“Perfect hotel in San Sebastian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Hotel Niza is situated in a fantastic location right on Concha Beach. The hotel staff are friendly and the rooms are clean. We were on the top floor with an amazing view of the beach. Very local and can easily walk all over San Sebastian. Would recommend this hotel 100%.

We were on a motorcycle trip and showed up late afternoon without a reservation. We had just come from Hotel Bristol, Pau, France, where the service couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. This was arguably a nicer hotel building/room/location, but the front desk staff were not so friendly, which in my mind detracted from our stay. Talked very little, even eye contact limited. On the plus side, the room was nice, the location good, and San Sebastian is a wonderful, wonderful place. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves- old town, walking up to the Castle, being amidst screaming soccer fans, seeing an elegant wedding, enjoying tapas in a very lively bar. What a place. We will come back......but maybe not back to this hotel....hotels are made of buildings and people.....the former was great, the latter, not so much.

Location : Situated on the lovely promenade overlooking beautiful La Concha Beach, the hotel is in a perfect spot to tour all of San Sebastian. A short walk to old town, and an even shorter stroll to el centro.

Hotel: An older building with modern touches. The room was a decent size and the bathroom was large with a good shower. The restaurant at the hotel, Narru, was situated in the basement and the food was very good. The bar Biarritz, on the lobby level was convenient with good drinks ans pinxtos. The staff seemed professional but stiff at first, but after striking up conversations, they were very nice and helpful. Irene helped us get our boarding passes which made life easy for us. We especially enjoyed the tables set up outside on the promenade. We loved watching the constant parade of people going by. The view was WOW!

City: We loved the city of San Sebastian, the old town, the shops, the film festival and especially the Museum of San Telmo.

Day trip: We went to Bilbao twice. Esay bus ride, one hour. Once with a private tour "free" with Bilbao greeter.com. Ask for Marivi. Another day to the Guugenheim and the Museum Beaux Arts. Bilbao is worth a visit.

Room Tip: We opted for air conditioning which did not have a sea view but we saw the view from everwhere.

I would prefer to stay elsewhere next time. Had the price been lower, I could have tolerated this place more. I booked seven months in advance and requested a quiet, ocean-view room but got a room with no view, next to the elevator. Breakfast was not included in the price. The 2-person desk staff could hardly be bothered with assistance, much less look up and greet you. A little weird and stuffy. It was just "OK" in my opinion.

Stayed here after 2 nights in Biarritz on our 2 week tour of the Basque country. Lovely small hotel on La Concha beachfront about 10 mins walk from old town with lovely walk along promenade. Hotel has great charm, beautiful old gated elevator taking you to your floor and rooms small but charmingly decorated and spotlessly clean. Unfortunately we didn't have sea view but just walk out through restaurant and you are on wonderful promenade at the beach. Loved San Sebastian very easy to walk around and enjoy the sights with little stop offs in the numerous fabulous pinchos bars when weather was not good enough for beach time. The Niza was booked out when we tried to stay for our last few nights on the 2nd week, we got apartment which was great but would recommend hotel highly.

Hotel Niza is a lovely classy hotel in the most amazing location on the prime beachfront in San Sebastian. It is charming, impeccably presented and occupies a choice location. And all this for a very reasonable tarrif. We loved our short stay there.

The ambience of Hotel Niza is wonderful - gorgeous antique furniture in the public area and a classic elevator that could be out of a movie. It has a super coffee shop/breakfast bar, a good restaurant and delightful beachfront outside tables. Our room on the 6th floor (61) was gorgeous - fantastic ocean view and little balcony. Everything was spotless, everything was there and we slept to the sound of the waves on the beach below....although the double glazing shut out all noise if you so desired.

We just loved Hotel Niza. you'd have to be very fussy and difficult to find fault with it.

The hotel Niza is in the perfect spot for all exploring in San Sebastian. The staff speak very good English, very helpful and polite. The hotel is only rated 3 star but delivers on so many other levels. It has an excellent restaurant and Pinxtos bar, great breakfast ( not included in price) and direct access to the beach. You do have to carry your own bags upon a small lift, but the rooms have excellent bathrooms, balconies with multi use doors/ window, and digital tv. The beds are very comfortable, albeit two singles pushed together, but still very good. Wifi is very good and free and the room is very clean and serviced daily.
You will be hard pressed to find a 3 star in this location for 150 - 170€ per night.
Location wise, beach is less than 1 min. Old town for Pinxtos is 10 min away. Great cages very close as well as Day spa's and shopping.
Taxi's are fairly well priced here, staff at the desk will order them for you and give you Spanish written directions for the driver.
We were lucky to have a sea view room, we requested months before mad I suggest we got lucky.
If driving into San Sebastian to the hotel they supply at 18€ / night car parking under the hotel. Be sure to keep track of turn offs if not using GPS.
Great hotel in brilliant location.

Room Tip: Room 11 has a great balcony and spacious room
