“Simply The Best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Having stayed here on 15 occasions we rate Botanico as the best hotel we have stayed in in Europe.
General Manager Alirio Perez and his wonderful staff really care that their guests are happy and go to any lengths to please them.
Breakfasts are outstanding although the selection of fresh fruit could be much more varied but that is our only minor criticism.
The Oriental Spa Garden is the perfect place to relax and the treatments and massages are very professionally carried out by a team of pleasant therapists.
We rate this hotel so highly that, having stayed for a total of 84 nights in 2012, we have already booked a total of 100 nights spaced over March,June,September & December in 2013.
It is now our ' second home' and is the ideal place to relax and leave the variable Scottish weather behind.
As the headline says , it's Simply The Best. .

Room Tip: Senator & Ambassador Suites are extremely roomy and well equipped.

We stayed there in October 2012 as we were visiting Tenerife. I also decided and selected this hotel to be the place to secretly propose to my girlfriend at the Best hotel in Canary Island ....let me tell you why? We arrived in the area and we were amazed by the location of this hotel, next to the Botanic Garden and with many choices for lunch/dinner. When you go there, get ready to be well received and lose yourself. The experience was a gem so where to start...Breakfast area is spacious indoor or outdoor with a large variety of foods (cereals, breads, sausages, eggs, juices...) - we went there for at least 2 rounds each. Our room had a very nice view to the outdoor swimming pool and el Teide, welcome package, free water, free fruits...and now the Spa which offers you an indoor/outdoor pool, 4 different saunas, jacuzzis, tea and it's very relaxing, trust me! I spent the entire day there before proposing to my fiancé. This stay was unforgettable for us because we had a very great time and this is the beginning of new adventure for us, thank you!

We have for years overlooked the North of Tenerife as a potential holiday destination fearing cloudy weather could ruin our short break. Fear not, although we had a couple of cloudy afternoons, the sun really does shine here!

We took an 8 day break in early October at the Botanico, and like most reviewers of this hotel we too can confirm that it is a first class hotel.

The hotel is a good 30 minute downhill walk to the main restaurants in the center of town. You will not want to walk back. A taxi will return you to the hotel in less than 10 mins. If you do venture out we highly recommend Tucan (10 min walk from hotel) and Regulo in the main town. Whatever your taste there is plenty of choice including a batch of restaurants minutes from the hotel.

The hotel staff were highly professional, helpful and polite. Our deluxe room was comfortable and well cleaned. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained and give out a relaxed air to the surroundings. There was plenty of choice for breakfast. We ate by the poolside bar most days and there was a reasonable choice although not particularly cheap. Portions were a bit too heavy for a lunch time snack, however the quality of the food was very good.

We recommend using the spa area pool which although smaller was considerably warmer than the main pool. Seating is more spread out but you will need to find a bed before 10.30am not to be disappointed.

We would suggest that this hotel would be best suited for couples or friends who do not have lively full on entertainment as a priority. Those that do not wish to venture too far from the complex have everything they could want to hand including a very good spa and a well equiped gym.

There are many who return to this hotel on regular basis, and this in itself is the best form of recommendation.

We stayed at the Hotel from the 9th to 19th September, having booked it as a package Hoiilday with Thomson. The flight both ways was brilliant, and we were met by a Thomason Rep on arrival that directed us to a waiting taxi all paid for in the package.
It took an hour to get there and as we drove up the driveway lined with palm trees illuminated with small lights, we were not dissapointed. Large statues of Elephants at the entrance and a more than accomodating doorman dressed in a white uniform opened the taxi door and took our cases. Reception was an amazing sight, large spacious and spectacular, you must look at the photos. Breakfast was buffet style and plenty of selection, with eggs being cooked to order.
althought I think Sensatori just beat them by a star for breakfast having more selection and more chefs cooking to order, plus I like looking at the lake at Sensatori, we are going there for Christmas, however this review is about Hotel Botanico. The Japanese garden is spettacular with thousands of koi carp, terapins, ducks, black swans and parrots flying about.
The main swimming pool is old style but nice and I have been told they are shortly updating it.

Our room was a basic one and more than adiquate, in fact luxurios, and nothing was too much trouble.

We arrived late and had a quick drink and went to be, for me the bed was hard and I didn't sleep well. I told reception in the morning and when I went back to my room after breakfast they had already changed the matteress for a softer one. I was impressed. There is also a selection of pillows to suit.

The Spa was something amazing and I did have a couple of treatments, that I thought were very reasonable, even if you don't want any treatments you must visit the spa and be amazed.

before we went people said the noth of the Island was cloudy and sometimes very wet, it could not be further from the truth, during our stay we only had one day of rain and it was refreshing as the temperature was about 28 to 30c and wall to wall sunshine.

