“Reasonable value for the money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We took a change when we booked this appartment, see the reviews here. From the outside it is okay, and the garden is really an extra value, but the appartment is really out of date, with poor kitchen and beds, and if you don't expect any luxury in the bathroom is at its best okay.
But on the other hand the price is really cheap, so if you don't want any luxuries this a place to stay for the night. For everything else there is plenty of choice in the neighbourhood. And Puerto de la Cruz is a very nice place to stay.

Overall, I was pleased with the Teide Mar. We booked late, so didn't have much choice of accommodation, so chose this place based on the slightly better reviews than the others that were available. I was slightly apprehensive as I have never stayed in this type of package apartment block before, but i was pleasantly surprised.

Good Things
The view of Mount Teide from my balcony
The cleanliness and size of the room
The location (I was on a cycling trip so it was ideally located for getting in/out of Puerto)
Parking (the parking on the surrounding streets is free of charge and i had no problem finding a spot)
The wifi (although it was €12 for 72 hours it was quick and efficient)
Location (there are a couple of nice bars in the area and it's a short and pleasant 10/15 minute walk to the main town area for dinner in the evening - there are restaurants on the streets around the apartments but i didn't eat in those)
Breakfast (I only had the breakfast once, but at €6 pp i thought there was a good selection of things - although the coffee from the machine is awful!)

Not So Good Things
The kitchenette was not brilliant - no oven/grill and no kettle, although I ate out every evenings and used a pan to boil water, so no major issue
No hairdryer in the rooms (although i have read below that these could be borrowed from reception.. bit of a pain to borrow one every night though)
Could do with a general bit of tlc, but for the price it was fine.
Wifi is only in reception - if it was available in the rooms I would have paid to have it all week.

These are all minor quibbles - overall, the Teide Mar was good value.

Room Tip: I paid £20 extra (for the week) to have a "Pool View" room. This was worth every penny as...

Great location with plenty of restaurants, shops and supermarkets nearby. Also, just a short walk to the botanic gardens. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Whole place felt a little tired and in need of a facelift but we had a nice balcony facing the quiet side road. The kitchenette was very basic (no kettle) but adequate to make breakfast and lunch.
For some reason sleep quality was not good. The room was quiet but we did not find the beds comfortable. No hair dryer.
The room had a safe for 9 euro per week, a small TV was extra, and wi-fi was extra.

Dear Peter,

We would like to thank you for your review on your stay in Teide Mar. We are glad to hear that you liked staying at the property except of some smaller inconveniences mentioned. Generally, our reception is happy to provide kettle and hair dryer to the guests if needed. As for the beds, most of our guests like it the way they are. Nevertheless, again, perhaps our staff could have helped you in some way. Indeed TV and Wi-Fi are available at an extra charge to be paid at the hotel. We sincerely hope to see you again whenever you decide to come to Puerto de la Cruz. It would be a pleasure for all of us to welcome you again.

okay so their are pros and cons of the teide mar apartments. The location is great there is plenty on the door step.Restaurants, shops supermarket etc.If you want it a bit livlier then a 10-15 min walk away is all it takes-more restaurants more shops and you also hit the beach there too!The walk ack you do climb 257 steps so quite a chore but a cab is cheap.
The staff are great aswell and the pool area is nice and large with plenty of sunbeds and plenty of sun, very nice mature gardens. But we were never comfortable.....
The sun beds yes are a plenty but they are so hard. The beds in the room hard, the sofa in the room hard can you see a theme here!
Also as a self catering I agree with previous comments how you can you self cater with no toaster, kettle or oven? The room size is great shower lovely and the seperate bedroom is a nice idea-Also to have a balcony was nice!
So as I said pros & cons....Would I return? im not sure location yes comfort no

Room Tip: ask for a pool view

Nearly 4/5, but let down by the poor kitchenette, which needed refurbishment - broken, distorted worktop, tap nearly hanging off, limited utensils. However, it was functional. Beds firm but comfortable, room cleaned well, clean linen. Bathroom again a bit tired and tatty, but functional. Elsewhere, the hotel is tired and dated, though its general appearance, dominated by its traditional Canarian wooden balconies, is still impressive. Avoid rooms at the front if you dislike loud music until 23:00. The pool/garden is nice and the staff on reception very nice. We were allowed to stay in our room until late on our last day - it is definitely worth at least asking. The location is good; there is a good supermarket nearby (the Sumo) and plenty of restaurants, plus the Mirador de la Paz (view down over the town) and the Botanic Gardens. We did not find the walk to the town centre and back a problem, though clearly some people do. Parking close to the hotel is a lottery and you may have to park as much as a few hundred metres away. Overall the hotel is still good value for money and we would go back.

Room Tip: Best rooms are those overlooking the pool/garden area.

We spent one month here in January 2013. As a base for visiting Tenerife, it was very good, despite the 271 steps down to the beach. We found the hotel to be spotlessly clean, and the staff who all spoke good English, were very friendly and helpful. As a lot of people have already mentioned, the hotel is very 'tired' and well overdue for refurbishment. Whilst the kitchen area was 'adequate', there were pots and pan, but no utensils, making cooking almost impossible. The freezer compartment was totally blocked with ice, and one of the kitchen cupboards fell off (to be fair, when we reported it, it was fixed immediately). There were a lot of sun loungers, but the ones that had backrests did not have the back supports to be able to use them (regulars brought their own 'props' down with them. A good tip is that if you are intending to visit this hotel, buy a cheap walking stick, it seems to be the correct height for the sun bed props. Also there were NO mats for the sunbeds. The one downside for us was the Apricot bar on the ground floor (not related to the hotel we believe). We are early risers, and therefore go to bed fairly early. The guitarist strikes up at 8pm, and goes on until late in the night. If you are in an apartment facing the road, whilst the traffic is light, the guitar music is LOUD. Not only that but he has the same songsheet every night. By the end of the month, we were word perfect on all his songs. Overall, for what the holiday cost, the hotel was value for money, but we would have paid a little more for a more updated hotel

Room Tip: Facing the pool. When we went there was no entertainment poolside during the evening, but loud music...

I was not expecting luxury for what we paid but like some other reviewers, we felt this place needs a bit of TCL. The Canarian exterior is pretty but surrounded as it is by smarter ,newer ,hotels it is beginning to look like the poorer neighbour.
The apartment was a reasonable size, especially just for two adults. Storage space was adequate but would have liked some drawers. Safe in wardrobe -9 euros for the week plus 12 euros deposit. Only two ring hob- no grill or oven, and no kettle so always heating water in open saucepan-hard to tell when boiling for tea.No maid service on Wednesday or Sunday but service was fine otherwise. TV was tiny and high up on wall. Be aware there is an additional charge for this and a charge for the WI-fi. Both were enough to put us off using them. If you need wi- fi the La Paz cafe opposite has this free - you need password.

Pool is nicely surrounded by garden but is showing signs of wear. Loungers are not adjustable and there are no cushions. Pool bar is right under balcony for rooms 226-232 so can be noisy.

We did not use the restaurant or bar. It' s about 20 minute downhill walk to town centre but a steep walk back. We used a taxi- about 3 or 4 euros.

Room Tip: Noise travels in garden area so go for higher floors. Sea views onto street will not get much Sun as...
