“Great hotel, superb views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Second time at Costa Azul for us - first one pre-refurb, second after. What a difference ! We enjoyed the hotel first time round, particularly the view, which has to be one of the best ones I've seen. As for the revisit, the updated rooms are very swish, bathroom great (shower especially) and the bed is the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever been in, bar none. The view is just as good (is lovely watching the cruise liners pull out of the harbour and there is always something to look at, be it planes cruising down into the airport, people promenading, yachts going in and out of the harbour) and the balcony furniture is much better quality than last time. The pool area was still in the process of being renovated, but the sun terrace is complete, with comfy sun loungers, and , again, that view. There is a busy road straight outside the hotel, but that doesn't detract from the view at all. Location is handy for a pleasant walk into town. Must mention the Darsena restaurant that is on the harbour front on the way into town - great food, great location, friendly staff and excellent value. Would highly recommend - this would be the only hotel I would contemplate stopping in if we come back to Palma. A sea view room is a must - we had premium room on 7th floor - very impressed. Only slight negative, corridor noise seemed to travel with doors opening along the hall easily audible in the room, but when the air con is on, isn't a problem and is the only very small quibble I can find with the excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Above floor 3 (pool / balcony floor) and sea view is a must

The Costa Azul is a good four star hotel. The staff were very helpful and the hotel was spotlessly clean.
The hotel was well situated on the waterfront within walking distance from the centre/ cathedral. It is also a reasonable walk for Bellver castle which is worth a visit.
We had a premium plus room on the corner of the eighth floor. Although the room was on the small size the views from the balcony were stunning with a panoramic view of the marina and the cathedral.
Not that the hotel can do anything about it, but there is a constant low level noise from the main road in front of the building. Also there was a hum from air conditioning or some other plant nearby. It didn't bother us, but you need to be aware that even though it is a waterfront location, you won't hear the lapping of waves on the shore.
We enjoyed the buffet evening meals with meat and fish freshly cooked on the griddle. It was reasonably priced at 18 euros with a welcome drink and you could eat as much or as little as you wanted. (We prefer smaller portions!)

Had a sea view room on the 7th floor which provided great views across the marina and to the cathedral, Very smart modern decor. Very comfortable beds, and lovely shower. Location was great for a very pleasant stroll into the old town for a huge choice of restaurants.
Reception staff were very helpful. Only used the dining facilities one evening as we'd had busy day - enjoyable, but fairly standard buffet.
Would recommend the hotel, particularly if you have a sea view room.

Room Tip: Higher floors give a great view.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We are group of 6 female friends in our mid 40s who meet up every May for a 3 day break. We did spend quite a bit of time looking at hotel options in Palma in order to find a hotel that would suit all of our group. Although the cost of this hotel was a bit over our usual budget we decided to book it, mostly because of its location and generally positive reviews. Initially we were concerned with the 6 lane road in front of the hotel and decided to treat ourselves to higher floor, sea-view rooms. We were not disappointed and the hotel met our expectations and exceeded them in some respects.

As mentioned by previous reviewers we took the bus to the hotel from the airport which was very straightforward – cost 2.50 Euros and leaves from outside door 4. On the way back we opted for a taxi which was much quicker (10 mins) and cost 20 euros. If you are in a group a taxi is much quicker and very economical. There is a taxi rank just along from the hotel entrance.

We had never stayed at the hotel before so are unable to comment on the differences the refurbishment has made. There was still a little bit of building work going on but it didn’t really cause any issues for us. (We stayed 24th May for 3 nights).

We booked directly with the hotel last September and the cost of a twin room was 136 Euros per night. At the time the Euros exchange rate was reasonable and we asked the hotel to take payment at the time of booking – worked out at about £110 per night for a sea-view room on a higher floor (6 + 7) with breakfast included.

We decided against including an evening meal as Palma has so many fantastic places to eat, so can’t comment on evening meals. We asked the reception for a recommendation – 10 mins from the hotel is Tapa Negro which we absolutely loved. Breakfast had a massive selection and we all loved the choice and quality. On occasion some items did run out but, when asked, staff replenished very quickly.

Although the rooms were smallish we were hardly in the room so this didn’t really bother us. They were very modern, new and comfortable, suited our taste and the shower was just great. The pool is quite small and isn’t the kind that you would do laps in but again we were out most of the time and really didn’t use the pool and sundeck that much.

A massive plus for this hotel were the staff, who were very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. One of our group had a birthday during our stay and we had not advised the hotel of this. Returning to our room in the evening there a small bottle of champagne, with birthday congratulations, which we all thought was a really nice touch.

Our plus things were – great location, modern comfortable rooms, lovely views from the balcony, good selection at breakfast, customer service focused staff.

Our negatives certainly don’t take away from the fact that we all had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay
- Our room was not cleaned in Sunday morning. By the time we came back on Sunday night and noticed this it was early evening and not worth mentioning as we were leaving the next morning. On the Saturday morning when our room was cleaned the balcony was missed out.
- There are two lifts and often we waited a bit of time to gain access to them. One day there was one lift out of action for a bit of time which added to the pressure. Although we tried to walk down the stairs we ended up at an emergency exit (maybe this will be changed when the refurbishment is completed)
- We had booked 3 higher floor sea-view rooms but on arrival one of the rooms did not have a direct sea view and you had to stretch out to see the sea. (I think the room number was 603) As the other two rooms did have a direct front view we asked for a change of room at reception and this was done for our second and third night.
- While it is great to have free wifi, the code only lasted a day and you had to ask for a new one. Also during the day it dropped out and you had to relog on – a bit annoying.

Overall we thought the hotel was very good and if returning to Palma would definitely stay there again if the pricing was comparable with this stay.

Fifth visit, like the location fairly impressed with updating but was in a very small room at the back and without a balcony, no bath. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice, not so keen on dinner menu. Staff throughout the hotel were faultless would certainly return.

Room Tip: Must have a balcony

The hotel was perfectly located for me. Only a lovely 15 minute walk to the old town and the inner city and nicely situated on the front of the port.We booked a premier sea view room with balcony. You could relax, sit out and look at the views on a the balcony as chairs and table provided. The room was very clean and modern.Beds comfortable although if you are a couple a I would suggest requesting your bed is a double/king and not two single beds pushed together. The hotel had just finished some construction which might explain why the ceiling tiles in our bathroom were loose and moving with the wind. I was concerned about this. The staff sent some workmen within 10 minutes to fix however, the job originally hadnt been finished which was slightly worrying! It didnt ruin our stay. The breakfast was good. I didnt go for dinner option as reviews were nt so good and I do prefer to sample the local restaurants when I go away. The terrace you can sun bathe on and there is a small pool which is ok and does the job.I would stay here again.

Stayed with a group of friends travelling around the island. This was the best of four hotels we used. Good sized bedrooms, clean, modern bathrooms with good showers. Overlooking the harbour with great views. Pool on the sun terrace was a bonus. Sensible drinks prices.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view
