This castle is located at the seafront in Arrecife and is accessed via either of the two long bridges which protrude out to sea from the town (one has a drawbridge). It’s open Tues - Saturday 9.00am - 2.00pm (free admission) and as we visited the area on a Monday we didn’t get access to the interior where exhibitions are apparently held. It’s none the less worth a stroll out for a look and a photo if you are staying in, or visiting Arrecife.
The current structure was built in 1590 on the site of an earlier fort in response to frequent pirate raids on the town. It’s a solid looking building and possibly had more than the two old cannons, now positioned outside, to fortify it in days gone past.
