“Best Location in San Sebastian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011

My friend and I booked this room primarily for its location overlooking the beach and were not disappointed. Not only is the view spectacular, but to have the sound of the surf coming in the window is simply wonderful. Spaniards love to take their daily strolls, so people watching from the balcony also great. I agree with other reviewers that the rooms are a bit tired, but the hotel has already started on a complete rennovation of all the rooms, to be complete by next spring. (The only downside for us is hearing the hammering that began each morning--fortunately after we awoke.) We ate one night in the hotel restaurant and found the quality and value to be excellent: 22 euros for a complete meal, including and American style salad bar. We did not have a drink in the bar, but the setting (again overlooking the beach) is very quiet and relaxing.

One note: The hotel appears to attract an older, upper crust sort of crowd; if you are looking for a livelier, more youth oriented atmosphere, you may want to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the premium for a beachfront room for the view. The city-side rooms overlook a very...

Good service, lovely lobby, and decent restaurant. Bathroom was spectacular, but the rest of the room needed a facelift. Poor saggy couch, dated decor and linens. Not at all worth the price I paid.

The views are amazing from this beach front hotel. The rooms are a bit tired. However, you are in the center of everything. Wonderful strolls along the beach, easy access to great restaurants. The staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and spa recommendations. There may be nicer rooms in San Sebastian. However, you will not find better views. Beware of lower floors on a Saturday night. The noise from the street kept our daughters up most of the night.

Room Tip: Choose an upper floor, especially if visiting on a Saturday night. It is very noisy along the wate...

Went to Spain for a vacation. Right on the beach. Short walk to Old Town. Free internet access in the lobby. Great Hotel bar and outdoor tables. Neatest elevator. I would stay there again!

Hotel is nice but very old. My room stunk like smoke. Location is awesome. Way too pricey for what you get.

Other reviewers have found fault with this hotel but we loved it ,and this is where I would want to stay again if I return to San Sebastian. Everyone agrees that the location is wonderful, which it is. But we liked our room very much. It was a standard, double, ocean-view room. It was comfortable and had a small balcony overlooking the beautiful beach and harbor. The wall facing the beach was floor-to-ceiling windows with a swinging door. The weather was very warm so we could leave the door open and listen to the ocean sounds day and night, which we loved. It was just fabulous to get up in the morning and look out at that view and watch was happening! The hotel itself was very quiet--no noise from other rooms.

The bathroom was enormous and lovely--marble with double sinks and plenty of room to move around. The hotel, in my opinion, does not fall into the "has seen better days" or "tired" category. Yes, the carpets are a bit worn but certainly not shabby. The hotel is traditional, so if you want modern architecture, this isn't it.

Breakfast buffet is pricey (about 17+ euros with tax), but if you're dying for the all-inclusive American breakfast with everything else European breakfasts have to offer, then it may be worth it to you. We can only eat pastry/rolls and coffee for so many days until we have to have something more substantial, so we ate there one morning because it's hard to find elsewhere.

The desk personnel were somewhat perfunctory but everyone was polite and helpful. I don't quite understand why more of them don't speak better English since they must have many English-speaking guests, but there was at least one man who spoke excellent English at the desk and even smiled while doing so!

We agree with other reviewers who suggest paying for the ocean-view room if you stay here. If you're going to look at city streets, you can save money and go elsewhere unless you simply want the convenience of the location. Also, check the cost per night--it varies. We were going to stay three nights but changed to two after we discovered that one night was going to cost more than 300 euros. The other two nights were about 175 euros each (w/o breakfast), which we thought was good value for the location, the scenery, and the quality of the room for September (right after the film festival concluded).

Stayed there last month during the San Sebastian Film Festival. We were in SS for the food, mainly Mugaritz (read my review ) but the film festival added a lot to our stay in the hotel as it was always hosting actors, directors, producers, etc..
The hotel is undoubtedly the best located hotel in SS and although it is in decent shape it does look "tiered". We stayed here because my Great Grand parents used to stay here and it is a very charming place but it could easily be the great hotel it once was if it was taken over by a hotel chain with the money to fix it up but I would still stay nowhere else while in SS.
