“Lunch time heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

We were in San Sebastián during the day (next time night is a must!) and had been recommended this bar for pinxtos. It was empty when we arrived and no food out on the bar. If it had not been recommended by a friend who used to live in the area, I think we would have moved on. Thank heavens we did not! We sat at the bar and were given a menu (English available too) to order from. Everything was made to order and amazing. My husband loved the cider too! The place soon filled up so we were just early! Will definitely return asap.

“The best pintxos in San Sebastian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We were recommended to go here (by our Pension) and also read the reviews on TA (which I agree with completely). The bar was small and over spilling (even on a monday night), which just added to the atompshere. We stood by the wooden plank, which was fine. We ordered at the bar (beef cheek to start and some others that were being dished out to others, ravioli) and some rioja wines. We didn't know about the English menu until we left! We were amazed when the tiny dishes came, the kitchen server calls it out and then the bar hostess catches your eye and you collect it. Simple! We were overwhelmed by those dishes and our wine, so i stepped back to add to our order (open tab) and I chose something on the menu (which i was guessing at) and she recommended a prosciutto salad instead (I wasn't sure at first!). It was fabulous. Each time you order you get a refil of baguette (to mop up the sauce, which is delicious). It was an absolute Bargin, I wasn't sure how much I had heard, so passed 40 euros and she gave me the 20 back plus 2 euros! Best value of all. Nothing more to say apart from - GO!

“pinxtos refined”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

The quality of the pinxtos varies in the various bars in San Sebastian. But this is great! Pinxtos are not exhibited at the bar but can not be ordered from the menu. There is also an English menu. Service is good, friendly and fast. Pinxtos are incredibly nice, very finely prepared and varied, we kept ordering. Do not miss this, highly recommended.

“AMAZING PINTXOS!! Must go- here are my faves”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

So this place doesn't put out the pintxos you order at the bar - ask for an english menu or follow the heard and order what they do chances are it will be the following:
Carillera - Veal cheek in a red wine sauce. This is a must!!! 5 stars! They do run out of the veal cheek so make sure you dont leave to go to Borda Berri too late
Pork Rib Kebab - 5 Stars
Pikillo - red pepper with veal cheed and goat cheese - a BIG 5 Stars!!
Terrine plums - 4 stars - nothing special

We ate here a few times it was absolutely to die for - we also went to 3 michelin star restaurants and this was way up there in terms of quality and budget friendly.

“Best Tapas in San Sebastian!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Being a tourist freindly bar, by having an English menu and English speaking bartenders, makes this bar stand out of all the others in the old city. At least thats the first impression you get.
Once the food starts coming, you clearly see you've died and gone to heaven, a beef cheek heaven.
I orderd almost every item on the menu. All were very good, some were excellent, but three were extraordinary - the beef cheek, the pork rib "kebab", and the beef cheek filled red pepper - DO NOT MISS OUT ON THOSE!
I came to barda berri after dinning in the three michelin stars resturant of arzak, which was an expirence of its own, and yet the elegantly simple food of that bar made it the best food i have tasted in san sebastin, no, In Spain.