I was so impressed I wrote a poem whilst there and the manager will be putting it up somewhere in the Hotel, here it is

TENERIFE OCTOBER 2012

Hotel Botanico

By Mackenzie Moulton

To Tenerife we flew at night
Four hours journey was our flight
And when at last we came to land
A greeting courier was at hand

The night was dark not much to see
The air was scented with palm trees
Much warmer than the land we left
To shout HORA was hard suppressed

To Puerto De La Cruz we had to travel
Through winding roads the car unravelled
At last our destination was in sight
We travelled an hour through the night

Hotel Botanico was our destination
As it came in sight with expectation
Palm trees lit with many lights
Lined the driveway, a glorious sight

The taxi stopped, our door was opened
The Hotel concierge with Spanish spoken
Buenos Noches with a smile
All dressed in white he had great style

The entrance all marble and glass
The foyer and reception vast
The bell boy took cases and very soon
After refreshment we were in our room

We draw the curtains, what a view
Lush palm trees and gardens all about
A swimming pool that glittered blue
In the distance, but now in shroud
Mount Teide poked above the cloud

To stay here we thought of for a while
Not disappointed by it’s grace and style
The staff are friendly every one
As warm and welcome as the sun

Ten days we had in this glorious place
Enjoying the spa and gardens too
The food, the pool and each different race
Who came to Botanico as wise men do

The parrots fly from tree to tree
The Koi carp swim in water green
With turtles, black swans so serene
This is a wonderful place to be

Just returned after a 4 night stay, and we weren't disappointed.
My first review, and just felt the need to leave some feedback ....

Building
We had read a few comments on the building itself being a little dated. I can kind of understand these comments, but you won't be coming to this hotel for a shining White and Stainless Steel facade. Inside, it's tastefully decorated with paintings and statues and interior pieces, sympathetically put together. Each 'area' was immaculately well looked after, you'd struggle to find anywhere a bit run down.

Bedroom
We stayed in a normal deluxe room, to be honest I'm glad we didn't upgrade. The room, as with the hotel was well kept and decorated, and the idea for us was not to stay in the room for our break. A kettle would have been nice, but the well stocked bar was always there ;)
The beds were turned down every night and an itinerary of tomorrow's events were left on the bed each night.

Restaurants
I got fed up of saying, " That was the best Cod/Salmon/Seabass I've tasted" !
Although a couple of the more cantankerous customers seemed to NEED to complain (eg One asked for a Citrus sauce that wasn't meant to accompany her fish and then wondered why she had to wait for it to be made), the food was lovely, freshly cooked, fresh produce and incredibly tasty. The Spanish restaurant was definitely the cosier, tapas would have been nice here ?
Overall, great food, and well done to all the staff for putting up with people who should know better.

Gardens
Said many times before by reviewers, but they do "make" the hotel. The banana trees were a talking point, standing on the bridge watching the terrapins and Koi was also a moment to remember. Again, like the hotel, immaculately kept.

Pool
Although slightly chilly, the sun wasn't too kind to us, so probably not had a chance to heat up. The pool attendants immediately came and put towels on your beds, no one dive bombing, no one screaming, no one saving beds with their towels, just as it should be ... Peace in the sun.
Drinks waiters walking round every 5 mins, so never went short of a few cocktails.

Spa
Oh the massages !
The best money I spent during our visit. Amazing amazing hands, trying to loosen up my back is no easy task, so thank you !
The spa itself is beautiful, including the gardens and swimming pool.

Other bits ...
Half Board definitely worth it.
Would have liked the outside bar area to have a wider choice of snacks.
Sometimes the service for me, personally, was too much. I can pour my own water with my meal, but every time my glass was less than half full it was topped up.
ALL staff were excellent, I would suggest it's an honour to work there.
Activity sheets an excellent idea .. Wine tasting, card games, cocktail making .. Great idea !
News sheets at breakfast a great idea too.
Breakfast is amazing, sure I've put on weight !

And, I think that's about it !
Oh, just a tip on the price ... We booked through CleverHotels, a German company.
I think we paid nearly 900e, which was about 150e cheaper, at least, than UK companies.
I think the price of the euro has strengthened by 20% in the last year or so, but the UK prices have remained the same.

Room Tip: We emailed for a Ocean view, no sun, but great view. Ask for a pool view to get the sun if you want...

Atention of staff at the reception was professional and at the same time very personal and wellcoming. After one day we felt at home.
Our room was very cosy, impeccable and comfy, both bed and bathroom. The balcony, with view of Mt. Teide, and the amazing tropical garden and pool area was a place to be. The decoration of the Hotel is just beautiful, main theme being Asian art (Thailand) and parrots ( Loro Park in town and Siam Park in southern Tenerife being of the same group. You can buy tickets of these parks in the Hotel, both are very special)).
Breakfast is outstanding, we ate in the garden area, in the morning sun near the pool. This might be a bit of a hassle if you are handicapped or very hungry, since the buffet is inside and there are no trays. You may have to walk in-and-out several times before you are all set. But then... you might ask a waiter, and if you know what you want, they´ll bring you just what you need with great kindness.
Every day there are different activities in the Hotel, and the Spa area is an outstanding place to be.
We ate at the Italian and at the Thai Restaurant, both were of excellent quality. There was also a good choice of Canarian wines.
I would definitely recommend this Hotel if you want to stay in Tenerife North.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing south (pool area).

After reading all the reviews we arrived with high expectations – but even those were exceeded. We felt welcome, appreciated and really looked after, something that makes it even more worth the while than just all the standard luxury of a 5 star hotel. People like Antonio and Helena made all the difference: all our requests for my father's 70th birthday were fulfilled expertly, no arrangement proved to be too much (we asked to rent a car for 6 passengers; 40 minutes later we had the car parked in front of the hotel) and when we were not asking we were being asked if anything else could be done for us (but not in a pushy way). The spa is nice (albeit quite small), the gardens gorgeous and the breakfast definitely one to get up for (especially the lovely omelettes, crepes and freshly squeezed juices). We will definitely return should we ever come back to Tenerife.

Room Tip: The Ambassador Suite is very beautiful. If you leave the balcony door open at night you can hear the...
