So you came to Spain, Zaragoza, to check out el Pilar, and taste some great Spanish food. Yes, after some tapas and other deep fried selection you will want a healthier and tastier break in a few days.
Located close to Plaza San Francisco, it is an oasis for all of your senses.... and your wallet.
A clean (almost Canadian) interior with warm and helpful staff will put you at ease in front of a nicely balanced menu of choices. If you speak Spanish, do ask for staff suggestions: they are very helpful and some even speak English. If they tell you "that will be too much food", do listen, because vegetarian does not mean skimpy.
While the wine choices are very few (in Spain I would certainly expect more, especially around this amazing taste sensation of a menu) the food quality and taste are incredible. Made with fresh ingredients, many of which are local, the pieces of art that are offered to you are exquisit. Just because you may think you do not like egg-plant, you may be forced to reconsider.
Once you are on the edge of exploding after your main course, do force yourself to sample some of their deserts. In the end, it will round off your perfect evening, especially if you cap it off with a chupito (a little shot of liqueur) or a coffee.
And brace yourself: the bill will indeed come. But fear not: after a number of such flavorful encounters, my bill has always been just another pleasant and surprising addition to my dinner experience.
Highly recommended restaurant for a couple, romantic dinner, or a medium-noisy group of friends.
It is definitely top 3 for me in town (would be number 2 if I could bring my own bottle of wine!)
