“Lovely quiet holiday and great for small kids.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We stayed for 14 nights at Cales de Ponent from 13 to 27 July 2013. It was a real leap of faith - have never done a package/all inclusive holiday before - but it was great.

We arrived late, 11pm with young children and the staff had very kindly packed us a couple of bags of food to take back to the apartment.

The hotel is fairly small which suited us and quiet too. There was some entertainment on Friday nights but apart from that nothing in the evenings - again this worked for us. Our daughters are 4 and 6. I felt happy letting them wonder round by themselves and they made some great friends and have even kept in touch with them since we've been home. Pen pals for life i've been told!

The pool is fairly small with a separate shallow bit for small kids. There were plenty of loungers to go round.

There is a kids club from 5.30 to 7.30pm. The kids had fun but came home covered in paint which I have failed to get out of their clothes so put them in old clothes when they go!

Ciutadella is only 5 mins away in a cab which is cheap 5/6 Euros each way. The city is beautiful and has lots of good restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. We visited 3 times - try and go on market day. We also took a trip to Mahon - about 45 mins away. Not as beautiful but still interesting.

The hotel was really clean and the food was incredible. Beautiful seafood paella, salads, fish etc etc with wine/beer and juice on tap. All inclusive drinks are from 10 til 10 but this was fine. You do tend to get served own label drinks rather than the branded ones. We ate out a few times even though we were all inclusive and the food didn't match up to what was on offer in the hotel.

The staff were amazing. They kissed and hugged our children the day we left, asking us to come back next year. The rooms are small but adequate and are cleaned every 2nd day. it was seriously hot, 35 degrees and there is no A/C but there is a ceiling fan in the main bedroom and you can ask for a small fan for the room.

The beach is a couple of mins walk away with a great restaurant up the cliffs with a diving board to dive into the sea. There is also a shop and a supermarket 2 mins walk away if you go half board.

We took a couple of boat trips and were able to snorkel and swim from the boat. Reception is helpful in booking trips or pointing you in the right direction.

This is not the place for people who want to go clubbing every night but if you want a great quiet family holiday (especially if you have young children) this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the pool area if you want quiet. Guests tended to congregate by the pool fo...

Just back from a week at the Cales De Ponent with 2 friends and 2 10 year olds. Welcoming and friendly with fabulous staff and exceptional food. Quiet of a night but Cala Blanca and its livelier drinking places are only a 15-20 minute walk away. Will definately be going back.

Hotel is spotlessly clean.Room was of an adequate size with good facilities. Staff were all very friendly especially Tatiana. The rooms could do with a/c but they did provide fans free of charge. The all inclusive restaurant was air conditioned and the food was excellent, the best A/I I have sampled with plenty of choice each meal. The only downside was for vegetarians , not much more than salad I'm afraid. All food was well prepared with beer/wine/soft drinks on tap. The hotel was 1 min walk from a lovely beach. The only downside to the hotel is there is no evening entertainment apart from Fri nights. Therefore most residents are in bed by 11pm. As a side issue pre-booked a hire car in UK with Goldcar. Paid for extra insurance but when arrived to pick car up had hard sell for more insurance with the threat of upto a 2000 euro penalty on credit card, felt had no choice as Goldcar are situated away from the airport,so they have you !!! Don't book Goldcar you have been warned !! But enjoy the hotel and the beautiful scenary of a lovely island. Do make a trip to Cala B'osh and the fort in Mahon.

Hello, stayed in this Hotel for 14 days, two adults and 2 kids 7 and 12 years. The place is very calm and quiet zone of menorca, near to beach of santandria, just 2 minutes walking, the beach is not 100% good for Menorca, cause you have alot better beaches around the island, this one is small and sometimes smells not very nice, we went with all inclusive but i think half board is better cause ALL INC is not like in other hotels ive stayed, it start from 10:00 to 22:00 then you have to pay, water is not included, you have to pay for a bottle of water! On afternoon you only can eat from 17:00 and only a few sandwishs, when is over is over, they not put more food for costumers what i think its not ok, in restaurant food is ok, but the better food you have a person to serve you and you cant eat a quantity that you want. The rest of food , like potatos and vegetables and drinks you can eat all you want. The staff is incridble simpathic, i think its the best point of this hotel, a Special Thanks to Joan that works in Bar, very very nice and simpathic guy and truly professional. Overall i liked the hotel its calm, if you want relax its the right place to come. Rent a car and go to the best beach around that is Son Saura, just 10 minutes away from hotel.

