“Contrary to other reviews - Excellent!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2009

Well, we approached our stay in Palma with some trepidation after reading some of the reviews. We normally holiday in the U.S. but ill health has meant that we had decided to stay closer to home once recovered. The difficulty was the sheer number of available hotels in the city, all with very variable reviews. In the end, my wife chose the Tryp Bellver.

When I started to look at some of the reviews, my heart started to sag! Poor service, lousy food, beligerent staff, awful stench of raw sewerage in the lobby and rooms, thin walls, noisy neighbours etc.etc. Seemed like a recipe for the TV of Holidays from Hell.

Well, surprise surprise. None of that was our experience.

The clerk on registering noted that it was my birthday on the day of our arrival, from my passport and wished me Happy Birthday. We went ot our room [507] which overlooked the harbour with excellent views of the city and marina and a superb balcony. The room was large, impeccably clean, well furnished, with a super kingsize bed, well laid out and with a fabulous bathroom. The only negative was the shower gel was empty, but was replaced by service first thing in the morning.

On our return from a brief walk along the marina at 5 in the afternoon, we found a bucket of iced Champagne and a note from the hotel wishing me Happy Birthday. Excellent.

The food in the restaurant for breakfast was brilliant. Although little changed from day to day, the huge range available was very impressive and we ate more than enough to see us through most of the day. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evenings. The menu, whilst good, was a little limited, certainly for me as non meat eater, so we chose some of the huge number of local alternatives.

We must stress, at no time did we experience any of the negatives previously reported, especially the smell of sewerage. However, we noted that this comment was made about several other hotels in Palma, usually in mid summer, and may be indicative of the city as opposed to the hotel!

The staff were brilliant. Kind, cheery [with one exception] and very helpful. The barman on several evenings reminded me of the EMH [Emergency Medical Hologram character in Star Trek Voyager] - which brought a smile to my face every time].

In conclusion, an excellent stay in a very good hotel with nothing major to complain about. If anything can be said of a negative nature, where the internal decor of the main hotel is good and certainly our room appears to be one of the many that have been recently and very successfully remodelled, the exterior is in need of repainting - truly a massive job and therefore expensive but essential in the next 6 - 9 months I suggest.

Recommended. Definately

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Tryp Bellver and were very satisfied with our experience. The only past criticisms of other contributors that we agree wtih are two: the white plaster layer that covers the entire exterior of the hotel is peeling off in places and needs to be fixed up, and the televisions are rather antiquated and have a somewhat fuzzy picture, not very pleasant for watching a movie. Nonetheless, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had paid the extra charge for a seaview room and were very pleased with room 507. There appear to be quite a number of different room types, and we glimpsed several rooms along other corridors that had no sea view and appeared quite a bit smaller than ours. Presumably these rooms are somewhat cheaper than ours. But this is a factor a customer should take into account before booking here. In our case, both the room and the bathroom were spacious, attractively decorated and clean, and we had a large balcony with a stunning view of the old town and the harbor. We were also impressed that we received, in response to the E-mail we sent before we came to notify the hotel of our late arrival, a message from the hotel that allowed us to specify in advance our choice of a non-smoking room and the type of bed. We asked for one double bed, which was enormous and very comfortable. The room was right at the front of the hotel overlooking the Paseo, and there is always traffic, but with the balcony doors closed, this did not bother us. The pool area is also at the front of the hotel, so there is traffic noise, but this arrangement does allow one to enjoy the view and have access to the restaurant which is on the same level. The pool itself is not large but well maintained, with very clean water. The surrounding terrace is pleasant and there are plenty of deck chairs. The breakfast buffet is enormous and of excellent quality, a real pleasure. The restaurant also serves quite an adequate , if not memorable, dinner, and is not that espensive for a four-star hotel. One night we had dinner at restaurant Sa Cranca, which specializes in paellas and other rice dishes. You can reach it by going to the right as you leave the hotel and walking about one minute down the paseo. We had a delicious meal there, with friendly and capable service, and the price was very reasonable. Connections to the old town and other destinations are very easy. We would gladly stay at the Tryp Bellver again on a return trip to Palma.

my husband and I both in our 40's have just returned from a 5 night city break in Palma. We arrived at the airport at approx 9.30 pm and got a taxi for 22 euros. On our return journey we got the airport bus which cost 2 euros per person ! approx 35 mins journey The bus stop for the airport is directly across the road from hotel.

