“Close, Traditional & Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We chose this hotel as it looked traditional and not a 'box'. Add to that a brilliant location and really friendly and helpful staff and you get a sense of what traditional, Basque, family hospitality is truly like... Excellent in its price range.

Although the staff was extremely polite and helpful we found the A/C in the rooms barely worked. There was a lot of room noise from adjacent rooms. The walls were very thin. It may seem quaint but your room keys are old skeleton keys on a large medallion. Not easy to carry in your pockets. I was traveling with my parents in two wheel chairs and this was not a wheel chair friendly hotel. May meet ADA but not by much. Would not stay here again.

We agree, not a five star, but a really good 4 star hotel. Got a fantastic deal on Hotwire. Be careful, as their address gives two different hotels, the Ericilla and the Ericilla Lopez de Haro. Our cab driver took us to the Ercilla first, then to the Lopez de Haro (their all part of the Ercilla chain). You couldn't ask for a better location, we walked everywhere! English speaking front desk...very helpful. Rooms were state of the art, and very quiet, modern decor. Air conditioning was very good. We had breakfast (not included) and dinner there and it was all tasty. Somewhat expensive food.

We were delighted with our stay at Lopez de Haro. Front desk staff, George, was outstanding. Décor was typically Spanish eclectic which seemed to fit in with theme of the Guggenheim. The location was excellent and leads directly to the river and a beautiful pedestrian suspension bridge. Restaurant staff was efficient, courteous but a little cool and perfunctory.

This was a very disappointing hotel and was really a 3 star with delusions of grandure. Like others we were looking for a bit of luxury and it was no better than a good 3 star. There was a hole in the ceiling and the shower was very poor albeit it had gadgets that did not work. The location was excellent but difficult to find.

Room Tip: we had a room looking on to a dirty courtyard.

Got a great deal on booking.com and were pleasantly surprised at the friendly service, serenity, cleanliness and boutique style black and white room! The hotel is in a great location - central to everything. It might not be a US 5 star hotel, but it's great value for what you get. We traveled with our 1 year old and were made to feel welcome and comfortable. Highly recommend!
