“Really a good choice in Palma”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2010

I don't wite too many reviews; one reason is lack of time, the other, which I feel more important, is not to let too many people into your "secret"... , because maybe it will be harder to get rooms, at a good rate, next year! But Tripadvisor is OK i guess...nobody would know....
LOCATION; If you know Palma, you know this hoel, its the most "visual" in all of Palma,
with it's beige front side, just next to Gran Melia Victoria and the yachts. It's just a little too far to walk back from an evening in the center/old town, but a Taxi is only 3-5 Euros.
HOTEL; A fully 4+. Grand lobby, intelligent lifts(!), professional service, nice pool and Spa eria.
ROOMS; We had a family room / junior sute. Just great, 2 balconies, 2 TV's (flat screen in our childens room (living room for suite,)nice bathromc etc.

Make sure you opt for a sea view room its worth the price alone. Although there is some road noise the view of the pool area, harbour and the cathedral are fantastic. Getting up early to watch the sun rise and the yachts coming and going was a real highlight for us and next time i will take binoculars to see what they are all doing on those floating gin palaces. I agree with the comments about the foyer as they turn on the water feature and it does look as though you are in a sinking ship but on a hot day it is very cooling. The room was clean and smart and as we took a travel kettle we could induldge in an early morning cuppa while taking in the sun and the view. all the staff we met were polite and helpful. The only critiscism i would make is the position of the toilet in the bathroom if you are a big person you cant get comfy because of the shape of the room and it is too near the wall, the bidet has all the space you could ever need to" wash your socks" why not swap them over ?
Overall worth the money @ £100 a night but the sea view rooms never seem to have the breakfast option so we went to crepe suzettes 50 yards away for breakfast , always a cheerful welcome and great fruit juices.
I will try and load a photo when i can get the pic off my camera but i can assure you the view is FANTASTIC ! Enjoy !!

room 616 was a lovely room overlooking the marina and bay. Room excellent and all facitilies and cleanliness 100% reception staff faultless and food/dining excellent value for the quality and standards. Breakfast were one of the best although a little pricey but fill out a MAS card and get 50% discount. Pool lovely and not too busy prices of drinks generally high but same on island and fantastic Gelateria next block to left where best ice creams to take away and very good prices. stopped there every day to try the wide tastes. Was going to stay at TRYP Bellvour but glad stayed here. Was special occasion whilst there and did mention this on booking months ago and when we arrived back to room 1st night champagne bucket with bubbly waiting. Fantastic. The Spanish are still the experts in service.

Stayed in the Atenea for an excellent 3 night hen weekend break and thought the hotel was excellent. Yes the lobby area is dated (think the ballroom in the Poseidon Adventure...!!) but the value for money and facilities were excellent.
I have to say I am not bothered by dated decor as long as the hotel is clean and well maintained and has good facilities which it does. The pool area and bar is fantastic and a great size compared with neighbouring hotels.
Having been part of a party of 20 the location was ideal, a short walk to the old town and handily located for the bars and restaurants of the marina area.
It perhaps isn't a place for a quiet romantic break, but I think should you want that you need to look somewhere other than Palma which is a vibrant city with lots to see and do!!
Would highly recommend to family and friends and would have no hesitation in staying in other Sol Melia hotels.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and found it to be very good value and of a high standard. The staff were very helpful and the rooms clean and tidy. My only slight criticsim would be that the air conditioning was not too efficient but appart from that there were no problems. The room was well sound proofed and a good size; the bathroom was also a good size. The beds were comfortable and the linen clean. The pool area was very nice too. I would definitely stay here again.

My friend and i have just returned from three nights in Majorca. The hotel was lovely and style was quite typical to others we have stayed in. Our room was clean and spacious and although you were given an option of having sheets/towels changed, this was done automatically. When booking the hotel i had made a special request to be on an upper floor after reading reviews about noice from a nearby nightclub. This was not a problem at all and we were placed on the top floor. The view from our balcany was fine - as we hadnt booked a harbour view room we just looked onto the rest of the city but its fairly pleasant and you can see the castle on top of the hill.
The best part of my stay was the staff. We booked in a day late due to volanic ash canceling our flight but all the staff on reception were really helpful, making suggestions for trips and how to get around palma. Although we didnt have breakfast in the hotel, we did have our main meals in the retaurant on groundfloor in the evenings - again great quality, great value (huge portions) and the waiters/waitress were really friendly and efficient.
There is also a lot of small cafes along the harbour very close to the hotel which also looked lovely but as we were only staying a few nights and the restaurant was good we didnt try anywhere else, although there is a great french crepe cafe a few doors up with makes nutella crepes to kill for.
We didnt use the pool area but the view was fantastic and looked clean - plenty of sun loungers and shades.

In all great hotel and lovely location - only 20min along the coast to the cathedral/old town.

Went for a long weekend with my husband, and was bitterly disappointed with this hotel -it is not suitable for a leisure break, its a business hotel through and through. The decor is very dated, dark and oppressive. The bedroom was very tired too, but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean. There was a residual smell of tobacco smoke but they did not recommend the only other room available but did send a maid with air freshner spray.
The main problem is the hotels position, it is a bit further from the old town than ideal but the biggest problem was the noise from street parties very nearby. The noise went on all night - we were disturbed every night, even until 6am on the friday/saturday. We didn't have a decent sleep at all. These parties are a problem in majorca, but this hotel is suffering badly.
A major reason for choosing this hotel was for the facilities - spa and gym. Whilst internet access was listed as available at extra charge (a hefty 8 euros per 24hr), it wasn't mentioned for the other facilities. I expect to pay for treatments in a spa but not access to the pools, sauna etc- thats what I pay for in the room rate. They wanted 10 euros per person and you must have flip flops (3.50 euros) and a rubber swim cap too. It was all too much.
The pool was closed as there was no lifeguard! The snack bar was closed too. Call this 4 star?
The breakfast buffet was one of the most comprehensive I've had - even including wine!?? I hesitate saying it was great as the bacon was weird, a bit sllmey and not the usual crispy stuff you usually get.
We asked for a couple of hours extra before we checked out ( 1400 instead of 1200) but we couldn't have it.
We won't be staying here again, in fact we won't stay in any other hotel in this group.
