Just returned from 1 week hol at Hotel perla tenerife, It's situated within a pleasant residential area just a 10 min walk down hill to the town, but use the new foot bridge route over the v.parched ravine behind hotel. The Hotel is comfy and clean with pool, sun terrace and Bar on the roof with lovely view of sea and mnt Teide. We had all inclsve, beverages were good and the food was ok very spanish which is good but I think some of it was a bit low quality, especially the attempt of an english brekky hmmm (take ye own tea bags) lol, we ate out about 3 nights but that was no reflection on hotel. The majority of guests at the hotel were Spanish from mainland Spain and 20% were German and 5% British.. My attempts of speaking my basic spanish skills just confused and staff knew only basic english so there was a bit of a barrier going on...ola, bueno, gracias, por favor, cerveza, agua and pointing to things seems to get you by quite well. I quite liked the multicultured atmosphere it made a change from very british hotels/resorts you get and the staff were friendly. Puerto is very cosmopolitin very characteristic especially the old town... loads of lovely plazas, cafes, restaurants and food out is very reasonably priced. Really pretty harbour,Lido, sun platforms, casino and gardens. Go to Loro park (parque) Its a really lovely animal park with happy animals in it. This was my first time ive been to tenerife and I think Puerto de la cruz feels like you are experiencing the tenerife culture that you wouldnt get as much in other resorts on the island. I noticed that there isnt much ancient history in tenerife. On the whole Puerto is lovely and isnt boring, it has some cool trendy bars (not cheesy), the north side is very green and botanical and the clouds are refreshing, I would go back to puerto but not in the near future as there are other places to visit.
