“High on a Hill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

Having just returned from the lovely island of Tenerife staying this time at Puerto de la Cruz, we were so pleased with this side of the island. As we were driving along the highway and espyed our Hotel up on the top of a large hill, what a delight to the eye. On arrival it was awesome. It took our breath away. Checking in straight forward, staff smashing and our room was so large and spacious , large balcony with views to die for. We were looking ahead to 'Tiede' from one view and down to the town centre and ocean looking the other way. Views from wherever you were, were spectacular. Seeing is believing. Staff in ALL areas of the hotel were extremely kind and helpful. Perfect. One downside was the food. Not the volume or the quality that was excellent, with lots of choices, it was the temperature. We like our hot food to be just that hot. In some countries abroad this does happen occasionally, but it is important to alot of people that the food is kept 'hot'. Shuttle bus service was brilliant, quick trip to town not a problem. We had some very good evening entertainment to finish off our lovely hot sunny days.Barbara & Frank

We stayed from 19 September to 26 September 2012 on an all inclusive basis , and had a fantastic stay. We had booked a standard room but on arrival we were upgraded to a seaview with an enormous terrace free of charge. The hotel was very clean and all the staff were friendly, particularly Samuel, one of the bar tenders and Martin, the entertainments co-ordinator. The food was of good quality. In addition to the main restaurant, there was a bar that served snacks during the day. There were also restaurants and cafes in Puerto de la Cruz which were worth a visit.

There was a free bus that went into Puerto de la Cruz from the hotel during the morning and did a late afternoon pick journey too. Puerto de la Cruz was a walkable distance from the hotel, although you may want to consider getting a hire car to go further a field.

Room Tip: Go for a seaview room

We spent three days at Hotel Las Águilas. The place, although it has its disadvantages - you need transport to move, its simply magic.
The fact that its located on the top of the hill gives you a privileged view: on the one side, Puerto de la Cruz and the Ocean, on the other side, the highest mountain in Spain: Teide - an active volcano, by the way. Its always beatiful, but during nights its just unbelivable.
Rooms are incredibly big, and all of them have jacuzzi. The views are spectacular wherever you get it. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The food is delicious.
We decided to make our weeding there, and it couldnt have been better. Everything was greater than we expected.
Its, indeed, one of the best four stars hotels Ive ever been. In many aspects it deserves the five stars.

Booked this last minute. Chose this hotel due to good reviews. We really enjoyed our stay and were really pleased with our choice.
Positives : beautiful location with fantastic views, hotel very clean and well kept, our room was huge - could do with a bit of an update but cleaned daily and great sea views, food was good - not the best we've had on all inclusive - but lots of choice and enjoyable. Staff were all friendly and helpful - reception were particularly helpful and Cesar in restaurant stood out. It was our anniversary whilst we were there and my husband requested bottle of bubbly for the room which we got, plus he arranged with Cesar for a candlelit table in restaurant with bubbly - Cesar arranged all this plus roses on table etc, had a lovely evening and we weren't charged for either bottle of bubbly which was a nice surprise! Weather was hot - because the hotel is in the mountains it tends to get a lot of cloud but it was still hot. Free bus into town/beach which was handy, but remember timetable as only a few buses a day and make sure you get back to bus stop early as the driver left a lot earlier than the time he was due to leave! Rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels. You can hire pool towels for a 15 euro deposit each towel which you get back when you leave. There are safes in the room which cost 2 euros a day with a 5 euro deposit.

Negatives : snack bar food was pretty poor - but main restaurant was open at lunch time so not too much of an issue. There are 3 pools - a children's pool and 2 other main pools, although there weren't a lot of young children there and they were all well behaved - they should make one of the pools adult only. The pool nearest the hotel was the noisiest so most adults/couples seemed to go to the cliff top pool which was quieter - however children were still running around and screaming which was quite annoying for adults who just wanted to relax, read, have a quiet swim etc. By making one of the pools adult only( which still leaves two other pools for kids/families ) then everyone would be happy. Entertainment was a bit cheesy and dull - apart from the flamenco dancers night which were great. If you love the beach this is not hotel for you - hotel is not near beach (you have to get free bus) and the beach is small and black rocky sand - not very attractive, but this didn't bother us as we prefer the pool. You can only get water from the water machines in restaurant/bar areas - no water in rooms unless you pay for it.

