Decided to use this hotel as a base in Palma for two nights before moving on to Puerto Soller and Puerto Pollensa. We arrived at around midnight with our reservation email in hand to be told that they had no room for us! 'We have booked you in the Horizontale around the corner - it is cheaper!' so we had no alterative but to traipse around to the other hotel. The room was ok but the breakfast buffet was disgraceful - there was absolutely nothing worth eating or drinking - very, very low budget. We went back to the Catalonia to explain that we expected to stay there for the second night which we had booked and the gentleman on reception told us he had no room. My husband (who doesn't get angry very easily) demanded to see the manager and miraculously a room became available! It was a room on the side of the hotel with a limited sea view. Although the room was fine and the breakfast choice was pretty good we would never recommend this hotel because of their poor attitude to customers. In short .... I wouldn't trust them to deliver.

Just got back from 4 night stay.We paid extra for sea view -well worth the money!Breakfast buffet was great, nice contemporary rooms and good bathroom.Only downside was drainy smell in some of the public areas,particularly the stairwells.Also, indoor pool and the gym were closed for repair which was disappointing as it was too cool for the outdoor pool.Altogether a nice laid back hotel and wouldn't hesitate to recommend, but do pay the supplement for the view!

Having been booked into this hotel as part of a package, we had been a little alarmed by some of the reviews on this page, though struck by the extent to which they were polarised (some saying very good, others suggesting awful). I think we were somewhere in the middle. We had been led to believe by our travel compnay that this hotel was near to the centre of Palma, which is plainly not true, though the views are undoubtedly good and a cheap number 3 bus (1euro 20) from near to the base of the funicular (which was working throughout!) gets one to the centre in about 15 minutes.

The service we received was almost entirely friendly and helpful (exceptionally so in the restaurant and at the front desk); one very minor hiccup was probably more to do with difference of language. We found that a smile and the odd "gracias" always went down well.

The main downsides: the outside areas, though not dirty when we were there, were a bit shabby and, frankly, though there is a reasonably good choice for meals, this is what you expect if there is buffet service. Overall, we thought the food was not quite up to the culiniary standard one would normally see in four star hotel. However, the desserts deserve a special mention - really yummy! - and the grilled meat, fish, etc, though not exactly exciting, were perfectly palatable. The pastries for breakfast were good too.

All in all, we enjoyed our holiday and this was a hotel that gradually grew on us.

We spent a week at this hotel. I have to say it was the worst hotel I have stayed at in years. The bedrooms are very basic and in need of a good coat of paint. The bathroom was reasonably clean. Both the reception staff and hotel staff were surly and unhelpfull. The bar staff at times were down right rude. The pool was dirty and the childrens pool was downright filthy. The pool area was covered in litter and cigarette ends. I ask for this to be cleaned up, but got little response. The pool area is surrounded by broken and cracked tiles. The whole hotel is in need of a coat of paint and repair. All the glass outside was in need of a good clean. This was a 4 star hotel. I would rate it a 2 star. I will not be back. The only good point about this hotel are the views over the port and marina. The area around the hotel is run down with derelict shops etc.
