“Brilliant Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday in a quality hotel then the hotel Riu Garoe is ideal. The pool area and gardens are lovely, and it was nice always be able to get a sunbed and brolly anytime of the day. We enjoyed the food especially breakfast which we often ate outside on the terrace. The hotel is in a quiet area, about a couple of miles uphill from the town centre. The hotel operates a free regular bus service to and from Puerto 5 and a half days a week. However it was under 5 euros for a taxi. It is an easy walk from the hotel to the botanic gardens which are lovely and well worth a visit. The hotel staff overall were probably the best we have ever had in a hotel abroad. Thank-you hotel Riu Garoe for a lovely holiday.

Having seen the reviews of this hotel on Tripadvisor I had high expectations and we were not entirely disappointed however there were some niggles that meant this hotel did not have the 'wow' factor for us.
I had taken time to call the hotel prior to our arrival to discuss room options and having spoken to a very helpful gentleman was confident that our room requirements would be catered for and was promised the same.
Our arrival was late evening and we were welcomed with a cool drink. The procedure was efficient if not a little abrupt and we were directed to our room. Suffice to say the room was not in the location or bed configuration we had requested, A call to reception was met with a less then helpful reply of 'sort it out in the morning and we do not guarantee rooms'.
A more accurate reply should have been we do not guarantee rooms unless you are a regular at this hotel or RIU member. How do we know this - well the two couples checking in before us were regulars and indeed got their requested rooms!
Fortunately our holiday rep was on the ball and sorted out the problem for us the following day but the promised 12 noon room change was delayed until 4pm and still had the wrong bed configuration. On day 3 we had our desired room and bed configuration at last.
The rooms themselves are very clean and of a high standard but let down with poor quality towels and bathrobes. The bathrobes are strangely taken out of the room the day before your departure for the next guests, a complimentary product should be available for your entire stay as far as I am concerned.
The gardens and pool are well maintained with attentive pool staff who are happy to help with loungers. There was some lounger reservation taking place however we did not have any problems finding a place to relax. The pool towels were collected, changed and returned to the reception.
The staff in general were pleasant and friendly but we did come across the odd one who was obviously having a bad day.
The food at breakfast and dinner was buffet style with a very wide selection. On the whole it was very good quality and catered for all taste. The hotel gives you a time and allocated table to eat your evening meal however at breakfast you are free to eat wherever you wish. A strange system we have only ever experienced on cruise ships but it does mean that if you are looking forward to eating your evening meal 'al fresco' you have to go on a 'waitlist' for a table to become available.( we got our outside table on day 3 of our holiday ) Frustrating if allocated tables outside are not in use and you are stuck inside the restaurant eating your meal.
The hotel is situated in the quiet area but with a complimentary shuttle service into Puerto de la Cruz.
The hotel obviously has loyal regulars who return every year and is popular with Germans. On some levels it is good however for us it has some strange procedures and it failed to deliver it's full promise. Would we return - no

Enjoyed the hotel and location so much that we have just booked again for next year.
This was our first holiday abroad for some years without the children and had a really great and relaxing time. The hotel was well located just on the edge of the resort in a quiet area but within a short walking distance of some local bars and restaurants, whilst a regular shuttle bus service transported us to and from Peurto De La Cruz. The accommodation was excellent and we had a room with balcony at the front of the hotel in which we found what little traffic there was to be unobtrusive whilst the curtains were heavy enough to keep out the streetlights. The pool area and gardens were immaculately kept whilst the gym and crazy golf provided relief from lounging by the pool in the sun. The buffet provided for breakfast and the evening meal was excellent with plenty of choice. Main problem we had to contend with was trying to eat so much. If feeling peckish at lunchtime, the pool bar also provided a good choice of snacks and meals. Staff at the hotel from reception, room maids, bar staff, restaurant staff and pool attendants were very helpful, polite and friendly.

Hopefully you can understand why we have already booked again for next year.

