We stayed twice at the Silken Amara Plaza in July, eight days total. We had a positive experience and would stay there again.
The property is fairly new and generally well maintained.
We loved the location, a nice neighborhood a 20-minute walk to the old quarter and next to the bus station, where you can catch a bus to Bilbao or Pamplona, which we did. I understand that some fellow travelers may not like to walk or may not like having buses next door.
All personnel with whom we interacted were friendly and helpful.
We had breakfast only one day, preferring to indulge on local pintxos. It cost EUR 18 and was in line with other hotels of the same category, not the best and not the worst. It had some local specialties that were quite good.
The room was quite comfortable, with a very decent bathroom, comfortable bed, and great bedding. Again, in line with other properties of the same category.
Our only restriction was the free internet. Speeds were nearly dial-up and so slow that most of the time we preferred to use our cell phone’s 3G network. I really don’t understand why so many decent hotels have poor internet connections in this day and age. If for some reason you need higher speeds, forget Amara Plaza.
Had it not been the internet, we would have awarded a five-start review to this hotel, which is otherwise great.
