I originally checked the hotel reviews here before booking the Bellamar - the reviews weren't entirely wrong - the hotel isn’t full of lads, it’s clean, with a decent pool and close to the dog-end littered beach for convenience. It’s also only a fifteen-minute stroll down to San Antonio’s main square. If you're a family and planning to go to the Bellamar hotel whilst keeping regular sleeping hours, then I'm sure you'll have a nice ‘average’ break. However, if like us you're planning on going to bed after 6am (post-clubbing) then forget it; this hotel's cleaning staff shout up corridors, laugh and bang walls so much you'll be cursing them with a pillow over your head, not to mention wasting the sunshine outside on missed sleep.

I would advise refusing to stay in any rooms ending in a '18'. The reason for this advice is that these rooms are nearest both the lift shaft and the cleaning supplies room on each floor - this means that you get exposed to the noise of everybody staying on the floor and additionally the maids going loudly back and forth each morning. Your bed’s headboard will also back onto the wardrobe of the guests in rooms ending in ‘17’ (due to the hotel's floorplan) which can result in loud knocking on the wall from coat hangers etc. The maids seem to make no effort to take notice of 'do not disturb' signs hung on your door handle and ‘accidentally’ bang the door outside with brooms and trolleys, knocking the walls of the room on either side when cleaning adjacent rooms.

Additionally, the whole hotel has tiled floors; none of the chairs or beds has rubber feet… all around us the maids and guests would drag furniture around like there was no tomorrow which was excruciating. Often it seemed so extreme that we were convinced it was a deliberate ploy to get us up. We confirmed with the guest of room 519 (in a local pub) that his room was also very noisy due to dragged furniture (and he said he was usually deaf in one ear!). Do take earplugs if you want some sleep past 8am. There’s very little noise from outside in the street or on balconies unless you’re staying August 24th for the St Bartholomew’s day firecrackers at 8am. Most balconies seem to have an acceptable view of the sea or the bright lights of San Antonio.

The Bellamar hotel claims on its literature that each room is soundproofed, but I think the only thing they have done to that end is limit the volume on the television remote beyond one third of the way up the screen (sensible). Not so sensible however is the one and only English channel ‘Sky News’ – which seems to have only twenty minutes of new footage per day. German MTV does have the odd English programme like ‘Hogan Knows Best’ but when preparing to go out I would have preferred to watch Rambo 2, Soldier of Fortune and Bay Watch in English rather than Spanish. With so many English guests, four German language channels seems a bit of a strange selection.

In terms of food, we only made breakfast twice, on both occasions the selection and quality was average / acceptable. A lot of tinned food seemed to be used – such as tinned mushrooms and tomatoes. This also seemed to be the case for some cooked vegetables at dinner – the overall selection again being average and desserts lacked chocolate! We always made dinner though and did find the odd delicious freshly cooked dish on occasion. The waiters are a bit desperate to get your plate off you, don’t put your fork down for too long to take a drink or you’ll find yourself wrestling with them to get it back... at least they’re polite though - not overly friendly anywhere in the hotel, no small talk, just enough to get their jobs over with so they can go home.

In the basement of the Bellamar is the 'Wellness Centre' which has a gymnasium, indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi - however, these are not free to use by guests. On enquiry we were told it would cost us 15 euros for twenty minutes (around £10) - quite expensive when most other 'four star' hotels would include this in the price. When we went down to investigate the whole area was empty.

On a final note do bear in mind that taxis cannot be booked at the Bellamar, you have to hail one on the street corner and ask it to go to your hotel to collect cases. I think this is probably not unique to the Bellamar in Ibiza but did find it odd that they hadn’t got a private deal with somebody local. I had to wait on the main road to San Antonio for a cab to the airport and then chase it up the road to see where it dropped off – a bit stressful if you’re worried about catching a flight back home.

Having been coming to stay on this beautiful island for over 14 years and always around the San Antonio bay area this is without a doubt the best one I have stayed in. The hotel is very clean. Chambermaid service is 7 days a week. We stayed in room 525 which offered a view of a sunset most evenings if the sky permitted it. Air conditioning in the rooms at no extra cost, also the mini fridge is open at all times to place bottles of water, drink etc at no extra charge. The only down side was that the TV in the rooms only offered 1 English speaking channel which was Sky News, the rest German and a few Spainish. The pool area is very clean, along with the pool. If do wish to have a sunbed, recommend you get down early to put your towels on, not because of the Germans but because of the English. Hardly any Germans stay here mainly Spainish & English. The bar area offered a wide range of drinks, snacks and meals. The food was of good standard and the service from the waiters was great and very attentive. We stayed half board, even though we didn't make it down to breakfast which is served between 8-10am, the evenings meals were again of good standard with plenty of choice, we liked the idea of dinner being served between 8-10pm as we felt we weren't rushing to get ready to go down and eat early, people were still going into the restaurant at 9.50 to eat and staying till 10.30. So if you were abit of night owl like we were, you could go down later, have dinner, then have a few drinks in the bar before heading off to livelier part of San An. The age group of this hotel i would say is from the late 20's. No children running around, no young ones coming in and making loads of noise which was great. We were coming in at 6 or later most mornings and we're in our early 30's!!! More of a grown ups hotel than an 18-30's. The reception staff were great and very helpful from what we noticed towards other guests, if you need to known anything about the island or how to get anywhere they will be able to tell, no problem. My husband and I were so impressed with this hotel we have decided to stay here again and have booked here stay here already for next year. We had a fabulous time and have come back totally relaxed.

