely but our room was small, no storage space and so dim we could not read. On arrival the only outside space, a lovely courtyard was out of bounds due to a pre-booked party. Same thing on our last night. We were so disappointed we did complain to reception but got the inevitable shrug of the shoulders. Breakfast was quite good. The hotel is also quite a walk into the centre, coming back is up hill so not suitable for the less energetic!
