“Well done San Felipe staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2010

We were in the Hotel on the night of the Hurricane 30th November with winds up to 200km/hr. The hotel and grounds suffered extensive damage. We had to vacate our room (14th floor) at 06.00hrs as the window was twisted in its frame by the wind and the wind was so fierce that we had to struggle to open the bedroom door.

When we arrived in the foyer there was chaos. The staff who had braved the storm to come to work, ushered us into the dining room at 06.45 and made tea and coffee for everyone then prepared breakfast.

While we were in the dining room we heard a very loud bang and the wind rushed through the dining room scattering everything in its path - the revolving door in reception had been shattered by the wind.

I cannot speak too highly of the staff; everyone helped out. Staff who were off duty arrived in their civvies - even staff who have retired came to help. Workmen had to carry sheets of MDF up 16 stories to board up broken windows and then carry up the replacement windows and bring the boards down again as they were too big to fit in the lifts.

Over the next 3 days it was 'all hands on deck' as the clean-up began. Guests arriving 3 days later had no idea of the carnage that had been wrought. Every member of staff from the manager down gave their all to assist guests and clean up the damage, but you still had the usual moaners who were not satisfied - probably looking for compensation.

The staff were fantastic, I cannot praise them highly enough. This was our third visit and we will certainly be returning next year

on arrival the hotel receptionist wasnt very approachable ,but once they got to know you they couldnt do enough . hotel, food, and room were fantastic.clean and it was very relaxing .wish hotel would have had music through the day as you were sunbathing as it does get a little boring just lying there, pool brilliant .very cold though , i went all inclusive and believe me it is well worth it as the food was edible .they catered for every nationality although there were alot of germans in this hotel who were very rude and ignorant they just pushed you out of the way , but on the hole a fantastic hotel............................................. night life in puerto de la cruz is so quiet around this time of year not many bars with music (.november 2010) went with hubby as it was his birthday ........................................

The hotel was perfectly adequate for our needs as we were on our second holiday of the year and simply wanted to relax in the sun without blowing our budget. If you are looking for four star service you won't get it here and if you want a gourmet experience you will be sadly disappointed. But if you want a clean, modern, comfortable room with a huge bed, a mini bar and a great balcony; situated within easy walking distance of the town, then this is the spot for you.
Some of the staff were lovely and helpful and smiley but others, particularly one of the bartenders at the pool bar, were downright rude and resentful - I don't know whether this was simply directed at "All-inclusive" guests - but there definitely seemed to be a real resentment of guests by some of the staff. Also many of the staff do not understand English sufficiently well for their specific roles - for example it is difficult to order the drink you want from a waiter when that waiter doesn't understand what you are saying!
The Animation team are brilliant - particularly the enthusiastic, funny and slightly mad Raquel..she really made our holiday and got us involved in a way we normally wouldn't! She is worth her weight in gold and works really long and hard!
The pool is clean and its surroundings are well maintained by gardening staff. There are plenty of sunbeds and towels (deposit required) which you can change as many times as you like during the day. There is a house rule that sunbeds should not be reserved in advance and by in large this rule is respected.
The restaurant requires guests to dress appropriately and this rule is strictly enforced - men in shorts are turned away and asked to change into more appropriate clothing - not a bad thing in my opinion. There is plenty of food available and you will never go hungry but I wouldn't say we ever relished meal times as there were quite a lot of choices in the main restaurant but these were largely the same every night. We did exercise our options to eat in the a la carte restaurants on two occasions and this was better than the main restaurant but still not exactly a gourmand's delight! Breakfast was particularly challenging because some of the choices were odd to say the least (caviare, mashed paprika sausages etc..) and on more than one occasion the pancakes tasted fishy - as if the hot plate had not been properly cleaned from the night before...my advice would be stick to boiled eggs and crusty bread!

The San Filipe was just as good , very friendly and efficient staff , rooms very clean . The food seemed to us even better and especially the Gazpacho soup . The roast pork was also excellent , also the fish, freshly cooked and also prepared dishes .....

We never expect much from the entertainment as you are so near to the main town to take a walk and find what is going on there ....

The pool area is lovely and clean with very good pools and surrounded with lovely gardens ... and the sun bed area not crowded ...

late booking all inclusive, £350 each from gatwick through teletext holidays. not a 5 star as advertised on teletext but a nice hotel all the same, well located with a pleasant walk of a few hundred metres to the main area of bars and restuarants.
spotlessly clean and all the staff were very helpful, friendly and hardworking. the only reason i don't give 5 out of 5 is i found the food a bit bland (although both alacartes were very good) and the entertainment a bit weak but both these things are a question of personal taste and a lot of people will have found it spot on.
all in all fantastic value for money

My partner and I have just returned from 10 nights all-inclusive at the San Felipe Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz. We both thought this was a lovely hotel - one of the nicest we have stayed in. The first thing that strikes you is how clean it is - the staff always seem to be cleaning! We asked for, and got, a room at the rear of the hotel overlooking the pool and gardens (also immaculately kept). These rooms get the sun all day and have a great view of Pico del Teide. They are a bit noisy at night though, being above the Lobby Bar. This didn't bother us, but might be an issue for some people. The rooms themselves are a bit on the small side and the bathrooms could be better equipped - ours didn't have a bidet. Again, we thought this a minor issue, as you don't spend much time in your room. The clientele was mainly Spanish, German and British, with Britons probably the least represented. However, everyone was perfectly civil to each other and the Spanish guests were quite polite, which we haven't always found at other hotels. We were expecting an older clientele, but in fact the age groups were mixed, with quite a few young couples. Very few children though, in fact I wouldn't recommend the resort for small children as there is not a lot for them to do. The food was plentiful and varied, in fact there was too much of it sometimes! Our only real gripe was with the Dining Room - although large, it was still inadequate for the number of guests staying and every night you had to queue for the evening meal. In our opinion, they should have two settings. You could usually get a sunbed around the pool, although (as with most hotels) they need more parasols. We thought the hotel was in one of the best positions in the resort, being directly opposite a black sand/shingle beach. This beach didn't seem very popular except for surfers, possibly because the sea here is very rough and not really suitable for bathing. However, this meant that most days we got it almost to ourselves! A different story at night though, when everyone seemed to flock here to sit on the prom and watch the sea. We thought the resort of Puerto de la Cruz was lovely, with a proper Spanish feel to it - which you never get in the Southern resorts. We loved the Old Town, with the little squares surrounded by cafes and the many churches. Beware though, apart from the beach I have mentioned the only other beach is a man-made affair called Playa Jardin which is situated at the other end of the resort, a good 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. Here also, the sea is very rough and rocky underfoot and not suitable for bathing - so if you enjoy swimming in the sea, you might want to choose another resort - or you could use the Lido! We will definitely return though.
