“fab hotel,great price and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

chose this hotel as it was a last minute decision to stay one night in San Sebastian whilst on holiday for a week in Bilbao...most were v.expensive or fully booked, turned out to be a good choice.15 min walk to centre town along pretty boulevards with some great bars and cafes on the way.Bus stance is next door to hotel so no time wasted getting off bus, booked in and off out to explore...was along the beach and up the funicular railway within hour and half of arriving to check out the beautiful bay views. No noise from buses at all and room had great views over the river.Rooms good size, bed (double) v.comfy and bathroom gorgeous.Bar is lovely and we had our quick breakfast in the cafe area, fab value toast, juice, coffee and out to explore again.Had full day out and bus back to Bilbao every 30 mins so no time wasted with taxis to a bus terminus

Room Tip: we were on 7th floor,great views,no noise,decent sized rooms,great bathroom

Came to San Sebastian with wife to visit her family. Nice hotel on the outskirts of city center - a mere 15-20 min walk or a 5 Euro cab ride takes you to the heart of San Sebastian. Rooms are large and comfortable (by Europe standards), clean and quiet. Hallways are dimly lit ("mood" lighting?) but having morning coffee and evening snacks out in the hallway was a nice feature. The facilities are excellent - the main floor restaurant is tastefully decorated and the food was excellent. Likewise, the 1st flr buffet for breakfast is extensive, with several large table's worth of morning fare - all for 16Euro (plenty to eat for a big breakfast person!). White tablecloths, linen napkins, etc. Hotel amenities were very nice - right up to the personal bath soaps, shampoos, etc.

Parking is available (16 Euro/day), but only in a parking garage immediately next to the hotel. Obtain parking card from reception and use to get access to underground lot. Can take elevator from parking garage straight up to your hotel room - convenient when transporting suitcases or people! Validate parking card on way out so can use when exiting garage in car.

Would stay here again, even with the short distance to city center. San Sebastian is a wonderfully beautiful Basque (the language is totally different!) coastal town, with cafes, restaurants (La Muralla in the city was great! See my Tripadvisor review on this restaurant), beaches, architectural wonders and beautiful landscapes. Would definitely go back to this part of Spain.

This hotel is so quiet. We were on 7th floor. There was a wedding on in the hotel which was extremely loud on check in but once we got to our room, Didn't hear a thing and slept solidly. It's right next to busy roundabout and bus station which our window faced and we STILL didn't hear any noise with window shut. The beds and pillows r so comfortable. It's very clean.
Breakfast is brilliant. Cereal, fruit, coffee nespresso and different teas, toast, croissants, sliced meats, cake etc etc. couldn't ask for more and all fresh.
A negative for some is it's a 10 min walk to old town but we liked that. After all the wine/tapas we needed a walk.
Free wi-fi.
Modern rooms.
No English on tv.
Oddly the drain took awhile in the shower so shower fast.

Room Tip: Keep your window closed and choose the highest floor u can

I cannot praise this hotel enough. It is one the best hotels we have stayed in. The room was comfy and clean and you do not hear the bus station outside. However if you come by car you have really no option other than to pay for your parking just outside the hotel and this cost us 16 Euros or about £13 a night. We found San Sabastian as a town, certainly not car friendly!

We certainly were not complaining as the car was safe and we had a fabulous breakfast in the morning, better than any of the numerous other hotels we stayed at during our 14 day visit to northern Spain and many locations in France. We walked into the old town and back with no problem...it would have been a problem if we took the car! If you are going to France, fill up in Spain first as we found the fuel cheaper there!

We stayed for four nights at the Silken Amara Plaza and found pretty well everything much to our liking. Our room was on the eighth floor with quite an impressive view up the river (especially in evening light). Although the hotel is next to the bus station, there was no intrusive noise with the window shut. We were especially impressed with the breakfast (we paid an inclusive rate) and with the dazzling box of toiletries displayed in the en-suite. Two "minuses" from us: firstly, although the wi-fi is free, it is necessary to enter two eight character codes each time you want to use it (a big rigmarole and I frequently managed to mangle one or other of the codes, sending me back to square one.) And secondly, in the evening the hotel offers nothing to eat between the extremes of three course set menus or very light snacks. On our final day, we'd eaten a splendid lunch at "La Fabrica" in the old town but had then been caught in very heavy rain. We had no option but to head back into the old town (rain still pouring down!) for yet another round of pintxos! Fortunately there is a very convenient and frequent bus service from just over the road from the hotel.

Pros
Modern fit out, friendly, helpful, staff. Lovely restaurant and bar.
Free Wi-Fi.

Cons
Quite far out of the old town (25 minute walk) in a more run down part of town.
Quite small room.

Still highly recommended.

Hotel itself is nice. The "suite" which contains an extra pull out bed is a bit cramped but clean and in good condition. Great staff/service from the reception to the bar. Location is OK... it's a 10-15 minute walk into city centre and the old town which we didn't mind at all. Only issue for us was noise....we were on a relatively high floor in the building but overlooking the bus station. We heard buses go in and out quite late into the evening (there are large groups of people getting on overnight buses near midnight) then again early in the morning. This is NOT a quiet location if noise is an issue for you.
