“Good location to Cathedral and old town.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Very close to the touristic old town and grand cathedral. Unlike southern Spain, most of the north lacks English support for tourists : language, TV, menus. This hotel included. The basics are there but not well executed. Food is average. The staff handle multiple duties. Management seems lacking.

When I booked this four-star hotel, I arrived with expectation based on other four-star hotels at which I've stayed. They may share the basic criteria of other such hotels, but everything they do is according to the lowest possible standards. The two major problems with the Fernan Gonzalez is that the wifi in my room alternated between a weak and non-existent signal and one lobby receptionist spoke less English (or French) than my cat. Some of the minor problems with my room were a shower that only produces a trickle of water, a dangling shaving mirror bracket without the mirror, a toilet seat that doesn't fit the toilet, all TV channels are in English. The benefits from a quiet location near the bus terminal and proximity to the major attractions.

Room Tip: If wifi is important to you, then sleep in the lobby.

We are spending a few days of rest here in Burgos from walking El Camino. The only good thing about this hotel is the location, steps away from the footbridge to the Cathedral. It's old, it's dated, it needs renovation. Also was surprised it being a four star hotel, did not have any laundry service. So skip this place and opt for either the NH or AC hotels which are all in the same location. This is a big disappointment.

If u like old style hotels, this is the one.
Rooms are small, Airco insufficient but in the 60's we were not aware about Airco...
What me disappointed and what me satisfied :
- room insulation : zero, my neighbor was watching television and I could follow everything, but in the 60's we had no televisions on the room...
- Airco : insufficient
- property : very ok
- breakfast : GREAT !!!!
- price : ok
- location : walking distance cathedral Burgos

Located just a short walk from the centre of Burgos and the cathedral and also very close to the bus station this hotel is perfectly situated for a short city stay. I found the staff to be really friendly and they all spoke good English. The room was comfortable and clean and the bathroom had a full size bath with shower over and plenty of hot water and clean towels.

The room was provided with a large desk and comfortable chair but the furniture and decoration of the room was a bit dated, I particularly disliked the mirrored wall.I never managed to get the TV to work.

I suppose it's a matter of taste but I didn't like the way the common areas were furnished or decorated and the overstuffed gilded chairs and hugh pillars in the main reception area are just weird!

I'm not sure how the star system operates in Spain but I wouldn't say it was a 4 star hotel or a boutique hotel either. Given it's location the hotel was good value for money the staff were friendly and helpful and you can just ignore the strange fixtures and fittings!

If you're looking for a nice, comfortable place to stay in a quiet location right in the center of Burgos, this is the bes option. I booked through rumbo.com and got a very good deal. The staff at the reception were very attentive and willing to help. It could actually be a fantastic boutique Hotel if it weren't for the hideous decor. The decoration is so hilariously bad, ridiculously pretentious, tacky, cheesy, 'kitsch', I actually lack adjectives to describe it. Some of the other guests, mostly older british and spanish couples, seemed to like it, though. I guess it's a matter of taste... Or enormous lack of it! LOL
