“Spectacular!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

We enjoyed every moment in this lovely restaurant - a view over the convent, super friendly efficient staff, excellent wine list (quality and prices). The food was just amazing - course after course we thought was incredible - and not just by any measure - it absolutely lived up to its Michelin star. The bill was an excellent pleasant surprise after all the delicious food and drink. We are tempted to come back to Salamanca just so that we can eat here again :)

“Arzak, but at half the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We have been several times to places like Arzak and Mugaritz in San Sebastian. Unforgettable experiences. But a 17 course lunch is € 165. Worth every cent, but now we discovered Peruvian masterchef Victor Gutierrez in beautiful Salamanca. Believing we would not arrive before 5 PM we had booked a table for dinner. But as we arrived at 1.30 we asked the friendly people at Hotel Rector to see if we could come at once. We choose the €38 tasting menu, 5 starters, 1 fish, 1 meat and 1 dessert. It was delicious. Accompanied by a bottle of Belondrade y Lurton, our favorite Spanish white wine. The producer asked € 22 last time I checked, at Victor it was a modest € 32,50. We were so impressed that we decided to come back for dinner and at 9.30 PM sat down for an other feast. Now we had the € 55 tasting menu, with extra starters and 2 desserts. And all dishes different from what we had for lunch. We were so happy with this find that we came back 4 days later (after a short trip to Portugal), again for lunch ánd dinner. This time we asked them to serve us the € 79 tasting menu, half for lunch and the other half for dinner.
Again totally different dishes from the first time. So yes, we paid € 172 pp for 4 delicious meals'
See my pictures for some of the dishes you can expect. We will be back, that is for sure

“a delightful dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We lunched on a Thursday afternoon with no reservation. It was good timing as the next 3 days were completely booked for both lunch and dinner. It is a small, elegant restaurant with excellent service, an accomadating staff who weren't intrusive but answered every question knowledgeably when asked about a food item or beverage. We had the 60+Eur menu and were delighted with the variety of seafood and vegetables (we had just spent 2 weeks in Avila and missed both fish and vegetables. The different flavors were delightful. And we were pleasantly satisfied at the end of the meal. Would definitely return.

“Unforgettable Symphony of Flavour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We recently had a wonderful dinner at Victor Gutierrez, selecting the Victor Gutierrez tasting menu.

It is a meal we won't ever forget. From the beginning to the finish the flavours just kept coming. Particularly fabulous were the garden vegetable "soup" , the scallop ceviche, the smoked trout, the sushi, the hake and the duck courses. A couple of the dishes had a heat from spices. All in all a meal of the best food presented in a beautiful way, accompanied by attentive and friendly service.

Oh, and arable by the window looking onto the street and the San Esteban monastery gave us a passing parade of vignettes of Salamantine life.

“Memorable .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

We went to this restaurant for a special celebration and were not disappointed. The decor is minimal but the staffs attitude brought warmth to what is a very understated room . We had the tasting menu for 55 Euros which we thought very reasonable given prices for the equivalent in the U.K.There was a comprehensive wine list and advice from staff was good and was certainly not aimed at flogging the more expensive wines . The food was excellent and service impeccable , without any stuffiness.
