The last time I visited this place was 14 years ago and in those days before the smartphone and wifi I relied on reviews/places to go in magazines like MixMag/DJ etc - I was staying at the FIesta Milord and spent most of the week trying to find this place when from my balcony I spotted a stone mill and thought that must be it. So I walked out of the hotel and turned right, instead of left to go into San An, and went down the little dirt track and lone behold it was Kumharas - I remember at the time I thought the decor was out of this world, I loved the indian/syrian feel to it and this was before places like The Fez club and numerous souk-style bars were around back in the UK.
14 years on and our last day in Ibiza I decided to try and walk to it from San An, trying to retrace my steps back to the hotel that we stayed in back then - but I soon realised that the landscape of this end of the bay has changed quite a bit, a lot more hotels, bars and places to eat etc - anyway I got lost and decided to get a taxi. We arrived and I didn't recognise the surrounding area at all, so many buildings now. In fact the sunset is now blocked by a hotel which I'm sure wasn't there before...but can't remember.
But the place hasn't changed a bit, decor and ambience is still the same, great chill out music, smoking pipes, hippy market etc - all still there and still the great place I remembered.
We decided to have a meal there and we weren't disappointed. The food was superb. I had tuna tartare (with a cheeky quails egg) followed by steak, the wife had steak tartare and then fish, we finished with two deserts (one a pistachio souffle which was a taste sensation) - the full hog. It was the best meal we had all week to be fair. The prices are expensive but this is the norm all over Ibiza - paying 28 notes for a steak, but it was the best 100g of solid protein I ate during my stay.
We love the place and maybe we'll go back in another 14 years to see what it's like then.