You are in for a treat.
We recently stayed at Club Cales from 12th to 25th July, this was our second time there. Upon our arrival we were greeted in reception by Sara and Caroline (Speedy) totally professional in every respect. Paperwork quickly done off to our apartment.
This time we stayed all inclusive and the food was delicious and outstanding. Virtually every day for the main meals there was fresh paella, steak, pork, lamb chops, crab, langoustines, prawns, salad, salmon a huge range of fresh fruit all wonderfully presented and served . The breakfasts were of equal quality; freshly cooked bacon, eggs anyway you wanted, toast and a range of continental meats and cheeses and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea, fruit juice in the mornings and wine or beer in the afternoon and evening. The head Chef Antonio was always ready to cook you something if there was nothing on the menu you liked. He was a master of his craft. Presentation was superb as was the service provided by Tamarra and Flo in keeping the restaurant spotless at all times. Always smiling and always happy to see you.
The bar also provided first class service and was open until 11pm most evenings. Juan the bar man was always helpful and courteous and could do the most amazing cocktails.
The pool and surrounding areas were cleaned every day with ample sun beds and parasols.
Towels and bedding were changed every other day and the apartment cleaned thoroughly. The room was nicely furnished and bathroom was clean and modern. Although the only cooking facilities are two gas rings you can obtain a microwave, toaster, electric kettle from reception at the cost of a returnable deposit.
If you just wanted to stay B&B you could always have a meal in the restaurant, including drinks for 15 Euros per person children half price.
The previous year we had stayed B&B and the food in restaurants in the towns was very expensive; 30euros per person; and was not particularly good, with nowhere near the choice, quality or service.
This hotel is a gem in every way; the staff are like a small family, friendly, courteous, approachable and willing to advise you on everything from best beaches, car hire, bike hire and places to visit on the island. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

We stayed here between the 7th and 21st of July. It's a perfect place for families. The best unexpected feature is the staff. The receptionists, chefs and waiters are just great. They are all very friendly and committed to make sure you have a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. The food in the restaurant was very good, the apartment had everything we needed, the swimming pool was nice and the overall place is really well organized. We were several families and a few couples. I would say that after the 15th of July the number of hosts were multiplied by 4 or 5 compared to the previous week, but that was the same on the beaches or roads, I would say that Minorca after the 15th of July is really full of tourists. The location is nice, it's near Cala Santandria which is not that wonderful actually and a bit smelly, but if you rent a car you can get to the most beautiful bays on the south or north of the islands in averagely 30 minutes. Again, this place is highly recommended for families.

We stayed from the 2nd - 10th June 13 and we were very impressed overall. they were hot on keeping the place clean and tidy and we were very pleased with the restaurant ( food/layout/staff etc was exceptional ). The pool was clean, quiet and safe for young children, always plenty of sun beds to choose from. With the beach being just 2 mins walk away it is very easy to swap between the two. The rooms are clean and have everything that you would need in them, they were always cleaned, beds changed ect and couldn’t fault them. We had to stay longer due to our youngest getting the Chicken pox and the reception staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We were unable to stay there as they were full but they put us in their sister apartments just 5 minutes away, with help moving, no rushing us with payment etc. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would say is that this place is only for you if you are looking for a quiet holiday with absolutely nothing to do except relax. There is no entertainment for children or adults at all ( other than the small kids room between 5.30-7.30 weekdays with a nice lady who does face painting etc ). The all inclusive finishes at 10 which is very early however with young children ( 4 & 2 ) we were not too concerned. A 20 minute or so walk to Cala Blanca is defiantly worth it as there are some lovely bars, shops and views of the sunset. I would defiantly go back here whilst my children are small enough not to want a livelier resort.
