“Nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

The hotel is set about 20 mins from the main town, but the walk in is a long the sea front, with no hills. The bus stops across the road from the hotel and goes straight to the centre of town, make sure you catch number 5 or 25 and it cost €1.50 per person.

The accomodation is clean and tidy, the room had all the amenities that were required. The breakfast choice was plentiful. There is free WIFI in the rooms buta code has to be obtained from reception and it changes every 24 hours.

The only issue we found during our stay was that the bedroom got too hot, despite setting the air-conditioning at 5 degrees no cold air came out at all. We solved this problem by sleeping with the window open, which was a little noisy. Other than that it was a good hotel and we will definately consider using it again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the end as they are on side streets rather than on the busy front road.

So, someone else booked this for me, so I disclaim all responsibility for being there; it would never have got through my filters. Billed as 4-star this is really a 3 or 2.5 star chain-crafted hotel. It is off the main drag in San Sebastien/Donostia so if it is more than €120 then you are being ripped off.

PAUSE…DEEP BREATH…To be positive, the staff were really nice and professional (though the booking system, seemed to be a seti@home machine or was computing some really hard, NP-hard problem during checkin). The room is small but clean (I would guess a 20-25 sq m room), that is, bog-standard hotel size, with the time-honoured layout: door-bathroom(left)-wardrobes(right)-room-with-beds-touching-TV-table and small window. Hardwood floors, decent bathroom and that Spanish spareness that is designed to dissipate heat in a warm climate. But, I will never remember this room, it will merge with a million others…unless I decide to do something dramatic in it (like sketch Toulouse-Lautrec pastels on the walls).

Overall, the room's endearing cheapness reveals itself by degrees. My initial impressions are optimistic; well, small but clean; you think "I can live with this, not beluga but maybe eel roe". But, then it ambushes you. First, the two single beds (merged to look like a double against the faux-walnut headboard) are on well-oiled castors that shoot them across the room as soon as you place any non-vertical pressure on them (so as I write this, I have left the bed, to perch against the wall, as the bed scoots off randomly in various directions when I put my back to the headboard). There is no configuration of these two beds that could be described as "a double", given what we know about the laws of gravity and resistance. Second, the plumbing is monumentally crap; people flushing two rooms away aurally wash you from your bed; the next-door flush seems to come from directly behind your cistern (except that it backs onto the main part of the room?). Third, the walls and insulation between rooms are of the lacquered spit-and-tissue variety; the guy next door to me either has cri-du-chat syndrome or else he is chasing a cockatoo around the room (every now and then, I hear a sharp eeeeek; but, on second thoughts, it could just be the plumbing). Fourth, after a while you realise that all these noises are not coming from next door but are, rather, from two floors up and three across.

So, to be positive (again), it is not a suicide room; one could make the best of it. But, really, life is too short.

Myself and my boyfriend visited San Sebastian in August. There had been mixed reviews on trip advisor regarding the hotel's location. To ease anybody's concern, it is in a great location! It is approx a 15 minute walk to the old town, and a 3 minute walk to the beach. It is in a lovely area of san sebastian where you can get to see where the locals live, very clean and very safe. There is a fab supermarket accross the road from hotel, a scattering of restaurants, a place to pick up bikes, and the bus stop is outside with regular stops to hop on to go back into town in the evening- it takes about 2mins to shuttle u up there. A taxi is about 5 euro if you're REALLY late coming back, the buses go until approx 12.30. Very regular service.

Now the hotel is sparkling, its cleanliness is OUTSTANDING- and I am really fussy about that. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the beds are lovely and comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful. The rooms are spacious and airy. The breakfast was lovely a huge selection of everything.Me a nd my boyfriend are in our mid twenties and from Ireland. We instantly fell in love with san sebastian. For every type of person you can imagine, this place is a perfect destination. It is like a piece of heaven on earth to be perfectly honest.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, we climbed the mountain to go up to the statue, took the fenicular up to the tower, the aquarium, hired kayaks to go out to the island, I would highly recommend renting bikes from the tourist office- we really had a brilliant time. We cycled for the day- EVERYWHERE. down to the windcombs, to the furthest beach to see the surfers, to the football stadium.

At nightime, we absolutely loved the pinxto bar hopping, the different foods were delicious. It was really exciting and different. there are fab bars to sit and people watch all over the old town in the evenings, and there is a brill outside bar next to la perla and a brilliant nightclub to party until the small hours if you'd like. As I aid there really is something here for everybody.

I would highly recommend going to the La Perla spa for a couple of hours.. we are still talking about it (my boyfriend isnt really into that kind of thing- but he actually LOVED it- it was amazing). The shopping is fab, zara, h&m, beautiful quaint boutiques... THE BAKERIES are to die for!!!

San Sebastian is a chic, elegant, cultural town/ city- it is a must to visit. NH Aranzazu, really was the perect place to stay.

The staff even posted my postcards for me(I left them money for stamps and they went and got them and posted them, very kind).

NH is a solid business travelers hotel chain that we have used whenever possible and have been pleased. This Donastia location is particularly good because it is in an upscale residential neighborhood with good restaurants across the street--and walking distance to the old town and all the tourist activities. Again, walking three miles a day really helps keeping up with the calories involved in a serious study of the pinxcho culture in Basque country. Why need more restaurants? Inexpensive cafe con leche and tortilla for breakfast instead of the hotel buffet and after a big afternoon of studying in the old town and a nap, it's good to wake up about 9 PM and go across the street for a snack or light dinner.

I stayed here for three nights while attending the San Sebastian Film Festival. I checked-in extremely early but the receptionist was happy to let me have my room which is always welcome. The room was excellent, very comfortable, all amenities and a great bathroom. Air conditioning worked well too. The breakfasts were great with decent times well into the morning to eat. The Hotel is about a 30-40 minute walk to the Old Town but there's plenty of buses and it is a great walk along the beachfront. Nothing seemed too much trouble during my stay here and I would highly recommend.

After having stayed in a NH hotel in Frankfurt it was a great surprise to find that this one was really nice and the rooms were not so much like a travel-lodge offering. Staff were really helpful and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The hotel has secure parking and is a 5 minute walk to the beach. We had dinner there which was excellent value. Although the brochure in the room said wi-fi was chargeable if you speak to reception they will give you logon details for free.
