We recently spent 4 fabulous days in this elegant palace hotel full of history. All the public areas are spotlessly clean and decorated in glamorous style. Service is impeccable and friendly. It is very rare to have a turn down service at nights, this hotel has it and I love it!
Especially the staff in the reception is fabulously friendly and ready to help you. This hotel is full of charm and old world glamour. The pool area, spa and garden are lovely too.
I went to see other 5 star hotels in Las Palmas:
Christina: lobby looked like a hospital, very modern but cold atmosphere
Reina Isabel: Ok, but bit 70's style
AC marriott: location is on a shady street, small and dark lobby
Compared to these Santa Catalina is a beautiful oasis of a hotel with lot of charm.

+ really beautifully decorated
+ friendly staff
+ great breakfast
+ lovely pool area
+ luxurious toiletries
+ turn down service

- room was lovely ( 126 ) with a huge terrace, but a bit noisy
- service in the lovely pool area did not match the main building, bit slow

Gracias ha sido un gran placer!

Room Tip: If you want BIG terrace ask for 126. It is a standard room with king bed, but much bigger than norma...

Just back from a week's stay at this hotel, and a very happy, sunny week. The hotel is ideally located in a formal park, with lots of fountains and a "pueblo" next door where there is folk dancing on Sunday mornings. The hotel's structure is picturesque Canarian with deep wooden balconies, and spacious public areas. Our room was large and comfortable though with limited drawer space - excellent plumbing, and efficient housekeeping. The big breakfast room was busy, the breakfasts ample and varied. Our only niggle was the queue for the coffee machines - hard to understand why a hotel of this standard with a high staffing ratio does not serve coffee at the table. We dined in the hotel once - expensive but imaginative cooking, not very good service, but the marina is a short stroll away and has some excellent restaurants. If we ever went back to Gran Canaria, we would happily return to the Sta Catalina.

Room Tip: We had an excellent room on the front, but on Fridays and Saturdays there is a nearby night club bas...

Unfortunately I’m a bit late in writing review as stayed November 2012! Stayed 3 nights pre cruise, lovely traditional hotel, plenty of history, superb grounds, buffet breakfast good (didn’t eat in restaurant), freshly squeezed orange juice (so rare these days) plus Cava if you wanted a Bucks Fizz. We thought drinks prices were good especially as in a hotel, costs more than bars etc but not extortionate like many hotels (sorry can’t remember prices). We had a large double room although we ended up with single beds it didn’t matter, only complaint there were no drawers & very little wardrobe space even for a traditional hotel, there was an area to put suitcases on by door where they could have put a 2nd wardrobe, nice bathroom with a separate toilet but it was in the bathroom behind a door, most strange, lovely shower & toiletries. Some guests didn’t like the hotel due to the position, it is in between the old & new town, both being around a 20 min walk, although it’s easy to get a taxi if wanted as lots available in the hotel car park. The old town (turn right outside) is lovely with its Cathedral, historic buildings and designer shops! We much preferred it to the newer area which had large department stores and plenty of bars & restaurants, but each to their own.
Behind the hotel is a public park which is lovely and peaceful and has a natural huge fish pond, with fabulous Coi Karp and others, we fed them with bread from breakfast and they all swam over. I would defiantly recommend this hotel and would stay again but personally only for a few days, due to wardrobe & position.
tip search prices we had what we thought was a good price £300 b&b 3 days, especially cruise line wanted £333 for 1 night!

Room Tip: ask for one with a balcony as not all have them.

This hotel rmeinds me of some of those Chateaux in France which were once the homes of the gentry but had fallen into semi-ruin and opened up as B&B Pensions. They were often in historic buildings and wonderful estates, but the accommodation was basically a bit better than a well decorated Youth Hostel. The charges for those Pensions were of course very modest. This hotel charges very high prices indeed. The mini bar prices are set at London West End levels and int he bar downstairs a quite awful housewine costs over €20 a bottle. A glass of bottled orange juice was €4 plus tax. Service in this lovely terrace bar was sour. I took tea one afternoon and asked for cold milk. It eventually came after two reminders and some very sour looks, but by the time it came my tea was cold. My room was spacious

Friendly service, clean rooms, convenient free parking in underground garage, ok spa/gym/pool/sunbathing facilities. Rooms are drab and in bad need of a total makeover. Beds are hard and uncomfortable. Breakfast is nice enough, but nothing special, and the choice of fruits and vegetables is disappointing. The location inside the Doramas park is peaceful and beautiful, but the local area around the hotel is boring with nothing much going on at all. You will depend on taxi (ca. 4-5 EUR) to go to the Vegueta/Triana area or the Canteras beach - walking takes 20-30 minutes along streets that are not particularly pedestrian friendly. Despite the shortcomings, the hotel still maintains a certain grandeur and style, and seems to be frequented mainly by middle-aged to elderly, well-to-do locals and foreigners. If you prefer a party atmosphere, or to wear your flip-flops and bermudas everywhere, this may not be the hotel for you.

This is a lovely world charm hotel in Las Palmas , we have just come back from this hotel it is perfect for a few days loved the ambience and history , you really feel the past here lovely terrace The staff are very nice and could not be more helpful and friendly. Be warned the pool is not heated and is cold in the winter months.
The rooms are old but that's the charm. We would definitely stay here again.
Las Palmas is really up and coming city also the locals are friendly food is cheap real Spain , and it has a top beach in Las canteras.
