“Super Family Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Calan Bosch in Menorca is a beautiful place to visit, it is relaxed, safe for families and has a super beach with lovely golden sand and shallow, clear waters. In August 2012 we stayed at the Aldea Cala n Bosch for two weeks on a half board basis, our famiy consists of two adults and two children aged 10 & 14. Our apartment was very clean, had a larger than average balcony (views over the quiet road and onto Son Xoriguer) and had air con (which you will need when the temperature rises). The pool areas were well maintained, a life guard is available for part of the day, plenty of sun beds, but the hotel did seem to lack sun umbrellas. The communal areas were clean and inviting, staff on reception extremly helpful and free Wi Fi in the reception area was a bonus (especially for the teenagers who seemed to make full use of this facility). The restaurant served an outstanding selection of food at all mealtimes and we happily tried lots of dishes. There is always plenty of salad, cold meats and fresh fish too. And although the restaurant got busy, we enjoyed the food and being amongst the hustle and bustle. Staff are attentive and always on hand to help, going out of their way to make sure guests are happy. The hotel mainly appears to accommodate German, Dutch and Spanish families, we were one of only a handful of English families and as our german is minimal, we did feel a bit isolated, having said that, many overseas families do speak some english. The hotel offers a childrens club, suitable for children 8 and under, although everyone is made to feel welcome. The entertainer did try to round up children during the day to join in her activities, but most families just wanted to relax by the pool or go to the beach. Overall, we had a splendid holiday, the hotel was good value for money, it is right on the beach and we'd definetly return to the same hotel. Should you wish to do S/C there are lots of restaurants and bars around the marina, which offer a wide selection of food. If you get a chance to vist Menorca, do consider this resort/hotel if you want a quiet, safe, relaxing holiday enjoying the beach/pool and just letting the world pass you by.

Room Tip: Many first floor rooms appear to benefit from wonderful views over to the beach/sea.

Family with two kids (8 months and 3,5 years), parents and grandparents spent a week in Aldea Cala'n Bosch late August. It was very hot, but the pool and sea helped cool us down. Spacious apartments with air condition, which proved to be a must since temperatures were in the mid to high 30's Celcius the whole week. Our room faced the road, but with very little traffic, that was no problem. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and always smiling. The facilities were also well kept and very clean. One down-side was that we didn't get a room on the ground floor, so we had to haul the trolleys up and down a narrow staircase to get to and from our room. The beds were also a bit too hard for our liking. The pools were not crowded and our oldest daughter loved it in the kid's pool, 35cm deep, all day. No problem getting sun beds and parasolls for the whole family by the pool, but we had to go early to the beach if we wanted to get sun beds there. The sea was a bit too rough for our children, with waves constantly washing up the beach, so we spent most of our time in the pools. The hotel is situated close to the village center, with a lot of nice restaurants and shops. All in all a wonderful stay, and I wouldn't mind going back.

Everything was perfect, the apartment size is good, the food was the best (the breakfast and the dinner) . The breakfast was a huge free buffet and the dinner, also, amazing food. You also can choose some special meat /fish/burger and they do it on the moment. The treatment of the employees was nice, they were polite and werealways smiling.
Located just in front of the beach, with 2 swimming pools. I got a 4-persons apartments and there was a big balcony with sea view, super beautiful.

The beach in front of the hotel is also super great, with thin white sand and blue sea.

The hotel style is also nice because even though it is a big hotel, the apartments are distributed in "small white houses", like Menorca's style.

I would recommend there and I wish I'll be back as soon as posible.

We, a family with 2 kids (11 and 15), spent a week at Grupotel Aldea late June. We had a super nice premium apartment with seview from a big balcony, where we enjoyed having dinner in the evenings. (Two super markets just around the corner, to buy groceries from). The pool areas in the hotel are relaxed and not crowded at all. Just a few steps away there are a couple of small beaches and a beutyfully located track is passing by one of the beaches taking us further into the wildness of rocks and the blue sea. The personel in the hotel are very friendly, Cala´n Bosch is great located if you have a car and want to explore the island. We will come back and stay in this hotel, to further explore the island Menorca:)!

