Just returned from a relaxing & chilled week in the Port Hotel, Ciutadella, on the lovely island of Menorca. Having chosen this hotel for it's modern style, location & laid back vibe, aimed at an adult clientele, we're happy to report that it ticked the boxes for all of the above. The staff were excellent with nothing appearing to be too much trouble to them. The food on offer in the restaurant buffet was plentiful & of a good standard. The restaurant waiting staff are very helpful & courteous and work exceptionally hard. I feel the SET hotel management, who operate this hotel, could provide extra waiting staff to assist customers & staff alike. We had a huge and lovely room to the back of this compact & modern hotel (Rm 223). Friends used the gym & indoor pool. Sadly, we didn't. However, they commented it was adequate. The pool area was in keeping with the hotel, modern & minimalist, with plenty of sun loungers.Sadly, it was the British customers who were up early to bag a sun lounger! This only happened with the odd few guests. Never the less, it was unnecessary, as there were enough loungers to go around and most guests adhered to the hotel rule of no reservation of sun loungers. The pool area was peaceful & a suntrap! However, it would have been nice to have some low key, relaxing chill out music playing to take away the clinical feel to the poolside environment. The clientele at this hotel are mainly sensible European couples-British, German,Scandinavian & Spanish, including locals from the island- of all ages, which speaks volumes about this hotels deserved excellent reputation. A short stroll, either via a lovely coastal walk (20mins) or via the inland streets (10mins) brings you to the fascinating & beautiful old town of Ciutadella itself. We loved this town, especially the streets around the Cathedral and Port area.Very beautiful, especially for drinks or a meal at sunset or in the evening when the day trippers have gone back to their hotels. It's been 25 years since our previous visit to Menorca. The island is special & still has a quality & relaxed feel to it, so long as you avoid the man made, characterless, purpose built resorts dotted around the island. Choosing to stay at the Port Hotel, in Ciutadella, will help you relax and feel close to a stunning & compact town that oozes charm, warmth & genuine hospitality. We would return and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends or family who were looking for a relaxing & calming holiday in modern surroundings close to a spectacular setting & old town. Don't go if you're looking for riotous nightlife. Nights out are quiet, chilled & laid back. We opted for half board on this occassion as it was on offer at an incredible price for the plentiful, quality & varied selectionn of food in the hotels restaurant. However, although more expensive, their are numerous excellent quality & authentic restaurants dotted around town & close enough to the hotel. We loved this hotel, its staff, location, facilities & food. Hope you do too. Go & enjoy if for yourself.
