“Top location, quiet, comfortable, unassuming and enjoyable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

We booked this hotel after a lot of thorough research on Tripadvisor and other trusted review sites. Our break was a four day one via ebookers using their app discount codes which saved 20% off the usual hotel price and we booked breakfast in a double superior room. When we arrived, we immediately found the staff to be as wonderful as previous reviewers said they were and were shown our room. Unfortunately, we discovered that there are two grades of superior double rooms, one with a lounge area and one without. We were given the latter. We were also right next to the lift shaft in room 15 (avoid) so insisted on being moved the following morning. This was done without fuss into a similar sized room above 25 but was much, much quieter.

The El Rey Moro isn't a 3 star hotel masquerading as anything other than what it is, a nice, comfortable boutique hotel tucked away in a quiet side street but only minutes away from the centre of Sevilla. For that purpose, it rates highly and I would thoroughly recommend it to you. The pleasantness of hotel staff can make or break a holiday and so we were very impressed with all the staff, particularly Aziz and Naome on the front desk who were always very polite and helpful.

The hotel offers clean, medium grade facilities to ensure a comfortable break and free mineral water which is a nice touch in the heat of Sevilla. They also offer free bicycle hire and a useable weighing scale for baggage which is essential for travellers arriving via budget airlines, so thumbs up on that front. Another bonus is a rooftop sunbathing area with a hot tub with views of the Cathedral.

If you are looking for five star luxury or plain, bog standard white or magnolia painted rooms, you will not find them here. What you will find however is a comfortable, clean hotel with helpful staff in a great location. The only criticism I have and this is really subjective (aside from the patchy wi-fi connection) was that the breakfast could have been a little better. By that, I mean that the breads and rolls and pastries were a little plain and the hot food, bacon, sausages and eggs could have been a little better prepared and available at all times, not just some times during the breakfast service. The bacon could have been smore crispy and the sausages more thoroughly cooked - but as I said, that is subjective. Also, I believe that breakfast should be available for early leavers like ourselves who had to catch an earlier flight from either 7am or 7:30am instead of 8:00am - and that coffee should be on tap via a machine or more staff be available than the one server whom you had to order individual cups of coffee from. As she was often busy doing other things, this meant less attentiveness towards guests' needs. Other than that, in all honesty, breakfast at the El Rey Moro is adequately average and fills a gap but it is not earth shatteringly brilliant when, with a few tweaks and an extra member of serving staff, it could be so much better. Having stayed in many European three star hotels and as a food writer, I speak with some degree of experience on the subject of breakfast offerings so honestly and impartially mark the El Rey Moro's breakfast as only 6/10.

To conclude, if you want a great stay in a comfortable hotel near all the action that won't break the bank then El Rey Moro will provide exactly that. I intend to visit Sevilla again because it was so beautiful and would not have any hesitation in rebooking with this lovely hotel again as the whole experience was generally very positive.

Room Tip: Avoid 15. It suffers from lift shaft noise

A hotel you will always remember--quirky, eclectic, charming and just what you would hope for in Spain. Down a winding alley, difficult to find, yet close to the center of the city (maybe 4 minutes) with great, clean, individually decorated rooms and modern baths. A central courtyard which passing tourists can't resist the temptation to slip into for some photos. The staff was great and very helpful. Restaurant put on a great breakfast and dinner (at least 10 others are within 3 minutes walk)--book online through their web site and you get free breakfast. I travel for a living and stay in hotels 80+ nights a year and the El Rey Moro will always be one of my favorites.

I was expecting a pleasant hotel and was treated to a real gem. I arrived very early, fully expecting to be told to come back later. Instead, my room was readied for me in less than 1/2 an hour. All the staff were helpful, professional and knowledgeable. The location is in the heart of the old quarter, within an easy walk to every site. Yet, it is so calm and quiet, you feel as though you are in the countryside. The free WiFi (no password to fiddle with) and cold bottled water were a nice surprise. All in all, I would say this is one of the best hotels I have found. It combines old world feel with modern conveniences.

Quiet location in the center of Barrio Santa Cruz. Center atrium offers a quiet refuge. Character rooms with small balcony, comfortable beds, soaking tub in the bath, and plenty of free bottled water. Excellent location within the heart of the old town portion of Seville, yet, quiet and comfortable. Restaurant on site. Secure with onsite reception 24 hrs. English speaking, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Difficult to find. Follow hotel directions carefully, small sign above entry.

My husband and I were recommended this hotel by a friend and we were not disappointed. It is located in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, tucked away down a little street. We arrived by train and took a bus from the train station (go out the doors and walk across the parking lot to get to the bus stop) to the old city. It was very well located to the cathedral, restaurants and to the sights. The hotel has a gorgeous patio with a water fountain and seating area.

Sevilla is a fantastic city! We took up the free walking tour offered by the hotel and were very happy with the service. They come and pick you up at the hotel and take you to a meeting point where you are then split into groups by languages of English, Spanish and French. We also took advantage of the free bikes at the hotel and took a ride down the river.

The room was beautifully decorated (we had the Junior Suite) and very clean and quiet. The roof was very nice in the evening with views of the top of the cathedral and the jacuzzi was wonderful after a day of taking in the sights. The buffet breakfast was very good.

I would definitely go back!

A WONDERFUL hotel situated in the heart of the Juderia within walking distance of everything you want to see in Seville. Situated on a pedestrianstreet no wider than your outstretched arms. Enter into the hotel into a magic open air courtyard with flowers, fountains and perfumed scents of Spain. Reception is great and helpful in every way. The rooms are equipped with everything including wifi. Rooftop sun terrace with a view. Excellent breakfast. Free tour of Seville. Bicycles free. Add the excitement in the city during "Semana Santa" and what more could you want at a very reasonable price.
