“Zaragoza is a quaint large city...and so is this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2014

The Hotel is a result of a remodeling of an older building. They have done a really good job in preserving the bones of this older building, and very tastefully added a very modern reception and restaurant.
The hotel is centrally located....a few minutes walk from any of the main attractions, restaurants and building.
We found the staff to be receptive to our needs...they were very attentive...and professional.
Its not noisy at all, since most of the rooms face a very quiet street.

Room Tip: most of the rooms are on the side street which is incredible quiet.

We booked into this hotel for both legs of our journey through Spain & we were so glad that we did as it was a very pleasant experience. The hotel is superbly positioned in the city & the view we had over the square was very nice. It can get a bit noisy as the locals know how to party into the wee hours, but it isn't as noisy as a lot of places that I've stayed in city centres.
The staff were really helpful & their English was of a very high standard, something that can be an issue in Spain for me.
The Breakfast was a very good spread & the staff were very quick to replenish anything that was getting low.
One of the other things that I loved about this hotel is the way the original apartment stairs have been kept allowing you a glimpse of what this very modern hotel must have been like years ago.
I recommend this hotel highly.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the square can be a bit louder than the others BUT the view is superb.

I spent two nights at the Catalonia El Pilar Hotel and I found it to be a great location to sightsee Zaragoza and a very comfortable place to relax between outings. The staff of the hotel are very friendly and they try to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. My room was larger than I have come to expect with Spanish hotels and the comfort level exceeded the price of the room by a great margin. My only complaint was with the spotty nature of the wifi, which had to be re established virtually every time I tried to check my email - they seriously need to update that if they want to become a first class international hotel.

We enjoyed staying here for our recent trip. It's a bit of a distance from the bus and train station, but there is a bus you can catch that takes you reasonably close to the hotel and then it's about a 10 minute walk.

The hotel overlooks a small square, which is very pleasant, although it was occupied by some street drinkers on a couple of the nights we were there. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and it's an easy walk to the main sights and shopping streets. The market is also close by and there are two supermarkets next to the market, which are also very useful.

The room was fine, a a reasonable size, with a nice bathroom. The wifi worked well. The hotel also had a gym, which we did use. It's a bit small, but has good aircon and free bottles of water. You need to get a separate key from reception to use it.

We didn't have breakfast - as usual, it's far too expensive in hotels and you can buy better for less at most cafes. The hotel was quiet enough, with no street noise. There's a good little cocktail bar across from the hotel that does really good mojitos too.

We stayed at this hotel only one night but would not hesitate to go back if we ever visit Zaragoza again. This hotel is in a historical building, close to all the places of interest. Although it was across from one of the main plazas, and our room faced the square, we did not hear any noise.
When we checked in, we were given a welcome drink voucher. This was a kind and special touch which we enjoyed.
The staff was very friendly and we were given names of restaurants where we could have great tapas. Everything was within walking distance from the hotel.

The best hotel value so far in 2 weeks. Very comfortable, good location in old town. Breakfast buffet was outstanding.

Parking tip!
GPS was actually accurate, but I hesitated going into what appeared to be, and is, a plaza! But go ahead, it is for driving. Make sure you are in far right lane.

You go around the hotel once, one way roads, and then can pull into side. Spot for unloading and check in.

Front desk could have been more clear on finding parking. Yes, it is "1st right, then right again..." But I almost went by it. Follow the big P sign, you park under the Plaza Pilar....same one you drove over to get to hotel if you came from downtown/ north direction.

Then getting out, they gave me a chit for discount...plus my pass... But did tell me the pass was paid at front desk and validated. Just insert and leave. Don't do what I did and called for attendant, causing line back up. Oooops. Sorry folks.

Another Tip. We used hotel and Zaragoza as one night stopover from north to south Spain. Mistake. Both hotel and old town are worth a few days, at least.
