I'm also very late with a review having only just stumbled across tripadvisor whilst researching a holiday location, so thought I'd add my experience at the Nevada Apartments.
Rather than choose the Nevada Apartments, we selected an allocation on arrival of min 2* SC hotel in Puerto Rico. We weren’t too fussed where we stayed so long as we were in Puerto Rico. Wasn’t too sure why as my parents were broken into whilst they were here and had money and passports stolen (my Dad was actually asleep leaning on the table and some thieving git actually came in and nicked his bum bag off the table laying front of him – I thought it was criminal owning a bumbag anyway!!!)
So we arrive at the Nevada Apartments - honestly first impression was 'oh dear', but once we got out of the bus, and up to the reception, it wasn't that bad at all. I think it may just have been the snob in me to be honest. There was a shop in the hotel selling the essentials at a reasonable price, as well as a bar serving drinks and snacks, again at a reasonable price.
We had a room on the 5th floor, first impression of the room, not the best about, but it had an average kitchenette, nice lounge, decent sized bathroom, good sized double bedroom and a very big balcony. Standing on the balcony, the view over Puerto Rico was fantastic (see travellers photos). My only gripe is there was no aircon and there was a charge for a fan (14 euros), safe (20 euros) and TV (approx 1 euro for 10 minutes), although charging for these is common place.
We were ideally suited for a walk down to the Commercial Centre (about 180 steps - everytime we counted them it seemed to be a different number), the beach was 10-15 minutes slow walk. As a couple, we couldn’t have really asked for more.
We made the most of the excursions on offer (Sioux City, Puerto de Mogan, Aqualand) plus used the water taxi to go and have lunch at Arguinigan (a small fishing port). We visited a few bars (Harleys, Lineker’s, Covent Garden) and a few restaurants (try El Toro for superb steak and San Miguel for a kicking paella), but generally wandered around and did as we pleased.
Only real problem we heard of was a couple of apartments were broken into whilst we were there – a young couple who we got chatting to and were directly below us lost their money, cards and passports. Another family had their safe door ripped open and lost money, cards, passports and the kids PSP and DS. When I mentioned this to my parents, they stated that when they got robbed, they were staying in the Nevada to.
I've now got to say, after my first impressions, the Nevada really did grow on me - travelling around Puerto Rico, I think we got a very good location albeit not the best looking hotel, but this didn't really bother me. Ok the hotel was dated, although I believe there is some work going on there now, but I definitely wouldn't have any problem with staying here again.
Good points:-
Good location for the whole of Puerto Rico
Massive balcony
Friendly staff
Reps were always on hand (Connor, you’re da man)
Pool area wasn’t overly busy
Bad points:-
Can be noisy when you have the windows open because it’s too hot
Sorry to say, but for some people, security
174, no 178, no 185, no…a lot of steps when you’re drunk (although this could be a good point because it does sober you up).
