El Lagar on Zabeleta is a bit far away from the main action of the old town, but it's definitely worth the walk over. Plus, the alfresco dining is much more preferable on a summer evening. It's very popular and if you get in early for a pintxos (tapas), you can probably turn it into dinner, and try not to smugly smile at the people waiting for a coveted table!
We stayed with the limited but tasty range of pintxos - there was a fabulous pork belly dish, as well as a tripe (callos) dish, and the fried salted thin green chillies (pimientos) are so more-ish. The mains that later diners ordered looked and smelled incredible too.
Their wine menu is fantastic, with a good range pricewise. Definitely have a glass of the Predicador - the waiter heartily approved of our choice, and it was evident why!
