We visited in June/July 2009.
This was our second visit to La Quinta in two years.
We always said we’d never do the same Hotel twice, as you think it will not be as good the second time around – well we were wrong. La Quinta was just as good as we’d remembered.
I’d read some of the reviews on Tripadvisor and was slightly worried, but we found no fault with the hotel.
When entering the Hotel it was like we’d never been away.
Reception staff are polite & efficient.
Everywhere was spotless and just as we’d left it in 2007.
Our room was lovely, top Floor as requested. Towels changed twice per day, except once on Sunday. Air con set to 10 and left on all night - a refreshing sleep was has by all.
There where ample Beds and Umbrellas around the pool with no Towels on Beds at 06:00am nonsense. The Pool is not heated and for good reason, it cools you down when you get too hot sunbathing– excellent.
There is Waiter Service around the Pool from 12:00 to late afternoon.
I had read on some reviews that they were charging 25 Euros each per day to use the Spa. The Spa (Indoor Pool, Jacuzzi, Plunge Pool, Sauna, Steam Room) are free to use for all guests. Guests only pay for the special treatments. Non-Guests who wish to use the Spa (I never met any) pay 25 Euros per Day to use the Spa facilities plus the cost of Spa Treatments. So get your Hotel supplied robe and slippers on, go to the Spa, ask the lovely Ladies who run the Spa for one of their Spa Towels, enjoy the facilities and put the used Towel in the Basket as you walk out of the Spa. Then go and have a nice lie down before your Evening Meal.
The Food was delicious. Breakfast consists of a Buffet which caters for all tastes: Fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit, bread, preserves, cheeses, cold cooked meats, Bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, mushrooms, cakes, sparkling wine, tea or coffee.
If you want an omelette just ask the Waiter.
Evening Meal, except for Gala Night, was four Courses – Soup (two choices), Salad (make up your own from the buffet of over 30 items), Main course (5-6 choices) and sweet (Ice-cream, sorbet, fresh fruit or cakes).
Gala Night was six courses from a set menu, I wouldn’t have chosen any of the courses personally, but decided to give them a try. I enjoyed all of them.
If you fancy a trip to Cuidadela, just book a free courtesy ride in the Hotels’ shuttle Bus at the reception desk. You can select the departure time from the Hotel and the pick-up time from Cuidadela from the Hotel’s Shuttle Bus Timetable.
Drink prices in the hotel were: wine by the bottle starting from 14 euros, water 0.5litres 2.95 euros and 1 litre 5.9 euros. Tea was 2.20 euros, coffee from 2.20 euros.
If you like entertainment with your evening drink, then try the outside bar of the Hotel Valentin Star, they had very comfy chairs and a live act on every night, but you paid more for your drink – roughly 4-7 euros per drink. If the BeeGees, from the Czech Republic, are on, then they are well worth seeing – these guys were very good.
Comments from other reviews that I didn’t find during our visit:
Calan Bosch itself - I thought that the resort had improved from our last visit in 2007.
Flies - I counted three flies in the Hotel restaurant during our 7 day stay.
Waiter Service – no problems at all, they were very attentive and prompt.
Mosquitoes – only found one in our room, which had hitched a ride in on me – no repellents used, no bites occurred and one deceased Mosquito.
Hotel Food was cold – food was hot or warm.
Air Conditioning wasn’t cold enough - we turned our thermostat on the wall down to 10 degrees and you would get a shiver as you walked back in after sunbathing around the Pool – lovely.
Maitre'd – both were efficient and polite.
To sum it up, we found La Quinta to be a tranquil and relaxing place.
Excellent service and good food.
A clean and well maintained Hotel.
All Hotel staff were polite, cheerful & helpful - our thanks to them for making our stay at La Quinta special.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend La Quinta.
We booked online via TravelRepublic.co.uk for flights, transfers & accommodation - we would recommend them.
