Following stay at Hotel De Oso (see separate review) we stayed at this hotel. Totally different. Only one waiter smiled in fact one was so miserable he would make Victor Meldrew the life and sole of a party. The food was plentiful in variety and quantity but of a supermarket quality and the fresh orange for breakfast was more like orange squash. We stayed in a room overlooking the beach, it also was above the rubbish bins and kitchen as the weather was warm there were some awful smells, when challenged they blamed the city authorities and did nothing to redress it. The bins were emptied at 12.30am with a lot of noise. There were no tea/coffee making facilities and the mini bar contained chocolate, coke and water. The bead was comfortable. and the room was clean. If this is in the top 5 hotel in Santander I hate to think what the rest was like. It is close to the ferry and is across the road from the beach.

Room tip: Do not have a room above the kitchen/rubbish bins and have your balcony doors open

Hotel Chiqui is perfectly situated for an expansive view of Santander's Sardinero Beach. Be sure to book a room with a balcony or you'll miss the primary reason for staying here! To access the beach, just walk back four minutes along the street that borders the beach; you'll find a stairway/ramp down to the beach itself. Good people-watching here! We enjoyed watching students coming down to the beach, surfboards under arm, smiling and laughing nervously about what was apparently going to be their first surfboarding lesson. Other groups were already in the water and watching them test their skills was great fun. The evening we were here had moderate temperatures, so we slept with the balcony doors open to the sound of the waves. Ahhhhh -- so soothing! Hotel Chiqui's breakfast bar was great for a café con leche and croissant -- no need to do the whole buffet if you don't want that much to eat. There's free all-night on-street parking along the street in front of the hotel; just be patient and wait for a space to open up if there's none immediately available. Bottom line, nice hotel, moderate pricing, great balcony view. We'd stay here again....... Enjoy!

Room tip: Get a room with a balcony!

We stayed for 4 nights in early October with 6 of us. Our adjacent rooms had fantastic views looking out over the bay towards Magdalena. Great location for a beach holiday as long as you don't mind the pleasant walk or short bus ride to the town centre. The walk to the lighthouse from the hotel was lovely. We ate at the hotel cafe a couple of nights and it was fine. we also ate at some local restaurants a short walk away. Beach was great and surf boards can be hired just down the road to catch the waves. The internet was patchy but was free! The buffet breakfast was good, lots of variety and as much as you wanted, great for kids! Short taxi ride from the ferry and would stay there again! Would have loved a swimming pool! There is a supermarket just down the road to stock up on drinks for watching the sunset over the bay from your balcony!

Room tip: Request a room with a balcony as apparently some don't have them!

Chiqui Hotel, Santander: On our recent visit to Santander we decided to stay at Hotel Chiqui. We were not disappointed. It is a very short drive from the ferry port, just over two miles. The hotel is situated at the end of the bay facing the lovely Sardinero beach extending to almost two miles. We booked a large room for the sea so we had lots of space. Try to get a room facing the sea, it is worthwhile as early morning views are stunning. The room was exeptionally clean. The staff are very helpful. You do need a code to be able to use the WI FI, which is available in all parts of the hotel and in the rooms. The breakfast menu is very extensive, from continental to full English, but do not expect a hot breakfast as unfortunately the eggs and bacon were only warm. Afternoon drinks and snacks at the Cafe are good value. We did not try the Restaurant, the menu looked rather unusual and was expensive, semed to have few diners. Overall we had a very pleasant stay, all interesting attractions are either within walking distance or a short Taxi drive from the hotel. Limited parking specially at the weekends. We would certainly go back to stay at Chiqui Hotel on our next visit to Santander.

Room tip: Sea view room essential.

Our first stop on our tour of Cantabria and Asturias did not disappoint. We had a great room with a balcony overlooking the fabulous Sardinero beach. The hotel is the last hotel on the bay, very quiet and ideally placed for a walk around the bay. Impressed that the hotel provided beach towels free of charge. Would love to go back.
