“A piece of history”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

A very interesting slice of history and a very unique church, which captures the essence of Toledo. A combination of mosque and church it is quite remarkable, however there is not much else to see inside. Being very old most of the décor has faded, however considering how old the structure is, you feel a part of history.

“Deserted Mini Mosque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Although deserted for a while, this mini Mosque (Mezquita) represents a remarkable, still invariant, moorish sign in Toledo hill. Very well preserved from the exterior and the interior. Yet some fanatics have written some quotes from the Holy Quran & slogans in Arabic on its interior walls which should not be allowed by the authorities since this is a historical monument to preserve and reinstate to its original state.

entrance fee: 2 euro (comes with a flyer)

“Our favorite site in Toledo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

There's something about this small ancient building (AD 999) that is captivating. Originally a mosque privately built by a Muslim hoping for a reward from Allah, it became a church a century or so later when the Christian King Alfonso VIII conquered Toledo.
It's in good shape considering its age; the Christian frescoes, the Islamic arches, the nine vaults--each of different design, are fascinating to see. The glassed-in part of the floor are apparently Roman ruins (a road?). We were a small group of a Christian art historian, a Christian historian, and a Muslim designer--we all loved it!

“A lovely gem, worth seeking out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

This is an exquisite little fragment of Toledo's Moslem past, knocked about by the Christian conquerors but lovingly restored, with some attempt to provide a suitable surrounding space. It isn't very well explained but the brickwork is so lovely one's imagination makes up for that, especially with the presence of even earlier remains (what looks like a Roman roadway). It is a little off the main tourist beat (but very near one of the lovely mediaeval gateways). Well worth the effort.to find it.

“Worth finding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

This is one of the smaller, easier to miss destinations in Toledo. It's worth finding. There's something really special about visiting a site that's this old and well preserved/restored. There is a small admission fee, but it's worth it.

We also visited the restaurant just across the road - build above the gate that's as old as the mosque.

We visited Toledo for the day by train from Madrid. It's super easy to take the bus to/from the train station. We loved it. You feel like you're walking back in time, through a museum, or as my wife said "I feel like I'm in a movie set".
