“Hotel Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

After a rough British Airways flight which made us late to arrive at the hotel last week, we took the room we were offered straight away. Apparently we booked a room with balcony, so we went the next morning to reception desk asking about it, we were so lucky to speak to Ricardo who was so helpful & offered us another suite which had a balcony, he was so friendly, also gave us useful advices the following days where to go & all the good places. Thanks Ricardo, you made us enjoy our stay at the hotel which was so convenient. You are the right man at the right place.
In general the hotel is nice, clean, good location.

Really enjoyed our week staying at the Iberostar. The pool is great and the hotel is clean and well located. I would suggest venturing out into Santa Cruz for food & drinks as much as possible as the hotel is quite pricey compared to the town itself which has a lot to offer for a reasonable price. Also I made the mistake of getting some laundry cleaned without looking at the costs first. One tiny grocery size bag worth of clothes and close to 50 euro later it was a decision that I came to regret!

I stayed at this hotel when staying in Santa Cruz alone for 5 days. The swimming pool is great and is secluded from the streets and surrounded by palm trees, everything is clean and neat. Most of the time I stayed at the pool as it was too windy to be by the beach therefore it was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun. I loved it and would recommend to single travellers, couples and families. A tranquil place!

Room Tip: I think it is nice to have a room with the gardens view or the swimming pool view.

Excellent service, good food. Nice location in the heart of the city but you even don't feel it at all. Silence area. Super swimming pool, nic fitness and very good spa. 10 min driving by hotels bus to the beach. Wifi in entire hotel. Some additional gadgets in the rooms for the iPhone owners. So. Just came! And see and enjoy!

We have stayed in a lot of hotels in Spain ( both islands and mainland) and were looking forward to our stay here over New Year for some winter sun. Things did not get off to a good start when we were given a room without a balcony despite the description given when booking. While we eventually got a room with a balcony it was in shade most of the day so of little use for sitting in the sun. It turns out that contrary to the hotels claim per their website only a small number of rooms have balconies and this is a constant source of complaints from guests. The hotel were kind enough to give us a significant refund but then again we would rather have had what we thought we were paying for. It is a pity because otherwise it is a lovely hotel though the food is overpriced and not that good. Also no one offered to take our cases to our room which was very surprising for a place that claims 5 stars. I would stay here again if on business though not for R & R

Room Tip: If a balcony to sit in the sun is important have this confirmed by email. The rooms which I think ha...

Dear Guest,
As to us the vision of our clients is the clue to complete guest-satisfaction, we are very grateful for the time and effort you spent writing this review on your winter stay at our IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Mencey as we are fully aware that this is the best way to achieve superiority and excellence in our daily services.

First of all, we would like to point out that we do have a bell boy service and are sorry that it wasn’t available for you at the time of your arrival at 01.00 am as the service is available from 7.00 am to 23.30pm.

Further, we are sorry to hear that your first room allocation didn’t meet your expectations, as we understand you were looking forward to your holidays in our hotel and for a relaxing time on your sunny private balcony far away from the UK winter cold; we strongly apologize for not fulfilling your wishes in the first place. However we would like to point out that in the room descriptions on our website it doesn’t say that the majority of the rooms at our IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Mencey have a balcony, all room categories are described in detail and none puts in evidence the presence of a balcony but they are all described as having a balcony and/ or window.
The next morning of your arrival we offered you an upgraded accommodation as the one you previously booked as a compensation for failing to ensure you a Junior Suite with balcony and are very sad to see that it hasn’t been enough for you to enjoy a wonderful holiday whilst among us.

Finally we thank you again for taking the time and effort to write your opinion on your stay. Your review helps us to know how we can still improve the experience of our guests, and to us that is what it is all about.

Best Regards,

Online Reputation Manager

It is a new and beautiful business hotel on the Rambla Santa Cruz, walking distance to downtown and the port. It’s got a lovely lobby and a beautifully kept garden. We chose to stay in the double city view room after having seen some photos on TA. The city view we got was some roofs and a ground with black stones with some cactus planted on them; completely different from the pictures and therefore quite disappointing. The bed was on wheels that rolled even if you were just sitting up watching TV. There was no turn-down service or sweets on the bedside at night, yet they are rated 5*.
Check-in was quick and easy, but not welcoming. The folks from reception were rather lukewarm, just doing their job. Not one pleasantry or smile.
Breakfast was OK though they could improve their selection. Parking is paid for and WiFi is free.

Dear Guest,

As to us the vision of our clients is the clue to complete guest-satisfaction, we are very grateful for the time and effort you spent writing this review on your recent stay at our IBEROSTAR Grand hotel Mencey as we are fully aware that this is the best way to achieve superiority and excellence in our daily services.

It is very unfortunate that you didn’t fully enjoy your stay at our hotel and that we couldn´t meet your expectations as a five-star establishment. We always try to pamper our guests with the best service to make their stay as comfortable as possible and we are very sorry that we couldn´t make our goal with you. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that we strive to ensure that the culture of warm hospitality is imbued in every person who works at our hotel and to capture perfectly the exact balance between courtesy and friendliness which is different for each guest.
It is our target to open our doors to offer a wide range of dishes to sample the best recipes not only from the Canary Islands but international dishes for all tastes as well. In IBEROSTAR we believe that the culinary part of your holiday is very important and therefore we only work with professional chefs, using products of prime quality.

On the other hand, we are grateful that you highlighted the beautifulness of our hotel and its lovely lobby and well-kept gardens as well as the perfect location to enjoy all the marvels that the busting, cosmopolitan city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has to offer.

Once more we want to say how worthy your opinion is to us and thank you again for sharing it on Tripadvisor and look forward to serving you again in the future.

We stayed here last week, it is a great hotel. Recently renovated the communal areas are immaculately clean, beautifully tendered gardens complete with a terrapin pool, gorgeous long salt water pool with lots of loungers and great breakfast made for a very relaxing stay.
There have been lots of comments on check in, although it was not that fast the service was great, you can be bombarded with information when you arrive in a hotel which is all available in your room, this was not the case here. Andres who served us was efficient and throughout our stay proved to be a great help, making reservations in restaurants and guiding us on transport and directions daily.
Breakfast was served either on the patio or in the beautiful dining room, choices were vast but i ordered fresh omelettes daily which were fabulous. Cava is available on the breakfast buffet, a nice holiday treat. I recommend the churros. Chefs were seen daily checking food temperatures (which i didn't have a problem with)
We had a basic room but it was very comfortable, very clean and the beds were lovely. It was road facing but noise was not an issue at all. The room wasn't equipped with shower caps or an iron but we asked for them and they were with us in minutes. I did however miss not having access to a kettle in the room.
The bar serve and excellent gin and tonic, with a choice of lots of gins, a good start to an evening out.
There is a casino downstairs in the hotel, we were given a complementary drink voucher on check in which was lovely. It is quite small but we are not serious gamblers so was fun to visit for an hour,
In summary i would absolutely recommend this hotel, it was relaxing, clean and beautiful. Santa Cruz is a lovely town, easy to navigate on foot or bus, quite Spanish with excellent food everywhere.
If you stay here, go to the tapas bar opposite (Tagorar) for lovely food - especially the tortilla and tomato salads. And a trip to the white beach is easy by bus and lovely day out.

Room Tip: Garden view are available at a cost, road facing standard room get the morning sun on the veranda
