“A fabulous hotel to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We arrived very early morning and when we got to our room we were provided with a late dinner which was very thoughtful. The hotel room was spotless and the maids cleaned the room well each day and replenished shampoo etc. You can get your sheets changed if you put a request card on the bed and also get the towels changed if you required. The hotel room was very smart with a great sat television and very comfortable twin beds which make a large double. Pool towels were also availiable at reception which was very handy. Being an artist they could of put a few pictures on the wall to make the room feel more cosy.
The frequent free shuttle bus outside the hotel to Puerto de la Cruz was very helpful as it would be a long stroll to the centre it takes about 5 minutes by bus. You can also get a return shuttle bus. We also got local buses which were very cheap and frequent. You can by a Bono card from a local newagent and you can get half price bus tariffs using this card. We are keen body boarders and we went to Sicorro beach not far away which is blue flag and an amazing surf beach. I would strongly recommend going to this black sandy beach as it is away from the tourist crowd and has very clean water.
Although Puerto de la Cruz looks a bit dated, it was a very sweet town to visit. The Playa Jardin was a great beach to visit with fine black sand. If you walk away from the tourist trail by the sea there are some really smart shops which are quite cheap compared to the tourist shops. There was a nice buzz and atmosphere in the town which we really liked.
The food in the hotel was great. It is so nice to be cooked for and there was lots of variety of food from local fish to freshly cooked meat and a great salad bar. The breakfast is also really good offering a wide variety of food from continental to a full cooked breakfast. The only problem is we have gained weight as the food was so tempting.
The customer service was excellent which we feel is the most important element of the stay. Although the reception staff spoke little english, they were very helpful and accomodating.
We were very impressed how relaxed the hotel was and felt very at home especially for a chain hotel.
The sauna was very well maintained and a lovely changing area. The indoor swimming pool was lovely and you can do gym, squash, tennis, crazy golf and there is an outdoor childrens play area.
Our only criticism is that the hotel website has very out of date images of the rooms etc which doesn't sell the hotel as it should do. The public areas are also very clean and well decorated. The outside grounds are well kept and the pool is very clean and large. We stayed in a hotel room overlooking the sea and hills which was very pretty except for the waste ground which will be a building development some day. Although initially we wanted to move the view is more interesting than the pool area.
The hotel mainly caters for Germans but we didn't find it too much of a problem. We would strongly recommend anyone to come here if they want a stress free stay. We will be coming back again! Sorry to write so much but the hotel deserves a great review. Thank you to all the staff at Riu Garoe!

Overall one of the best 4 star hotels we have ever stayed in and we would definitely recommend.

If you are happy staying within the hotel complex and spending your time around the pool, then this is the place for you.

Excellent spacious rooms beautifully cleaned and maintained by the friendly staff. The whole hotel is really well run. The food is absolutely fantastic. A massive high quality buffet selection for breakfast and dinner. A good snack bar serves lunch to order.

The hotel is situated 1 km or so outside the centre of Peurto de la Cruz in a residential area.

There is a small botanical garden nearby (3 euros entry). As there is nothing to do near the hotel, a frequent free bus is provided by the hotel to the town centre.

We stayed at Riu Garoe for 10 days over x-mas in 2011. The room itself was comfortable, the bathroom even more so, and we also got a small terrace which was lovely (we took a standard room so did not expect that). The food was outstanding - we had half board but not once did we tire of eating dinner in as the variety and quality of the offerings went way above our expectations. The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make the stay comfortable also for our 14-month-old son. The pool area was large, with possibilities to lounge on grass, which was nice. The pool and kid pool were clean and inviting. The hotel is rather far from the city centre and the beaches, but a taxi will take you there in less than 5 minutes, plus there are several shops, restaurants and a lovely botanical garden very close to the hotel. The average age of guests is relatively high, as in most Puerto de la Cruz hotels (most younger guests head to las Americas in the south) and it seemed that the majority of guests were German. All in all, a wonderful, relaxing holiday. We will definitely try other Riu resorts after this experience.

Riu Garoe is an elegant hotel with beautiful scenery, the staff are very friendly and welcoming however this hotel is very quite and tranquil so if you have a large family with kids and are looking to have some loud fun then i would suggest you travel to the north of tenerife as the south hasnt got much atmosphere especially for the brits. The hotel is isolated away from the main towns so it is a fair walk to reach the main points. Overall the hotel has great food and is really good but is a peaceful and relaxing hotel .

The Hotel was selected on the basis of the Trip Advisor rating. I am pleased to say that it fully met our expectations and the best hotel we have stayed at for some years with respect to the buiding, gardens and restaurant. The hotel building is a traditional style with delightful gardens, the range of food options is extensive with many dishes prepared on the spot. The ready availability of hot plates was much appreciated. We were invited to meet the Director and his team during our visit together with a tour of the kitchens. This together with the staff attitude reinforced the opinion of a well managed hotel and motivated staff.

We were on Teneriffe for the first time and chose the hotel on the basis of the good reports on Trip advisor. We were not disppointed. The staff were extremely helpful and could speak German and English (a high percentage of the guests are German since Puerto de la Cruz is popular with guests from Germany). There was a large amount of choice at the buffet (we were staying half board) and even guests from other hotels were dining there. I would, however, say that a lot of the food was repeated on each night. Worst case if you get bored - there are many restaurants 10 minutes walking distance away. The hotel is, however, showing signs of wear and tear and the refurbishment will do it good. A personal wish, WLAN access in the rooms. To walk to the lobby each night to check mails or to surf is not optimal. I ended up buying a SIM card (EUR 14,- from movistar with 100 MB for 1 month). Another recommendation - if you like walking then join the Masca Gorge walk with collection by boat at the bottom. We used Victors (in German and French language). As a previous person here said this is a good choice, especially if you have never visited the island before (like us). Finally, hire a car - they are so cheap and you see much more! Hope this helps

The magical RIU Hotel Garoe, is an elegant, stylish, relaxing and classy 4 star hotel with the best staff and personnel in the hospitality business, led by the uniquely talented and highly professional and experienced Director, Snr Candido Figueroa.
Although the buildings and gardens of the hotel are stunning and well maintained, it is the staff and personnel of an hotel that make it special and this is what the Garoe has in plentiful measure. The team at the Garoe are simply the best in the business, especially on Tenerife, if not elsewhere. The level of personal attention, the eye for detail and your every whim catered for would put many a 5 star hotel, anywhere in the world, to shame. As airline professionals, we are fortunate to travel the world extensively and would think of using no other hotel in Tenerife for our own personal holiday/vacation choice. The Garoe, in our opinion, is that good and offers fantastic quality, value, service and facilities for the price paid. Infact, during our stay on Tenerife, we visited two 5 star, Grand Lujo (luxury) hotels in the south west of the island. Although nicely located, again, with beautiful buildings, none of these two hotels we visited offered the same warm welcome or level of hospitality on display at the Garoe.Indeed, the quality of food we sampled at one of these 5 star establishments, did not compare at all favourably with the level of food and service at the RIU Hotel Garoe. No, the RIU Hotel Garoe is something very special and will only get better (if that is possible?) following it's renovation between late May and early July 2012. In all honesty, if you are looking for an elegant, classy, relaxed and unstuffy, chilled out holiday in a beautiful part of the amazing island of Tenerife then look no further. The Garoe, under the leadership of Snr Figueroa and his amazing staff, will captivate you with it's magical, laidback charm.Personally, we can't wait to return to be pampered by the staff and to fall under the Hotel Garoe's exceptional spell again!
