“Melia Palas holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Hotel excellent, staff very helpful, excellent position overlooking the harbour, plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, nice 30 mins walk into old town. Pool not recommended for children as very deep. Would definitely come again.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the rear of the hotel but we had the sun from 16.00 till 20.30

We travelled as "forty somethings" guys from England.
We stayed at the hotel last weekend and, having read all the reviews decided to upgrade to a room on the front, overlooking the harbour. It cost an extra 40 euro per night.
We were allocated a room on the 7th floor with stunning views from the adequate balcony over the swimming pool below and the harbour with it's bobbing boats and large yachts (see photo).
The room itself was very modern with laminate type flooring and, as other folk have said, Ikea style furniture. Great lighting and very calming. The aircon was decent enough too.
Breakfast was included in our room rate but was average for a 4 star hotel. I am offered freshly cooked eggs "my way" everywhere I stay so this was not a big deal.
We had lunch at the hotel tapas bar and took a table on the pavement outside. It was superb food and wine, recommended!
The bar near the reception area was good. Pleasant bar staff, football on the TVs.
Lots of nibbles with your drinks and, on one occasion, deep fried breadcrumbed foie gras!

Right, that's the good points covered.

Directly outside of the hotel appeared to be the main hub in Palma for "getting your hands on extras"! It was crowded out with Eastern Europeans pushing drugs and loose women on to passers by. This was even, to a certain extent, happening under the entrance atrium of the hotel itself!
I'm not sure what time they arrive to start plying their respective trades as we were always returning to the hotel after midnight so they were always there to pester us.

Down the side of the hotel is 2 strip and "extras" clubs, again, run by Eastern Europeans. The noise these places generate is unbelievable!

I would not return to this hotel again because of my last points, and certainly not with my family!

First of all there are two types of rooms, one without view and one with a fantastic view over the port to the city. Also some rooms are "refurbished" some are not; refurbished means that some of the furniture has been taken out and exchanged with IKEA style modern one. So now there is a mix of styles in the same room (old brown 80s and new white 2010s) looking even uglier than the previous design. The bathrooms are still very, very small and in the original style.

Well, one can discuss design but above all discussions is cleanliness or better said the lack of it. The whole room was dusty; cigarette stumps from some previous guests and a lot of hair in the bathroom weren't really inviting.

If you like partying the area is good if you don't participate don't be offended by the constant yelling of party people on the streets below, though.

The hotel has a pool but unless you reserve one of the few sunbeds in time you will have to sit on the tiled floor.

The breakfast is very good which is also the reason for the second point.

Stayed here for a 5 day break. Booked via the hotel site and got a great deal, I joined their rewards scheme giving a great discount on bed and breakfast. Stayed in room 641, at the rear of the hotel. The room was a little dated but was very generous in size with an up to date and large bathroom. The room had the standard flat screen tv, mini bar and safe. The rooms you see on the web are a little misleading, the plush rooms are those with the sea view. Never the less I don't spend much time in my room so wasn't bothered by a little outdated decoration. The staff are very helpful, the breakfast is outstanding with a massive variety. The pool area is very goid and clean. It's a nice walk of a mile or so into the centre. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend the hotel. I'd give it 4.5. If up to date decor means a lot then book a sea view room and pay the extra.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week from 20th may, complained of the standard of the room which we where allocated. We were told all the "standard rooms at the back of hotel ( which had views of unused buildings and rubbish dump ) where all you could have unless you paid 33euro surcharge per night,. This put £200 pound on price of holiday., which I donot think this holiday was worth. The room at front of hotel had good views with small balcony. Also found bathroom very small in comparison with other hotels of 4 star quality. Bed was great, but rest of room poor quality.

Room Tip: Don't attempt to stay in any room that's not refurbished, as standard very poor.

We recently stayed at this hotel, initially i was very disappointed when we were allocated our room. The room was at the back of the hotel which has not been updated unlike the rooms at the front of the hotel. The furniture was tatty and the decor dull and needed updating. I had booked this holiday as a birthday present for my husband and was very unhappy with the standard of the room. We complained to reception and were told that the back of the hotel had not been renovated. The only choice we were given was to spend an extra 33 Euro's a day to move to a room at the front. This was a nice room with a superb view of the harbour and Cathedral. However the white free standing furniture looked a bit cheap. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel as it was 38euros a day for 2 people which we thought was a rip off. There are plenty of nice places around to get breakfast at a third of the price!
Palma itself is a beautiful city and is about a 30minute walk from the hotel

We found the staff friendly and helpful. We arrived late and got put in a twin room by mistake but they quickly rectified the situation when we said we'd booked a double. The new room was lovely (812) and the bed very comfortable. Only drawback was a slight 'drains' smell in the loo. We had a room overlooking the side road- with a sunny balcony and side sea view and we could watch the cruise ships come in and out. Breakfast was good and the pool area was nice with great views.
We had a meal in the Tapas bar on the ground floor and it was fantastic, there is also another lovely Tapas bar just a bit further along the road. Beware the Italian nearby, bland overcooked pasta- tourist food. An easy 20 min walk into Palma- we never used a bus or taxi.
I am a very light sleeper but only heard noise from revellers on the Friday night- and it wasn't too bad.
We would return

Room Tip: make sure you face the sea