Took a hit and hope with this place having never been to Menorca and rarely go on package deals. Overall, very impressed in terms of what we hoped for. We have two young children but didn't want a noisy family environment and this place was very child friendly and pretty laid back / low key in terms of families. We had a two bed apartment on the ground floor. Initially disappointed it was on the road side but actually the road is very quiet all day long so it wasn't an issue. It also allowed us to be out of the sun for a couple of hours during mid-day break. Half board, really friendly resort staff. Great pools. Heaps of sun beds although they were a little close together Tips = ask for a pool view / beach view if you wanted South facing rooms away from the road; double bed was small and the room looked like a converted garage so we put the kids in the double and we had the twin. Not sure why the double was small? Twin beds were fine. Supermarket literally across the road and very well equipped; food was very good in restaurant although a little repetitive over a week. We certainly didn't think there were queues at the hot plates nor did children graze. I would rather wait a couple of minutes and have my food cooked fresh than otherwise. Salads all fresh and plenty of choice at breakfast - again eggs and pancakes cooked freshly etc. Beach towels can be hired for the week - no charge other than a deposit so you could leave large towels at home. Beach was 50 yds away down a path from the bar area - very clean; pretty busy but shallow water and very clear. Beaches had life guards patrolling all day which was good to see. Ents officer in the hotel was great - she tried her best with pool games and mini disco each night. Again, nothing in your face. An hour a day or so. Not many English, plenty of Germans; Scandinavians and Dutch. Mainly families with young children - predominantly pre school. My 4 year old could tocuh the bottom of the large pool which was great as we played ball all day. Pool was very deep though at one end (strangely where the steps were). Overall, worthy 4 stars. Rooms were spacious but I agree with a little musty smell at times + smells of cleaning fluid. Open the windows - it soon went. Very tempted to go back next year.....

Room Tip: Overlooking pool = South facing although rooms at the front (alongside road) were shadier and not at...

Second year of returning to the Aldea Cala'n Bosch - Maybe it was room positioning, maybe it was the weather or maybe it was the number of children, or a combination of those and other factors but this years holiday did not come up to scratch.
We asked for a pool/sea view room on first floor by the main pool and were given one of the few 2nd floor rooms, which as OAPs having to climb 33 steps to get in and out of our room could have been better.
The quantity of the food was the same but there was considerably more cook to order pieces of meat, poultry and fish which meant a queue formed stopping anyone else from reaching the hot dishes of pasta etc. We found you either had to eat early as soon as possible when the restaurant opened for dinner to achieve hot food, which seemed to be a noisy free for all - Why do some families let their children graze at the buffet counter taking food from the serving dishes and eating it there without taking a plate etc to serve themselves ? Or you ate later when the restaurant was less crowded but the food was generally cold by then. Their hot serving dishes do not work well.
My main gripe with the hotel was not enough umbrellas to sunbeds around both pools. By the main pool we counted 100 sunbeds and 20 umbrellas.

The best part of our holiday was having a hire car which we used to explore some of the remote beaches, which were fantastic.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms will not have seaview because of trees and hedge line. If you don't want to...

Just returned from a week at the Grupotel Aldea and had a great time.
Hotel was very clean, staff very friendly and helpful and pool area and grounds well kept.
Majority of guests seemed to be German/Swedish or Spanish, though there were a few Brits around.
We were upgraded to a 2 bed apartment - so loads of room as there were only 2 of us staying. Maid service 5 days a week, mostly excellent, though 1 day seemed to be a little rushed and only half done.
Only downside's with our apartment were the second bedroom was very dark, and there was a distinctly musty smell that seemed to transfer to clothing and towels - Kitchen facilities very limited - 2 ring hob and very slow microwave - Kettles and toasters available for hire - but at €15.00 each a week were a little expensive.
Were half-board, but only ate once in the evening - choice seemed good as was the quality.
Breakfast quite varied - all fresh.
Pool had loads of sunbeds - always available so not the usual 'towelling' .
Access directly onto the beach was very handy - though small amount of seaweed issues made the beach less appealing. Nice beach Cafe with toilets though.
The walk to the marina was only 5 minutes - large selection of bars and restaurants available - not too busy when we were there at all, though probably not the case peak season.
Highly recommend 'Chaplins' for a night out - basically a bar with good quality and cheap food - ate there 3 nights so can't give a better recommendation than that! - Maria and the crew could not do enough to please their customers. (Chaplins also have a cig machine).
On the whole highly recommended - would definitely go back.