Other reviews have mentioned that English guests weren't given same treatment by staff - we did not find that the case at all. Guests seemed to be predominantly German and Spanish, with some Russian and English - everyone was pleasant and friendly. We found staff friendly and helpful. It sometimes seems that Spanish guests get special treatment in restaurant but we realised that most of the Spanish were not all inclusive - hence they get waiter service. If you're all inclusive then you help yourself to drinks, so it was nothing to do with what nationality you were - just if you were half board/ b and b or all inc.
A must is a visit to Loro Parque which we loved - you can get the free bus from hotel into the centre then there is a free road train on the sea front to Loro Parque. You can buy tickets for the park at hotel reception for same price.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and really liked the hotel. We would definately go back and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: We requested sea view, quiet room which we got. We had sea view room on second floor which was huge...

I've stayed there 10 nights and all service was good. The Hotel is located on a hill, mid Puerto de la Cruz Tenerife, can be seen from the highway or anywhere else from nearby. The road up to the hotel is tricky as it's kind of hidden and no mark signs can be found. We travelled 1 hour from South Airport to Puerto de la Cruz (100km), but we wasted about 1.5 hours just find the road that takes up to the hill, so we surrounded the hill a couple of times (the road is on the highway side). Hotel room excellent although it was a reduced, economy room, we had 1 huge living room and 1 bedroom + one 10 sqm terrace, totally approximately 40sqm. Bed sheets, towels and room service on daily basis. Staff was friendly, reception was OK (one Spanish guy wasn't that friendly though), hotel prices good. We played for HB and I don't have any complaints for it. Food was different each day, prices were quite ok (2.2 euros/300ml Cola). The hotel staff even packed us some food when we left early morning the hotel.
Price was excellent.

- PRO: price, location, accommodation, pool, food
- CONS: rooms that are not on the pool/see side are quite cloudy due to the hill and El Teide; the road that takes you up to the hotel is not that easy to find.

Hotel has amazing location, great views, nice rooms, refurbished with aircon not very up to date with low efficiency.
1. Hotels looks great thats a fact (to 4 stars) as tenerife hotels are hugely overrated. This didnt let it self down on first impression thats for sure.
2. Rooms are spacious with twin beds together as one double no much comfortable but again thats most of canaries hotels I stayed in. Aircon is just uselles thing there one in each room but very poor. There is fan on ceiling which saved it all. Our room was seaview so no much sun to the rooms not that hot.
3. There are 2 pools, one next to the bar and 2nd with no bar facilities so no much use. Waterfall didnt work during our stay.
4. Receptionist nothing special but not rude, try to help as much as they get paid for dont think they are on that fat salaries thou}}
5.Restaurant is spacious, food is well cooked but variety is very poor. We had to eat out every day.
6. Drinks are not very much good either I especially missed sangria pipe.

Overall hotel is good, fine for a money, I would stay there again but no all inclusive as it was not working much for us, bed and breakfast is best option there. If you have no car I think you will spend a fortune on taxis as hotel is on the top of the hill and only 3 or 4 buses there a day.We had a good weather so it is also reflected in my feedback as nothing was upsetting me much because of that. I would recommend this as romantic trip but dont expect miracles as canaries 4stars are overrated.

Room Tip: pick one with aircon working}

We stayed at the hotel with our friends we both travelled with two young children each. Our first impression of the hotel was .... This is glorious, they are not going to want kids here... How wrong were we. There was lovely balance with kids which enabled them to experience q little culture with this holiday.

The hotel is Spanish with a mix of British and Germans. The hotel was plentiful with sunbeds and lovely pools.

The views surrounding the hotel were breathtaking, over the coast and into the mountains.

We hired a car for the week which made getting around that much easier. The food was delightful always being able to find something delicious at every meal.

The rooms were clean large and made our stay a very comfortable as we were not all on top of one another in q tiny room.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and the resort to friends, everything we could have asked for.

Big thanks to catarina for the kids disco, entertained us and the kids..... Chhooci wah!!!
