“Nice Hotel but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

Super location by the river and easy to get to old town.
Very helpful front desk.
Spacious rooms
On one side of the hotel the rooms face city bus parking lot, 10 to 15 buses there idling all day till 2AM and then beginning at 5AM - arc lights shine all night.
On the picture above, the left side of the high rise hotel.
Room shades do not block out the outside lights.
Bath floor was not well cleaned - brown dirt tracked.
Shower temperature varied from hot to cold for 15 seconds to 45 seconds at a time.
We were told that the A/C was turned off in the hotel. Only heat. This was October 1 and 2.
Temperature outside was from 15 to 25 (60 to 80).
How does one cool the room with the buses outside, running their diesel engines all day and most of the night.
Very slow free internet - but the hotel does give the option to buy faster.

Room Tip: Check the room and out the window - be sure you are not facing the bus terminal.

The hotel is located a brisk 20minute walk from the beach and city centre, there is bus for those who don't want to walk. The hotel is situated on top of the central bus station which is noisy all day and thoughout the night. The hotel rooms themselves are a decent size but make sure you ask for a room which has been recently updated, its quite dated otherwise. This is a large hotel with lots of traffic so it's not for those looking for a slower pace. The staff were a mixture of both helpful and really rude it just depends on who you get. We had issues with our room but when asked for them to be fixed or changed this was done with minimal fuss on the downside Our room did smelled like smoke though which wasn't very nice.

All of the hotels near La Concha seemed way overpriced or rundown. We decided to stay at Hotel Amara and couldn't have been happier. It was a great price and we even got a rebate by booking through the Entertainment Book website. There was a bus that took us from the airport to the hotel (about 6 stops). La Concha and the Old Quarter was a 15 minute walk from the hotel. It never seemed that long because there was so much beauty to look at. After walking back to the hotel one afternoon we came across the most amazing market about 3 blocks . It had produce, meat, cheese, bread....everything we were looking for. Total bonus!!
I definitely would recommend ths hotel to couples and families.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor in the room at the end of the hall. We had a view of the fountain and cou...

Weekend break on way from France to Santander, in September. Can't wait to visit again. Hotel clean, modern and rooms really spacious. Situated 15 min walk to beach and centre, where you will find the best tapas bars in Spain. Staff really helpful and we weren't bothered by any road noise as rooms are well insulated. Car park hard to find initially,so pull up outside and ask for direction. We didn't dine in the restaurant as the tapas experience in the evenings is fantastic, but breakfast was great with a large self serve buffet which catered for everyone. I'm gluten free and they had a nice range of bread & cakes with fruit, yoghurt etc while my husband enjoyed the eggs, bacon and toms. Will definately return.

Room Tip: Road and bus station around this hotel but insulation really good, so all rooms similar.

I travelled from Bilbao airport with Pesa Bus to Donostia (San Sebastian) which cost around Euro 16 and 1 hour 20 mins that brings you directly next to the hotel. I was initially given a room on the 6th floor which faces the bus stop it was too noisy and I requested for a change which they then put me to a room in the 8th floor away from the bus stop immediately. The room is very small and there is no coffee/tea making facilities. However, there are complimentary Nespresso machines, tea and pastries near the lift lobby on the 8th floor (it is a very nice touch). Bathroom is fine with nice toiletries but some signs of mold on the side of the shower. Beds and pillows are very comfortable and air-con works and it is quiet too. There is a good selection for breakfast and they even offer wine which is cool and the serving time is from 7 till 11am. Nice if you intend to sleep till later morning. The hotel is located approximately 20 mins walk from the Old Town but if you walk along the river it is actually very pleasant. Although that might be a bit too hot if you are travelling at the heart of Summer. Otherwise take the bus it is just right next to your hotel. We didn't eat in the hotel as we enjoyed Pintxos places in the Old Town! I will put a separate reviews on the restaurant in my tripadvisor comments if you wish to find out more!

Room Tip: Request for a room that is located on the higher floor and not facing the bus stop.

Stayed here for a week in September . A very good hotel made even better by the hard-working and obliging staff. We had decided not to use a car this holiday so the hotel's situation next to the bus station and just down the road from the rail way was a major reason for us choosing it. You can purchase cards for the local bus at reception .If you are touring by car the hotel does have its own underground parking at about 16 euros a night,The room on the 8th. floor had one of the best (and biggest !) beds we had slept on . and the bathroom was comprehensively stocked . Most Spanish hotels do-not offer tea making facilities and this is no exception . However there are Nexpresso machines on the floors with the Club rooms. in the corridors which are stocked with mini Danish pastries around 5 o'clock each day .! If you can get a club room for a similar cost as the basic room or a bit extra you will have bathrobes and laundry facilities thrown in .The buffet breakfast is extensive featuring everything from champagne to assorted meats. fresh fruit and juice .through to sausages eggs and bacon, We certainly did not want to eat until evening time after this .It takes 15 mins. to walk into the centre though the frequent 26 an 28 bus service is there if you prefer.

Room Tip: The higher the better!

chose this hotel as it was a last minute decision to stay one night in San Sebastian whilst on holiday for a week in Bilbao...most were v.expensive or fully booked, turned out to be a good choice.15 min walk to centre town along pretty boulevards with some great bars and cafes on the way.Bus stance is next door to hotel so no time wasted getting off bus, booked in and off out to explore...was along the beach and up the funicular railway within hour and half of arriving to check out the beautiful bay views. No noise from buses at all and room had great views over the river.Rooms good size, bed (double) v.comfy and bathroom gorgeous.Bar is lovely and we had our quick breakfast in the cafe area, fab value toast, juice, coffee and out to explore again.Had full day out and bus back to Bilbao every 30 mins so no time wasted with taxis to a bus terminus

Room Tip: we were on 7th floor,great views,no noise,decent sized rooms,great bathroom
