“Centrally located, comfortable and modern room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

This pension is located centrally in the Parte Vieja, adjacent to all the bars and nightlife of old town San Sebastian and only about a ten minute walk to the beach. Pension Iturriza is located on the third floor of a building and the staircase leading up to it is rather dark and nondescript. There is no elevator for those with heavy or large amounts of luggage. It appears to have been remodeled recently with new bathroom fixtures and modern interior features and I appreciated the firm bed. The proprietor is a friendly surfer-type who is not always present so you must call his cell phone (his number is posted on the wall) if you need to check out. My room faced a small courtyard with a cooking/eating club on the ground floor. Although the noise from the eating club was rather noticeable on the weekend, I was able to spend two comfortable nights at this establishment.

First of all, Ibon is the man. Ignore his surfer dude tapas recommendations at your peril. We stayed during the Aug 31st celebrations and the boat race, which were pretty crazy nights all round. The city gets very noisy in the old town, so this pension is perfect being just off the main drag. Also, if you're lucky enough to get a room facing the street, leave your windows open on a Monday night to listen to the local gastronomy club singing together.

Room Tip: Ask for a street facing room if possible.

Stayed a few nights in late May2012. The place is really central, modern, but in an old building, and close to the water. Yet it is very quiet and the rooms have great curtains to keep the sun out for when you want to sleep in after a late night out enjoying the Spanish nightlife. The owner is passionate about Pinxtos (tapas) and provides heap of advice on good places to try from a local perspective. Everyone he suggested was superb. We'd stay again.

Lovely modern rooms which represented really good value. Fantastic location in the heart of the old town. Just be prepared to have a sleepless night on a Saturday night depending on what room you get, we had a lot of street noise which made it hard to sleep.

Could not have a better location of the beach and old town for pinchos! Great help from the owner too with food recommendations. Rooms are small but clean. Would have liked coffee in the room. Would stay here again. Ta Ibon.

It was exactly as described on the website. The room we had was quite large and comfortable but the bathroom was a bit tight. Ibon was very helpful. As previously mentioned the location was really great and we ate really well at places recommended by Ibon. It was probably off-season but we thought it was very reasonably priced. There was some noise from people in the small foyer as people came in at night. As it was the middle of winter we had the windows closed and had no noise from the light well.

Iturriza is located right on the edge of the old town and a block away from the water. the Playa de la Concha is a 5 minute walk. All the great tapas bars and restaurants of Old Town are just around the corner. Ibon, the owner, spoke english and was very friendly and helpful. On our arrival he spent a great deal of time going over a list of recommended tapas bars and restaurants in the city. He and his wife have also put a great deal of time and effort in the details of this new pension. it is a modern pension within an old building. Per previous reviews, the building entry and stairs is totally misleading (the building's entry lobby and stairs are drab and rundown) as the pension is a beautiful modern space that has been put together with great thought to detail. Beyond the great food recommendations, Ibon went out of his way to make sure are needs were met, even to the point that he gave my wife his umbrella on a rainy day. The room and bathroom were nicely appointed, again the emphasis on attention to detail. Entering the pension on the 2nd floor, we loved the hotel's lobby with it's fiber optic lit ceiling, map of the city on the back wall and a blackboard column for notes and messages. Parking is not available on site but is easily available in the public parking garage a five minute walk from the hotel. Iturriza is a little gem of a pension that we would not hesitate to stay at again and we hope we do.
