“Excellent !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

We arrived to a short weekend with our 10 months old baby. They upgraded our room to a suite without us requesting it and it was free of charge.
That was already a very good start!
The room was very comfortable and clean and we had a nice terrace with a view to the pool. The pool area was very nice and we ate our lunches by the pool, they had a very nice selection of lunch dishes and not expensive.
Breakfast was very nice as well with a large selection buffet.
The staff was very kind and helpful at all times.
Also the free of charge wifi is another positive point.
To sum it up, it was a very positive experience and I fully recommend it.
The only two things that were not perfect are:
The hotel was full and there was a bit of a shortage in the pool seats, but it always worked out.
Also, we wanted to have a massage in the spa and were told that it is fully booked from over a month ! So, if you want a treatment you need to book it in advanced, a few weeks before arrival.

Stayed for one night with our two daughters in two adjoining rooms: 209 (with a balcony) and 208 (without balcony) but same cost for both. Shower in room 209 was broken and flooded the compact bathroom space. Black mold around the shower tray in room 208. Beds hard and pillows inferior. Very small wardrobe space and cheap plastic mis-matched hangers. Not a hotel I would have been comfortable staying in for more than a few days.

The bad stuff: there are an inadequate amount of sun beds around the pool, and to get one you have to be up early and secure with a towel. We witnessed a couple of "reserved" beds which lay empty until the afternoon, while other guests spent hours without a bed. We were lucky to secure beds but felt uncomfortable as those hoping for a bed watched everyone intently waiting for a opportunity to pounce on one that became free. The pool bar was listed as being open 11am-11pm (or midnight), however, it was only open for about three hours on the afternoon and rarely was it manned. Service at the bar in the evening was pretty appalling. Had to wait ages for anyone to come and serve us even though they looked directly at us several times from the restaurant area, waited for drinks and staff did not hide their lack of job satisfaction. Very disappointing when we came back to the hotel after a lovely dinner in the old town and wished we had found another bar outside of the hotel to finish our evening. The following morning we were woken on several occasions around 6am by guests obviously leaving rooms on our floor as the doors all slammed shut when closing. We were further disappointed to find the dirty glasses and rubbish from the previous afternoon at the pool tables not cleared. The pool was lovely but although there was a sign saying no diving etc, there were some extremely boisterous American adult male guests who were enthusiastically play fighting, loudly shouting and swearing. A very uncomfortable situation with children present and most other guests like us stared in dismay at the out of place behaviour. No member of staff ever came near the pool.

The good stuff: excellent reception staff - very professional, pleasant and helpful. Lovely buffet breakfast. Nice pool.

The overall look of the hotel was modern but lacked the substance to back up the image. Overall disappointing. We would not return and would not recommend.

Isla Mallorca is a thoroughly clean, efficiently run hotel in a most pleasant location.

It's within easy walking distance of the many wonderful cultural attractions which this city centre has on offer, including the world's second-largest gothic cathedral which is only a short walk (10-15 mins?) along the waterfront.

The rooms (our family occupied 4, so we could review a good sample) were all clean, with plenty of space and facilities. The food was plentiful, fresh and attractive. Restaurant service was swift and professional. For a discerning family, which includes several 'all-knowing' teenage children, there were no grounds for complaint.

It's worth highlighting the front of house reception staff who merit special praise. When a family arrives in the middle of the night, after a long and tiring journey, and it seems an administrative confusion has omitted to make up an extra bed in one of the rooms, things don't feel as though they're starting off on the best footing. The night staff sorted out the problem soon after, but what is remarkable were the actions of the hotel director. Mauro. stepped up the following morning, immediately and sincerely apologised and presented a series of options to make up for the slip-up. These included upgrading our rooms (one to a suite), not charging for breakfast and keeping watch during our stay to ensure nothing else could dampen our enjoyment. That kind of service isn't common and, in our view, makes this hotel worthy of applause, and warm thanks from a genuinely impressed family.

We strongly commend this hotel to readers.

Room Tip: Junior Suites could sleep a family of six!

Booked a superior room with balcony. We had our own sun loungers, table and chairs.
There are not enough sun loungers by the pool, but in all fairness to the hotel, the sun loungers "hogs" were around.
The restaurant was nice and the buffet breakfast was good, you can even get an omelette cooked to order. The evening meal deal for 15 Euros was good quality for three courses.
Drink was well priced and snacks in the bar were cheap. The staffs are hard working and friendly.
There is free high-speed Internet connection in the hotel and a free small internet "cafe" in the lounge which was never mentioned.
The hotel is clean and comfortable. We took advantage of using the spa for just 5 Euros for the length of our stay. (7 days).
We were not getting picked up for our flight until 4 pm on our day of departure. The hotel told us no problem. There is a room where you can lock you suit cases away. They allowed us to use the spa changing room to get a shower and get changed. We could use the hotel facilities during the day of departure.
If I go back to the island, I will be staying at this hotel again.

Very freindly and helpful staff. The rooms where cleaned and fresh towels daily and the pool was great? One downside more sun beds and parasols are needed.
Overall score 8/10

The travel agency that sold us the trip promised us a room with a balcony which we also paid for. When we arrived at the hotel we got a room without balcony. The reception staff explained to us that the agreement between the hotel and our travel agency did not include rooms with balcony. Even though it wasn't the hotel's fault, they upgraded us to a room with balcony without charging us for it.

Our overall impression of the stay is also very positive: good breakfast, friendly staff and clean and modern hotel.

The hotel was slightly further out of the city centre than expected - this caused no problems as the buses are regular and taxis affordable, the sea and it's promenade only a couple of blocks away. The hotels public areas - outside especially are stylish and maintained to a high standard, the pool area had plenty of tables and loungers. Our room was on the 7th floor which meant we were above any street noise and had wonderful views, sea and castle. The room had contemporary decor and a balcony which gave the room a larger feeling. Palma is a delightful city break location with other ares of the island readily accessible.

Room Tip: Higher the better for the best views
