My fiancée and I chose the botanica hotel as it was our first stay in the north of the island. Upon our arrival the staff were amazing, helpful and always on hand should you require anything at all. Main pool area was relaxing but if you really wanted to relax in quiet and I do mean peace and quiet then make full use of the outdoor spa pools. Food is great, no not great, amazing and again nothing is a problem for the staff.
The rooms are very comfortable, a double bed as against two singles pushed together so fall through the middle as you grab a cuddle from your dearest one :-) beautiful views, amazing hotel but please remember, if your looking for anything except relaxation and quiet- go to the south of the island.
A meal out? Can recommend 'Regulo' just behind the old square, serving only the best steak in many a month whilst on holiday. Downside ! Puerto is a place you can see in two days, after that it's the same bar ! We therefore checked out and went to the South for our remaining days
Please understand we had NO problem with the hotel, it's as we say an 'Amazing hotel' and will give the Botanico five stars out of five !
Ps, checked into a 5star in las Americas- not even close to the standard of Botanico but we had to give up the luxury. :-)

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are great and overlook the small putting green area. Would definitely recommend

This is our third time back at the Hotel Botanico and nothing has change it's still a beautiful hotel set in magnificent grounds. Our room is large and on arrival there was fruit wine and flowers in our room as a thank you for returning. What makes this hotel is the staff. The house keeping staff were superb our room always immaculate and they always greeted us with a cheery hello ! Breakfast is excellent with a huge choice and again the staff are exceedingly friendly and courteous. The events organiser - cant remember her name was beyond helpful - she arranged the most memorable whale watching trip and her knowledge and recommendation was first class. The bar in the evening is looked after by the lovely Tania who was so polite and efficient and of course Jose Luis who is the perfect gentleman and always a pleasure to talk to. So any negatives - a few things - the outdoor pool was freezing ! The food in the restaurant was a bit hit and miss and the rooms were superb but missing little touches like tea/coffee making facilities and a sound system - I like my music but not one if these things detracts from what is an amazing place we will be back soon!

The room was comfy and the breakfast excellent with lots of things from freshly made juice mixes to a chef on an egg station doing things from pancakes to omelettes. They also had a small gluten free selection.

The location of the hotel is slightly out of the main town but still walking distance if you can cope with the steep hill back up. They did say they had a shuttle bus but that didn't seem to run too extensively for us to be able to use it. The town is also a bit of a concrete monstrosity and only good for eating out on the sea front. However the hotel is well placed for some of the nearby sites such as el teide (volcano) and nearby villages. Both taxi rides away but I think there are coach trips. We didn't have the time but could easily have got a 10 min taxi to get dropped off to go walking in the hills.

The staff were perfect here in that they organised an English speaking taxi for us and pointed out other sights to see all around the island. However a full day of a taxi taking us around the island was expensive at 160 euros. If flying out of the south airport the guimar step pyramids are quite interesting if you like historical sites and they are only 30 min from airport (can easily spend one or two hours with the audio tour and a drink).

The putting green and pool table in the hotel are also good for a bit of fun. The swimming pool looked reasonable but we didn't use it.

As I say in all my reviews I live here in this beautiful island called Tenerife. I only stay in hotels when my brother comes from the States to visit us. So every year I try a different hotel for him. The staff at the hotel is excellent, always so kind and very helpful. Facilities are nice and the average temperature is ideal most time of the year. Restaurants and food are lovely. But I have to say that I expected more of a 5 star "Grand Luxe" hotel. My brother is 1,90 m tall and in the room the space between the toilet and the shower was very short and made him feel uncomfortable. Don't forget to bring the a/c adaptor plug if you come from the US because the one the had did not work. Wifi connection in the room was poor, tried to Skype with my son who is in England and we couldn't. I am not sure about the Oriental Spa being perfect for total relaxation. They have these great water beds but then you hear all noises from the surrounding streets. Mountain view from the room is beautiful. Hotel is located in a very nice area to walk around and very close to the Botanic Garden that you can visit and enjoy a huge collection of plants.

Room Tip: Mountain view is beautiful

We spent a whole day here, as the guests of friends who have stayed here before and love it. We could easily understand why they and their circle keep coming back. Oddly enough, some of the key ingredients that lure them here we would find on a monastic retreat in rural England.

Very sensibly, our host had forewarned the hotel of our imminent arrival, so there was a helpful staff member on hand to park our car. We hastened to the poolside bar-cafe which was a suitable place to make our base for the day. Our friends prefer the food here to that served upstairs in La Parilla. And it gave us ample opportunity to stroll through the gardens.

The lake was first port of call, with the black swans and their grey young family (which were fluffy cygnets when they were here last). On the lake we also spotted a bustling little moor hen and sunbathing terrapins. The human sunbathers were discreetly scattered on loungers throughout the grounds (mind you, Puerto is the wrong side of Tenerife if you are a real sun-worshiper).

In keeping with the Oriental theme, the Buddha is depicted in statues and paintings all over the hotel. Personally, I would prefer to have St Francis of Assisi (but we had already paid our respects to him at the Franciscan church in the town centre). The loveliest statue of Buddha is almost hidden by nearby trees in the garden.

The Oriental theme is of course strongest in the Spa Garden. Here one enters through heavy 'temple' doors and there are delightful elephant statues and fountains. It is a place of great silence and harmony.

Our eating experience was very pleasant. When we first found a shady table we were entertained by a demonstration of paella making, which was followed by a tasting of the product. Too full of seafood for some of our party, but very tasty. For lunch we had a couple of chickens roasted. They were beautifully succulent. In the afternoon there were little homemade biscuits to accompany coffee.

In the dining area beside where we were sitting there is an aviary, so that over breakfast the guests can watch the tropical birds. They must feel very much at home as there are nests in the shrubbery. Other less exotic birds hang around the cafe tables outside - a very tame blackbird was singing most beautifully while he waited for us to leave crumbs.

We also availed ourselves of the conference facilities, as the football fans wanted to go online for a big match. This was in a computer room, sealed off by glass doors from the 'blissed-out' spa goers who wandered by in white toweling dressing gowns. The same floor had a sort of library, with books well sorted by language.

The shops and eating/drinking outlets in the area round about (i.e. off the TF312) seemed to be aiming primarily at the German market, though there were several local cafes and one English bar. However, if we were staying here longer we would undoubtedly prefer to go down the hill to the town centre.

Across the road is the Jardin Botanico, which we have not yet visited.

To summarise: the Hotel Botanico has all the facilities you would expect of a five-star-plus internationally renowned hotel - and peace and tranquility in green gardens. Whereas the Spa and other pampering facilities may be available in similar hotels in the UK, to get the total ambiance created by the gardens (with the birds, the fish, the lizards etc) and the inspired decor you would have to travel much further afield than Tenerife. And the environment is much safer in Puerto than it would be in some competing worldwide resorts.

A TIP: Go to the Hotel website to check their discount prices (and compare them with the offers of online booking sites). It could save you a significant percentage.