“shame about the noise”

Bellamar Hotel

We have just arrived home from a week at the Bellamar hotel. Had read the reviews before booking and agree with all the other positive comments, clean, food ok, staff freindly if you approached them, near the beach. The only down side was the noise from the road and the construction opposite during the day, thats if you were lucky enough to have a sunbed for the day. Due to the noise we couldn't relax if we stayed around the pool so chose to visit many of the beaches in the area. Be warned, the cost of loungers and parasols vary from one end of the beach to the other, from 4 euros per item to 5 euros per item. The bellamar is not for those that want entertainment, very quiet and sedate, probably better suited to the more mature person who enjoys eating similar food each night. As written previously by the american visitor, topless doesn't shock us but PLEASE!! if you are a senior member of the society - COVER UP.

“The perfect sunset hotel!”

Bellamar Hotel

So we all know the situation, works too stressful and you don’t get any time to relax at home. What should you do? Well my recommendation is spend a few days at the Bellamar Hotel in San Antonio Bay, Ibiza.

LOCATION
The hotel is situated about 50m from the sea, down a couple of steps from the hotel pool and is about a 20 minute car journey from Ibiza airport, we used transfers booked through shuttle direct at about £12 per person.

The hustle and bustle of the West End is a good 15 minute along the bay and the coastline with Savannah, Café del Mar and Café Mambo is probably about 25 minutes from the hotel. If you don’t feel like walking, there is a boat from Hotel Hawaii that goes every 30 minutes and costs 2 euros.

In the vicinity of the hotel (no more that 2 minutes) you have a couple of snack bars, one situated directly below the pool sun area, a fully equipped supermarket (owned by the hotel) and handful of other shops. If you are willing to walk an additional couple of minutes your selection of places to eat and shop is endless.

ROOMS
Rooms have all the basics you need including a fridge and a hair dryer in the bathroom which is handy.
We had a twin double bedded room on the side of the hotel on the 5th floor which gave you a perfect view of the surrounding area, and you are not over looked by any other hotel. The rooms were cleaned and refreshed every day.

STAFF
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and speak very good English at reception if you are not too confident with your Spanish. The team in the restaurant and the bar are lovely and make you feel incredibly welcome.

FOOD
The restaurant is buffet style serving a broad variety, if you are vegetarian don’t be scared to ask the chef, he’ll cook you something especially for you and if you let him know what time you will be down for dinner, it will be waiting on the table for you.
For all those meat and fish eaters, you are spoilt for choice, each meat and fish type is well represented here, and with little plastic farm animals as indicators, you cannot go wrong.
Each evening there is a “guest” dish, like roast beef or grilled swordfish. I recommend you try a little of everything including the fresh salad bar, the grilled vegetables and the endless choice of desserts including fruit, cakes, ice and yoghurts
Breakfast is a grand affair, as well as an abundence of cold meats, salamis and smoked fish there is fruit, cereals, dried fruit and nuts, hot options like eggs, bacon, sausages and baked beans, pastries and cakes as well as varied preserves.

SWIMMING POOL
Well, its not heated, so wait until midday after the sun heated for a couple of hours. The pool is a decent size but with a couple of people on lilo’s can make it feel cramped. There is an indoor pool and spa area, but you have to pay. There are a large number of loungers, umbrellas, tables and the lounge mats are free!

ENTERTAINMENT
Apparently there was something on but we missed it.
The pool bar is cheap, £1.80 for a beer, and there is waiter service. Its open until about 2am and they serve snacks as well as ice creams and coffees.

PROBLEMS AND COMMENTS
Check in at 3pm, but we arrived at 10am and a room was ready for us.

I want to say something bad about this hotel, but I am struggling. Its excellent value, £30 per person per night for half board, with a great mix of guests and very one is really friendly and its like this across most of the island. It comes highly recommended, so much so that I am going back next year.

“Perfect from beginning to end”

Bellamar Hotel

Our first holiday together and we could not fault a single thing. Being 20 and 21 we wanted to experiance ibiza but come back to somewhere quiet and relaxing and we made the best choice possible. The hotel was perfectly located next to the beach and only about 15 min walk away from the madness of san antonio (far away enough though). The hotel was immaculatly clean and the staff were very friendly and polite. It felt very exclusive and earned it's 4 stars. We had a sea view and spacious room which was cleaned every day. The area was perfect, shops, bus stop/taxis right outside, resteraunts and bars just down the road, next to the beach and promonade. The food in the hotel was amazing and so versitile. We did so much in a week and relaxed by the pool, it was honestly perfect, so much so we have booked to go back to the bellamar again next year. Obviously, I highly recommend the bellamar and Ibiza to anyone.
