I've just reviewed this on another part of the website called Timanfaya Sub... and now found this, so I must have been in the wrong place..anyway, here goes again. The drive through the National Park was the best part of this trip for us, the scenery is fantastic and quite unlike anything we've ever seen, you can't come to Lanzarote and not see this. The drive up to the top is ok but once up there it's very touristy with hundreds of people all trying to see the men light a fire and create steam from the volcano. Parking for us was interesting, we were guided to a space on a steep slope and had to park sideways on it, it took a bit of manoeuvring as the road was a bit on the narrow side but we managed. The most interesting part for me was to see the way they cooked the food over the heat from the ground just outside the restaurant! I suppose the best way to see it all is to take a tour but as we had a hire car we did it ourselves, we bought a voucher enabling us to visit here and 3 other sites on the island which save a bit on admission.