Hotel lies in quiet area of Puerto de la Cruz, not far from the highway exit. It is (contrary to many hotels on the island) very well kept, grounds are clean and well taken care of. Pool area is quiet and inviting, although the pool may be too small for any serious swimming.
Staff made my stay - all helpful, smiling and friendly. Little problems will always be there, but it is how staff solves them that counts. From me, two thumbs up.
Food - seemingly great choice, but after a while you start to notice patterns. Despite this you will never walk out hungry. The quality is good, wine is good - no complaints. Restaurant has a "no shorts" for men policy.
The only thing that didn't work up to standard was WiFi - but who needs it when you are on vacation? :)
In the immediate vicinity you will find rental car offices, a small shop (bigger one is 15 minutes walking distance), botanical garden worth visiting (3 eur), some small restaurants. Loro Parque is about 4.6 km away, beaches (black sand) are far away.

Room Tip: Take rooms upstairs, floors 2 up. I stayed in 208, was very quiet and had a nice view.

Stayed here in late July. My girlfriend and I are in the hotel business ourselves and can't compliment it enough. The housekeeping staff are brilliant from the rooms and public areas are so clean. its perfect for couples looking for a relaxed holiday or a small family break. Two members of staff made our stay as perfect as it was and that was Javier on the bar who made us special cocktails on two nights and always came and checked up on us and we are keeping in contact. Also Cristina such a smiley and bubbly character she instantly brought up the mood wherever they were ... they both deserve a pay rise! they are the reason we are coming back! Only improvement I could offer for the hotel is the bar menu isn't great. Despite that amazing hotel thank you very much!

We stayed at the Riu Garoe from Friday 19th July to Friday 26th July, which was the first time we had stayed at this Hotel, in fact it was the first time in Tenerife. The Hotel proved to be good, after much research into Hotels, but unfortunately i did not do the same for Tenerife itself. Anyway, we found the Hotel to be clean, the staff pleasant and helpful and a wide range of food, served buffet style, was of a good standard, both at breakfast and dinner. We had 2 rooms overlooking the pool, which were quite spacious and pleasant, with a good sized bathroom with shower over bath. The only disappointment were the 2 single beds pushed together, which were also quite hard. The Hotel was airy and spacious, with an air of sophistication and the pool was delightful. As for Tenerife, we found it to be very brown and barron, although the north of the Island was a little better, unfortunately we didn't find it to be picturesque and so will not be returning to Tenerife. But Many Thanks to Candido and his Staff for such a Lovely Hotel.

Just back from a 2 week stay. Hotel is immaculately clean throughout with probably, without exception, the most friendly staff we have encountered. The rooms are well furnished and very comfortable. There is a minibar and tea and coffee making facilities in each room which should be replenished every day. Unfortunately ours was missed on most days and so we had to complain to reception that we were out of supplies. On two occasions this resulted in a maid coming up with a completely full set of tea and coffee equipment and supplies which eventually left us with 3 kettles in our room as they did not take the original ones away! Minibar prices are very reasonable. Generally speaking the pool area is very quiet and relaxing with no need to be up at the crack off dawn to reserve a sunbed. There were not many children at the hotel although this did change at weekends when there appeared to be an influx of locals who did raise the noise levels. The dining room is a little cramped but the two sitting evening buffet system seems to work very well with each guest being allotted a table to sit at for the whole of their stay. Food was OK with some dishes being unusually tasty for a buffet, but was distinctly slanted towards the German tastes, as they made up at least ninety per cent of the hotel guests. Personally I found the pastry/cake section a little lacking in imagination although I was never short of finding a dessert that fitted the bill. After the first week the menu became very repetitive and perhaps the menu could do with spicing up a bit with the inclusion of some Asian or Mexican dishes to provide a change. Hotel entertainment is very low key.The hotel is situated in a very quiet residential area with the nearest bars and restaurants being 5-10 minutes walk away up a slight incline. These are fine for a quiet drink but are not suitable for anyone who wants a lively time. Hotel shuttle bus (free) runs five and a half days a week between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm and goes down to the shopping centre in town where there is a big supermarket for any supplies that you might need. A taxi back from town costs 5 euros which is money well spent as the walk back is all uphill! My only criticism of the hotel is that they feel a need to charge 2 euros a day for the use of the digital safe in your room to keep your valuables in, which for a 4 star hotel seems a little petty.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool get the afternoon sun. Sea view rooms get the morning sun.
