“Impressive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

First off all the outside of this building is so impressive and beautiful. Very ornate. The inside also doesn't disappoint although the audioguide sometimes goes into way too much detail and I got bored around half way through and skipped a few sections. Also bring a jacket as the inside of the cathedral is freezing.

“Wow”

Over the top Gothic...The array of artistic renderings of religious art was wonderful. The audio guide however, was a bit overwhelming in it's detail.

“Resting place of El Cid”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

In the centre of old Burgos stands a beautiful gothic style Cathedral. There are three different entrance fees, €7, €3.50 for pilgrims or peregrinos on the Camino de Santiago or free at certain times. Whatever you pay it is well worth a visit. The architecture, art and beauty of the place is fantastic. As you enter you can pick up audio equipment to guide you around or you can just choose to wander and discover. One thing to remember as you move around is to look up occasionally. Some of the ceilings are absolutely beautiful. As you may have explored the city first you will have seen the statues of El Cid and for older readers, it looks nothing like Charlton Heston. However in the cathedral there is a larger than life size portrait of Burgos's most famous son which makes him look more like a movie star than the ferocious statues. Allow two or three hours at least to take it all in. We thought we would be around in one hour max and left after three knowing had time permitted we could have spent longer. Outside the area around the cathedral is well worth a few photos and if you make your way out through the arch towards the river you will find long beautiful promenades that were apparently laid down by the French during the Napoleanic occupation of Northern Spain. One last thing, if you can visit during Holy Week or Semana Santa as the Spanish call it you will enjoy the extra bonus of the Easter celebrations that the Spanish love so much

“cathedral visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Well worth the price with a comprehensive audio guide included in entrance fee. Allow at least a couple of hours and more if you play the extra info on the guide. See El Cid's grave, many interesting and extravagant chapels and almost a mini cathedral within a cathedral! It was built to compete with the best cathedrals in Europe.
