Hotel Rector is something else. There are in Salamanca a bunch of new top-end hotels: but they are showy and lack of personality. Quietly, through the years, Hotel Rector has built a solid reputation among those who actually know what real luxury is: silence, care, prime quality materials... and common sense. I spent there three days and I still miss the room they gave me! (number 17).

Everything about the Hotel Rector is stellar: prime location just near the Roman bridge; incredibly helpful (English-speaking) staff who will attend to all your needs, including taking up your luggage from the parking lot; spacious room with sublime turn-down service; marble bathroom with powerful shower, cushy bathrobes, and Bulgari amenities; and lots of public spaces to relax after you come back from exploring Salamanca. The hotel is on the perimeter of the old town, but you just walk across the street and up a small hill to take in the full beauty of the sandstone cathedrals and university buildings. The city was teeming with more tourists than any other part of Spain we visited on this trip, so it was quite a treat to be embraced by the serenity and calm of Hotel Rector after a vigorous day of cathedral hopping and cerveza drinking.

My husband and I stayed in the Hotel Rector Salamanca for one night on Sunday 1st July on our way home to Scotland after touring Spain and France. We had not pre booked but had seen good reviews about the hotel. The hotel is lovely it has a wonder old feeling with beautiful marble yet it is light and airy.The young lady at the reception was so helpful, she could not do enough for us with information about Salamanca and also helping us with restaurants as my husband is vegetarian, she even phoned to one nearby to see if it was open. Our room was lovely it was so clean and comfortable, with bathrobes and slippers and some nice added touches. Breakfast was excellent and although the hotel is fairly expensive we would love to go back and definately stay there again. The location could not be better just over the road from the cathedrals.

Everything about this hotel is first rate: staff, spacious rooms, gorgeous all-marble bathroom, slippers, robes, and AC. The staff could not have been more accomodating. The duty person came down to the parking lot and helped us unload our car and put baggage in the elevator. There were many comfortable public areas to sit and chat and the free public computer was very fast and new. The Rector is expensive but definitely was worth it. It is a 10 minute walk to the Plaza Mayor and the university. The Art Nouveau/Deco museum is definitely worth a visit.
My only criticism is that the room carpeting was stained and needed either replacement or cleanng. I'd go with hard wood floors if it were my call.
Salamanca is a wonderful city!
