“Depends on the weather.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

The valley is reputedly very pretty. We descended into it from the Teide National Park. However, there was very low cloud cover and much of the valley was obscured until we were within 15 kilometers of La Orotava, itself.

“Lovely Place”

This is a great place to spend a few hours walking around. Museums and the likes are very good and the gardens are lovely.

“Great photo opportunities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

A good place to visit with some very nice old architecture to see,
It is not far out of Peurto De La Cruz and can be reached by bus. Well worth the visit.

“A must see.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2014

You will at some time see this area if you are in the north for it covers a huge area and most buses go through it or you are in a hotel that looks at it. However as the Canaries are volcanic and Tenerife no longer has water it is dry and unproductive in the main. Scrub and cacti will grow in places left to its own devices but the beauty of this area is that the banana plantations hold strong and have not been completely destroyed by new hotel buildings, so the impression in many places is acres of green with other urbanizations spread around and small fincas. Modern hotels co-exist with sheep herders as they walk their flock to find food and the tourist jumps in the pool. I find it quite a strange juxtaposition. The north of the island has its own micro climate which is sometimes almost tropical but it is the care of the farmers that keeps the land green. You only have to look at old photos of Puerto to realise that there wasn't a prig of grass and no trees until the Spanish brought them here.

“The joy of walking in tropical area .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

If you like a challenge go for a walk from La Caldera and (if lucky ) and with a lot of effort and sure feet enjoy stunning views of Mt Teide and all down the valley.Tree fern hangs from the pines and even if cloud level down when you do get a break the view is worth all the effort