We never once had a problem with any smells anywhere in the hotel. Our room was on the 14th floor (1419) it had a city view. The room was really nice, cleaned every day - towels change etc. There was both a bath and shower, hairdryer and no problems with water pressure. I would say the hotel is 4 star quality. One downside was the price of the breakfast buffet which was 17.50 euros per person we had it one morning but felt it could have been cheaper.

The location is approx 15 mins walk to the cathedral, behind which you will find all the old streets plus shops, restaurants etc. of old town Palma. We found the bars in Palma expensive some places were 14 euros for 2 drinks 'trendy bar'. We walked to Palma beach and wouldnt recommend it. the water looks very rough.

Just outside the hotel to the left at Burger King there is a bus stop where we got a bus to Palma Nova. approx 20 mins which has an excellent beach, cafes, shops, bars etc. Or you could continue on for the same price to Magaluf 30 mins, Santa Ponsa 50 mins from Palma. We did all 3 places and loved them all. We had a late night in Magaluf and paid approx 20 euros for taxi back to hotel.

We would defo stay in this hotel if we visit Palma again.

We stayed at the Tryp Bellver hotel for 10 nights during our stay in Palma this August.
Below some of our thoughts:

+ Clean, fresh room and ok bathroom
+ Excellent breakfast (quality, layout and variety)
+ Check in and check out fast and personnel friendly
+ Very good location
+ Lunch by the pool was reasonably priced and meal size large
+ Pool towel service
+ Elegant lobby area

- Lack of toiletries (didn’t include any body lotion nor cottonwool)
- TV in the room looks like it’s from the 70s. It would make a huge impact for the room appearance if they changed the TV into a flat one.
- One male person working by the pool area was extremely rude for customers (not only us but others as well)
- Exterior of the hotel needs renovation

Overall we were satisfied with this hotel. It is a good value for money and deserves its 4 stars. With a few changes it would be even better.

I stayed at the Bellver for my Hen weekend with 8 girlfriends. It is in a nice spot of Palma (Harbour) and has plenty of bars and restaurants on the doorstep. The hotel is clean and the rooms are modern and spacious. We were all given rooms on the first floor with balconies that had a harbour view. One of the rooms seemed to smell of drains so we asked reception to move the girls to another room and they kindly did so. This is a problem i seem to come across quite a lot in spain so don't let it put you off the hotel.
The breakfast was also a great plus; Lots to choose from and was open until 10am which was perfect expecially as we were out until the early hours. To be honest we didn't see a huge amount of Palma but the hotel is in a perfect situation to see everything there. We did go into Magaluf during one evening and used Taxi's to get there which was quick and easy and not that expensive (approx €15-20 i think). During the day we went to the Beach Club called Mood Beach. This place was wicked and a must for a group of girlies. We paid the lower amount of €15 which gave us sun beds in the beach part but full access to everything there including the poor and bar areas but I think its €25 if you want a poolside bed..The lunch was lovely there and the waiters were very friendly.
All in all we had a fab time and the hotel was perfect as a base for my hen weekend.
Enjoy!

I spent four nights at the Tryp Bellver with my daughter at the end of June 09. I spoke to the hotel and booked two inter connecting room, (high up - as specified by a previous reviewer) However when we checked in they did not have any interconnecting rooms, after a bad night on a lower floor (the hotel is next to a very busy road) I upgraded at some cost to a junior suite. This was much better, but sadly had a very nasty sewage smell, but we put up with it as everything else was super. The breakfasts are OK, the quality is not fantastic, and when you order some lunch as we did on one day, I felt that they were using the leftover breakfasts to make lunch sandwiches....

It is in a very good position for the whole of Palma, taxi's always outside, and fantastic views. It is expensive for what you get.

Reading one of the previous reviews, we noticed that "strange" smell as we entered the hotel lobby but we have noticed it many times over the years in Spanish hotels and put it down to their plumbing systems, fortunately the smell was not in our room. The outside is a bit shabby but the hotel is nice inside. Our room was a bit small but their was plenty of storage space and hangers. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the room was very clean and we had a large balcony with table and two chairs. We found the shower good and had no problems with the water supply. The hotel is well positioned with bars/restaurants on one side and the old town in the other direction. We didn't try the breakfast but we were told it was very good. Room service seemed limited from looking at the menu in the room.
The old town of Palma is very nice but we found the price of food expensive probably due to the exchange rate. We paid 8euros for a (nice) pizza. Burger King is a couple of doors away if you want it. We noticed how dirty the pavements were and on the whole we prefer Alicante.
