“Just ok”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

We got a good deal on this hotel, so we can't really complain, but if we had paid full price then I would have been very disappointed. The hotel may have been about four stars in the distant past but is more two star - it is a jaded hotel that caters for pensioners on a budget. Generally the staff are pleasant and helpful. The hotel is fairly clean but not gleaming and generally shabby.

The food is not great and not warm - we avoided most of the meat and chicken as they were of poor quality. The salads were quite good and we found enough to do us -though one week was enough - especially having to queue for food etc as their were a lot of guests in the very large dining room - some of the guests do not understand that they must take their turn - tea and cereal is dreadful.

The hotel is situated outside the town up a fairly steep oceanside hill with no lights at night - the hotel is not accessible via this road after 9pm and the only way in is via the main door up a very steep hill - this does not encourage guests, especially elderly ones , to leave the envrons of the hotel in the evening which can be boring as their is only basic entertainment in the evening - though probably adequate for some of the elderly guests. Beds and pillow very uncomfortable - bring your own toiletries as they are not great

Room Tip: Ask for a room at level 10 or above and away from lifts

The room is pretty big with 2 double beds. The facilities in the room are a little old but functional. You have old TV an empty mini bar ( just 2 free mineral water ). No facilities for heating water - tea/coffee... The bathroom big and pretty clean. Big balcony with nice see view ( except 1st floor ) but with no sun at all ( north side ). A + for the winter - they have wooden floor in the room, not cold stone floor. Outside of the room. 4 elevators usually free but very busy at breakfast/lunch time. Floor 14 with heated pool+whirlpool and gym. The pool ok but chlor smell and many old people in it so better go in the ocean/Martianez. Floor 15 outside unheated pool, nice, big, clean but cold in winter times. Restaurant pretty crowded but you find a place at any hour. The food excellent and complete. Nothing bad to say about food execept coffee at breakfast - horrible/instant coffee. The staff tries to be polite but they are a little understaffed and over with the requests of old german&english groups so don't expect to be served on time with all you need. In restaurant take all you need by yourself because it's easy, not wait for the waiter for every little thing; try to clean your table after you eat, it's not hard and will be apreciated.

The big - is that the hotel has 5 stars and doesn't deserve them. It's a pretty good hotel with good value for money, no big complaints from me but the facilities and the services are not 5 stars. So, if you start with this in mind you will have no problems. Also if you are young expect to be a minority of maximum 25% ( we traveled in winter ) but this will be no problem if you come to see the island and enjoy the ocean, not to stay in the hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room as high as possible

The Best Semiramis is a fine hotel - not fabulous, but not terrible. Certainly not five star though.

We were on the second floor so very close to the road, but this was not an issue for us at all. The more annoying thing was the light in the garden that was at room height! Unless we had the doors open we didn't notice the traffic noise at all - try sleeping in a hotel in London and you'll soon realise how quiet this place is!

We stayed on a B&B basis and were glad not to be all inclusive. There are some lovely restaurants in Puerto de la Cruz and judging by the standards of the breakfast buffet I was glad to be missing out on the evening meal. The breakfast was fine, but nothing more. Some reviews have commented on it being out of the centre, but we found this to be of an advantage - it was a lovely walk down to the town and it helped us find an excuse to eat more of the lovely local Canarian food :)

Our stay at Best Semiramis was perfectly adequate, and as we got it in a last minute offer I feel like we got what we paid for. Otherwise I would have been disappointed with it.

Returned yesterday from a very relaxing stay. Staff were most attentive. For example, we lost touch of the time and arrived at the restaurant too late for our evening meal. everything had been cleared away. A few moments after returning to our room, without us asking, a tray of cold meats, salad, fruit, cakes and a bottle of wine arrived! I was so impressed. Reception staff went the extra mile and were eager to offer a fantastic service with a smile. All rooms, with the exception of the first floor, have a wonderful view of the sea, moutains and town. We choose to stay all inclusive for a few days. This was far cheaper than buying lunch, drinks and snacks independently.

Like many reviewers I was on a Saga island hopping holiday and this was the poorest of the 4 hotels used. But the odd thing is why Saga should use this hotel at all which is out of town, on the top of a cliff and with a long and steep walk into the town. Even using the hotel lifts its still a drag to get to the very attractive sea front and town centre. The nearest bus stop is 500m away and the so-called courtesy bus only runs once a day. If the inconvenience of the site is not enough the food was not what I would call "excellent" as other recent reviewers think. OK with the inevitable buffet there is a fair amount of choice but the meat dishes were usually tough and tasteless and not particularly hot - that goes for the soup as well (i.e. temperature -wise). The restaurant service could also be improved - plates were not cleared promptly from the tables and you had to be prepared for a long wait for service in the bar. I suppose that's the penalty you pay for "all-inclusive". Whilst some of the younger staff were OK the oldies (not the Saga guests !) were generally a miserable bunch with ne'er a smile between them. If you're staying in Puerto de la Cruz there are nicer places down on the sea front and even Saga clients would be much better choosing the hotel the company uses down there.

Other reviewers have commented on the busy road below the hotel. On our visit the crashing Atlantic rollers rather drowned out the traffic noise. This is the penalty you pay for the sea views which all rooms in this hotel have.

Room Tip: There all on the front - sea side but the higher the floor the less traffic and wave noise.

Have just returned from an excellent weeks stay at the the hotel with my wife.
Excellent food with great variety and lovely attentive staff. Regular visitor at this time of year enjoy walking trips which we were invited along to one day and really enjoyed.
The Hotel rooms and facilities are more than adequate though i would question the 5 star status..
As the hotel is on the side of a mountain reception is floor 16... and floor level 1 where we were is affectionately known by regular visitors as the dungeon... as it has NO VIEW at all. SO Request a room above level 3 at least for a spectacular view of the sea.
If you hire a car get a Sat Nav or a GOOD road Atlas... Local guide Maps don't have enough detail and you may miss your turn off and get lost for a little while. Hahaha...

The hotel has five stars. It should have four at the most. Excellent view but you could hear the waves loud and clear all night. The bed and the low pillow were very hard causing musclepain.
The television was old and small with a lousy reception. The food however was excellent, both breakfast and dinnerbuffé. Clean room, nice surroundings. A small refrigirator where you could
put food and drinks that you could buy close by. The hotel faces north which meant no evening
drinks in the sun on the balcony. It was quite windy and cold. Located above the city centre you have to go up and down a lot of stairs and hills. They charge if you want to use a public laptop
in the reception. Nice area outdoors with several possibilities to take a swim or sunbathe.

Room Tip: Choose a rooom high up in the building.
